SCOPE The materials defined by these specifications are solvent based stone peck protective baking primers for exterior automotive applications, applied in certain areas in addition to cu

3、rrent production primer surfacer. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for materials used as stone chip protection primer over primer surfacer on the lower body side to improve stone chip resistance. SK-M99J9587-D: This material is designed for baking together with primer sur

4、facer at 165 C. SK-M99J9587-E: This material is designed for baking together with low bake primer surfacer at 120 C. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and pa

5、rt producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.4 COMPOSITION 3.4.1 Resin: PU modified solvent borne synthetic resins. 3.4.2 Pigments: Pigments and fillers to obtain the desired color and resistance properties. 3.5 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.5.

6、1 Non-volatile See Initial Sample (FLTM BI 102-01) +/- 2%; minimum 55% The non-volatile content shall be determined at a spray viscosity of 35 s according to para 3.5.4. 3.5.2 Density See Initial Sample (ASTM D 1475) +/- 0.02 g/mL 3.5.3 Viscosity as Supplied See Initial Sample +/- 5 s (FLTM BI 111-0

8、 days During a storage between 5 and 32 C temperature the material as supplied shall not settle up or cake insoluble. After the storage the material must pass all specification requirements. 3.6 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS (FLTM BI 103-02, Method B,b) 3.6.1 Substrates as specified on Engineering draw

9、ing. - Standard Steel Panels - Precoated Steel Panels as used in the plant All substrates shall be zinc phosphated and conform to the requirements of WSK-M3P1-C. 3.6.2 Cathodic Electrocoat Ford Engineering approved current production electrocoat primer, application and film thickness as specified in

10、 the relevant material specification. 3.6.3 Stone Chip Primer Dry film thickness 50 - 55 micrometre Flash off time 1 minute 3.6.3.1 SK-M99J9587-D Wet on wet application of Ford Engineering approved current production primer surfacer, film thickness as specified in the relevant material specification

Baking 5 minutes at 165 C (Metal Temperature) 5 minutes at 190 C 3.6.3.2 SK-M99J9587-E Wet on wet application of Ford Engineering approved current production low bake primer surfacer, film thickness as specified in the relevant material specification. Baking 5 minutes at 120 C (Metal Temperature)

12、5 minutes at 140 C 3.6.4 Top Coat Application of current approved top coat, film thickness and baking as specified in the relevant material specification. 13、Ageing Test panels prepared under this specification shall be aged for at least 72 hours at 23 +/- 2 C or 16 hours at 45 +/- 1 C before testing for resistance properties. 3.7 APPEARANCE (Primer only) 3.7.1 Color Light grey 3.7.2 Gloss Matt to semi-gloss 3.7.3 Leveling The surface of the stone chip p

14、rimer shall be smooth without structure and only little orange peel when applied in a dry film thickness of 60 micrometre. 3.7.4 Holdout No evidence of dulling, no craters or pinholes and no change in image clarity when enamel color coat is applied over unsanded primer. 3.8 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES Tes

15、t panels and painted parts prepared according to para 3.6 of this specification shall meet all requirements of performance specification WSK-M2P136-A with the deviations per 3.8.1 and 3.8.2. 3.8.1 Stone Chip Resistance, max Rating 2 (FLTM BI 157-04) 3.8.2 Environmental Cycling 3 cycles (FLTM BQ 104-

16、07, Procedure I) Evaluation after 3 hours conditioning at 21 - 25 C. No cracks, no blistering, no change in appearance or any other failure caused by the stone chip primer. 3.9 QUALITY The primer must be adaptable for application in accordance with appropriate Ford Motor Company Process Specificatio

17、n U-C800. The primer must be compatible with all related materials e.g., sealers, adhesives, electrocoat primers, primer surfacer and topcoat materials. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of these specifications

18、. 5.1 DENSITY OF THE DRY FILM See Initial Sample (FLTM BI 154-02) +/- 0.02 kg/L 5.2 MATERIAL REFERENCE All related materials and processes used for approval of primer according to these specifications, e.g. substrate, primer and topcoat as well as the application parameter shall be noted in the Initial Sample Report of the primer.
