Cockman Application This procedure is used to determine the thickness of plastic sheeting and similar materials, from measurement of density and we

2、ight per square metre. Apparatus Required Analytical Balance Accuracy +/- 0.1 mg Specimen Cutter Size 1 O0 x 1 O0 mm. Distilled Water Containing trace of household type detergent. Sinker Fine Wire 0.1 mm diameter Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material

3、 conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 OC and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure A. - Determination of Weight per Square Metre (as per FLTM BN 106-01) 1. Cut three specimens 100

4、/- 0.1 x 100 +/- 0.1 mm from different areas of the sample using the specimen cutter. 2. Weigh the specimens separately and record the individual weights, to the nearest mg. 5、late the weight per square metre of each specimen as follows: Weight/Square Metre = NI in g/square metre A Where: W1 = Weight of specimen in air (9) A= Area of specimen (m2) Report the result as the average of the 3 values obtained. B. - Determination of Relative Density Using the specimens previous

6、ly weighed under Method A. 1. Weigh the specimens separately, completely immersed in the water at 23 +/-2 OC, suspending them by means of the fine wire, ensuring no bubbles remain on the surface of the specimen. 2. If the material is of lower density than water a sinker must be attached to the speci

7、men. 3. Determine the weight of the sinker in water and the weight of the sinker + specimen in water. 4. Calculate the relative density as follows: (a) Without sinker: Relative Density = W, w1 -w2 (b) With sinker: Relative Density = W1- w1+ w3-w4 Where: W1 = W2 = W3 = W4 = Weight of specimen in air
