Slight deviations in the eye contour are permissible but the eye must be as round as possiblewith no sharp tool marks a
3、t the junction of the eye and shank.2.2 POINTS. The ends of the pins must not be open. Any gap between the prongs along the shank ofthe pin must not exceed 0.4mm.2.3 LENGTH. The length of the pin, L, shall be measured from the plane of contact of a ring gaugewith the cotter pin eye to the end of the
4、 short prong (See Figure 1).The pin shall be inserted into the gauge with the fingers.Figure 1.3. MATERIAL.Steel to WSD-M1A283-B1 to B4 inclusive. Parts must be received by Ford in the annealed condition.4. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES.Clamp the split cotter pin with the eye and one half the nominal length o
5、f the pin engaged. Bend the freeend of one leg through 90 o once more and re-straighten. (For pins of 5mm in diameter or less repeat thisoperation). Then bend through 90 o again and view at a magnification of 10 X. There must be noevidence of fracture or cracking.5. DEFECTS.The pins shall be free from burrs, loose scale, sharp edges and all other defects which might affectinstallation or serviceability.NOTE: For application and design data, see Appendix WH 900.
