SCOPE The materials defined by these specifications are nodular graphite irons, with a pearlitic or acic

3、ular (martensitic and lower bainitic transformation products) matrix. Cast statically: single/twins, or centrifugally. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for materials used in the production of piston rings. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS

4、 Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION (weight %, ladle analysis) Carbon (total) 2.5 - 4.1 Phosphorus 0.5 max Manganese 1.0 max Nickel 2.0 max Sulphur 0.05 max Silicon - adjusted to

5、 suit the casting method, extreme ranges A1 = 3.5 - 5.5 %, A2 = 2.0 - 3.4 %. Chromium and Molybdenum can be added to a maximum of 1.0 % of each element, Vanadium 0.5 % maximum and Copper 1.5 % maximum. Carbon equivalent and alloying elements shall be controlled within the above range to accommodate

6、the ring section, size and method of casting (static/centrifugal are acceptable). The anticipated working range for each component shall be restricted to a limited band within the above. 7、3 HARDNESS A1 220 - 322 HB 18 - 34.5 HRC 97 - 110 HRB A2 250 - 430 HB 25 - 43 HRC 100 - 112 HRB The hardness shall be restricted to a limited band within the above range as part of the Control Plan. An average of three results taken (1) adjacent to the gap, (2) 90 to the gap and (3) opposite the gap

8、. Any other position will be within 10 HB points, 2 Rockwell C or B points. In cases of dispute, the umpire test method will be HB. 3.4 MICROSTRUCTURE A1 Graphite - uniformly distributed nodules ASTM A 247, form I and II, 90 % minimum. Matrix - Predominantly ferrite, with fine lamellar pearlite up t

9、o a maximum of 40 % by area. Complex alloy carbides if present shall be as small isolated particles to a maximum of 5 % by area. A2 Graphite - as A1.
