SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a high quality alloy treated grey iron produced by the electric furnace and cast as individual castings. 2. APPLICATION This specific

3、ation was released originally for material used in the manufacture of hardenable alloy iron tappet bodies. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P111

4、1-A). 3.2 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION (LADLE) (Weight Percent) Total Carbon 2.80 - 3.40 Silicon 1.90 - 2.50 Manganese 0.70 - 1.00 Phosphorus 0.20 max Sulphur 0.10 max Molybdenum 0.40 - 0.80 Nickel 0.40 - 0.70 Chromium 0.80 - 1.5 The specific analysis shall be controlled within the above range and will vary

5、 based on section size and foundry practice to achieve the required properties. The ladle analysis and foundry process route will form part of the control plan. 6、) HRC 55 min, or as specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.4 MICROSTRUCTURE The heat treatment shall be conducted in such a manner to avoid excessive solution of carbide and subsequent formation of retained austenite. The microstructure shall consist of acicular and cellular carbides and graphite f

7、lakes in a matrix of tempered martensite. The graphite shall consist of Form VII flake graphite, types A and E with type A desired. The flake size shall be ASTM size 5 or finer. The desired carbide levels are 15 to 25% but with minimum acceptable levels as follows: In the case of circular tappets, t

8、he contact face should be viewed in two areas; a) At the centre where the minimum acceptable level of carbide shall be 5 %. b) At the mid radius where the minimum acceptable level of carbide shall be 10 %. In the case of follower type rocker arms, the contact face should be viewed along the centre l

9、ine where the minimum acceptable level of carbide shall be 5 %. The carbide content may be assessed by reference to appropriate photomicrographs (see WSD-M99A4-A) or by quantitative methods (ASTM E 562 or approved image analysis technique). In cases of dispute, the quantitative metallurgical method will be the umpire method.
