8、NLINESS 3.8.1 Sampling A part shall be obtained from production forgings. A section shall be cut through the “nose“ region of the cam so that an area of 0.25 - 0.40 mm below the surface at 1.30 mm below the top and bottom shall be the area to be evaluated (See Figure 1). It is important that the inclusions not be pitted, drafted or obscured. Applicable sections of ASTM E 3 - “Preparation of Metallog
10、raphic Specimens“ and ASTM E 768 - “Preparation of Evaluating Specimens for Automatic Inclusion Assessment of Steel“ are recommended. The specimen shall be examined in the as-polished condition without etching. 3.8.3 Examination of Specimen Using an image analysis system and a software program for inclusion analysis, measure Area B. Magnification will be mutually agreed upon between producer and vendor and shall be with a magnification range of 100 X to 150 X. A minimum of 15 fields shall be examined. 3.8.4 Results The total porosity and non-metallic inclusions of Area B shall not exceed 2%.
