、e performance requirements for sewing threads. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used in sewing operations in the manufacture of seat covers, trim assemblies and/or as specified on the Engineering Drawings. 3. REQUIREMENTS All requirements and tests quoted in thi
、s specification are mandatory for each thread, unless other specific values are expressly stipulated in the individual Material Specification. 3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESS Suppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality System Standard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as described the
、rein is required for material/source approval. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyze process/product data so that variation in the final product is continuously reduced. 3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS Ford Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and
、/or thermal analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification. The IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermograms that co
、rrespond to the reference standard when tested under the same conditions. 3.3 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONS All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5% relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and teste
、d under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSD-M8P5-B Page 2 of 4 3.4 APPEARANCE (FLTM BI 109-01) The color, pattern, and finish shall match the approved Design Center master sample, or shall be as specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.5 BALANCE Take
、 a one meter length of sewing thread drawn freely from the side of the spool (without undue tension and without passing it through any restriction such as fingers, etc.) and bring the thread together to form a free hanging loop. In this position, the thread must not twist upon itself more than twice
、. 3.6 TENSILE STRENGTH AFTER AGING (FLTM BN 117-01,Method A/ASTM D 204) 3.6.1 After Heat Age, min retained 70% (21 days at 100 +/- 2 C) 3.6.2 After Ultraviolet, min retained 70% (SAE J1885, 75.2 kJ) 3.7 RESISTANCE TO FADE (SAE J1885, AATCC Evaluation Procedure I) 37.6 kJ Rating 4.0 The thread shall
、show no fading in excess of the above rating when compared with the AATCC Gray Scale. It shall further show no change in color tone, gloss, or evidence of spotting and it shall be equal to or better than the Master Sample approved by the Materials Engineering Activity. 3.8 RESISTANCE TO CROCKING (FL
、TM BN 107-01) Dry Rating 5.0 Wet Rating 4.0 3.9 RESISTANCE TO PERSPIRATION Rating 5.0 (FLTM AN 101-01) 3.10 RESISTANCE TO WATER Rating 5.0 (FLTM AN 101-01) ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSD-M8P5-B Page 3 of 4 3.11 SEWING TEST After the thread has been tested per the requirements stated above, i
、t shall be assessed by a sewing test conducted under normal production conditions. The thread must process under production conditions without any reservations and meet the sewn seam requirements of the cover material specifications. Suppliers deliveries can be rejected because of excessive rates of
、 breakage and/or other manufacturing difficulties (knots, foreign matter, etc.). In addition, after sewing, the thread shall not exhibit objectionable streaks or any change in hue or purity of color. 3.12 NUMBER OF KNOTS The thread spool shall be free from all imperfections of such character which w
、ould cause the thread to break during sewing. 3.13 IDENTIFICATION Each spool of thread must bear the name of the manufacturer as well as the Specification Number, color suffix, yarn size and the number of meters. 3.14 PACKING The material must be packed in such a way that in transit no slippage of t
、he thread layers or any other damage occurs. 3.15 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specific requirements for material and/or manufactured parts shall be specified on the Engineering drawing, Engineering parts specification and/or performance specifications. All critical areas with respect to these properties
、 shall be clearly designated on the engineering drawing. 3.16 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any change in the properties, composition, constru
、ction, color, processing or labeling of the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology and the affected Materials Engineering activity of the
、proposed changes and obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification are to be submitted with the request. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSD-M8P5-B Page 4 of 4 Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, ap

The restrictions are defined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1, unless a different suffix (e.g. A2 or A3) is specified on the engineering document for the application. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specificatio
、n must have prior approval by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from the affected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit to the affected M
、aterials Engineering activity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification (test results, not nominal values), the material designation and co
、de number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of a material will be based on its performance to this specification and on an assessment of suitability for intended processes and/or applications. Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
