SCOPE This specification defines the adhesion requirements for an adhesive or an adhesive system suitable for structur ally bonding FRP/FRP and FRP/painted metal assemblies. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released original

3、ly for adhesives used to structurally bond glass fiber reinforced polyester (FRP) and painted metal reinforcements. These adhesion requirements cover assemblies consisting of FRP to FRP and FRP to painted metal substrates. Adhesives meeting these requirements can be applied on body components assemb

4、led after vehicle electrocoat. This specification does not describe initial adhesive cure conditi ons. The procedures for assembly bonding shall be prescribed in accordance to adhesive manufacturer and part supplier recommendations. Compliance with this performance specification does not guarantee t

5、he structural adhesive will function for all potentia l applications on a vehicle. The specific design condition should be evaluated by a plant trial or laboratory simulation prior to release of the material. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESS Suppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford

6、Qualit y System Standard Q - 101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as described therein is required for material/source approval. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data so that variation in the final product is continuously r educed. 3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMET

7、RY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS Ford Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/or thermal analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification. The IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approv al shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the desig

8、nated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when tested under the same conditions. 9、based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless othe rwise specified. 3.4 SHEAR ADHESION STRENGTH - FRP TO FRP Minimum load specified AND FRP TO PAINTED METAL

10、 or fiber tear (ASTM D 3163, 12.7 mm/min crosshead speed, 0.76 mm bondline thickness, 6.5 cm2 bond area, substrates per para 5.1. 5 samples m inimum per test condition, see Figure 1 for sample illustration) Normal, min (Cure assemblies according to suppliers recommendation. 14、para 3.4, apply a 4.5 kg dead weight load to test samples and expose to 177 +/ - 2 C for 30 minutes) 3.6 COLD SLAM RESISTANCE No cracking, adhesive or (FLTM BV 101 - 02, 10 cycles of 6 slams cohesive failure per cycle at - 30 +/ - 1 C. See figure 2) Test Method: . Prepare three 100 x 250 mm test ass

15、emblies for each substrate combination; one set consisting of FRP to FRP and the other FRP to painted metal. The test assemblies shall be bonded or mechanically attached to a 300 x 300 mm FRP base panel. Substrates are identified in para 5.1. . Expose bonded assemblies to each post bake condition li

16、sted in para 5.2. . Condition test assemblies after post bake at 23 +/ - 2 C for 4 h minimu m. . Conduct test as outlined per FLTM BV 101 - 02 following steps 9, 10, and 11. Position panel in slam fixture with reinforcement facing inward. Subject each test assembly to 10 cycles of 6 slams per cycle

17、at - 30 +/ - 1 C. 3.7 FUNCTIONAL APPROVAL Mat erials being evaluated for approval to this specification shall be subjected to a production trial. Functional trial results must be approved by the affected assembly operation and Design Engineering. Results shall be made available to Materials Engineer

18、 ing prior to material approval and release. 3.8 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any change in th e properties, composition, construction, color

19、, processing or labeling of the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology and the affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed cha

20、nges and obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification are to be submitted with the reque st. 21、o the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are defined in Engineering Material Specification WSS - M99P9999 - A1, unless a different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specifi ed on the engineering document for the application. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specificati

22、on must have prior approval by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first o btain an expression of interest from the affected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit to the affected

23、 Materials Engineering activity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification (test results, not nominal values), the material designation and

24、code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation . In addition to meeting the requirements of this specification, the materials will be assessed for suitability for intended applications as part of the approval process. Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering Material Approve

25、d Sour ce List. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 SUBSTRATES 5.1.1 Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP) as specified by Body and Chassis Engi neering Office Nominal 2.5 mm thickness - surf

26、ace prepared in accordance to adhesives suppliers recommendation. 5.1.2 Painted Metal Panel Painted metal substrates as identified by Body Engineering Materials office.
