SCOPE This specification defines performance requirements of adhesive foam tapes used for exterior automotive appli
3、cations. The tapes have two sides with two side pressure sensitive adhesive and are protected by either release paper or polymer liner. The tapes may be used in combination with a suitable primer which would be specified separately on the Engineering drawing. 2. APPLICATION This specification was re
4、leased originally to define adhesion performance requirements for exterior automotive emblem application. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to t
5、he Companys Quality System Requirements. 3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra an

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSK-M11P51-A Page 2 of 6 Copyright 2008, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.4 PREPARATION OF TEST SPECIMENS Test specimens shall be prepared from production emblems and painted steel panels
8、, prepared according to FLTM-BI 103-02, method B/2, using current approved production paint materials. If emblems are too small, test panels from original substrate may be used instead. The surface to be bonded shall be cleaned with isopropanol/water (1:1) and dry wiped prior to applying the tape. T
9、he tape shall be applied to the emblems sample surface with the liner intact. Test specimens shall be aged for 72 h at room temperature prior to testing unless otherwise specified. Usage of a primer shall be noted in the Initial Sample Report. 3.5 AGING CONDITIONS Expose test specimens per 3.4 to ea

Initial approvals will be based on accelerated weathering results, pending Florida results for final approval. Note: In case of differences between the results of Florida exposure and accelerated weathering
14、, the Florida results shall take precedence. 3.6 ADHESION Adhesion shall be tested after aging per para 3.5. Tests shall be performed within 5 minutes after end of the exposure (except 3.5.8). Report type of failure (cohesive/adhesive failure of the tape as well as substrate failure) in the Initial

27、 SPECIFICATION WSK-M11P51-A Page 6 of 6 Copyright 2008, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification for direct supply to the Company must have prior approval. Certain materials subcontracted by part suppliers may also require prior approval. These
28、include materials critical to the Companys business for regulatory, safety, environmental or compatibility requirements or contractual agreements. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from Purchasing, Design or Materials Engineering activity. Up
29、on request, the Supplier shall submit a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is prov
30、ided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MOUNTING . Only apply tape to absolutely clean and dry surface. . Mating surface should be matched (contoured or parallel) to ensure 100 % contact of the bond area. . Once tape is applied
31、 to part and has been bonded and for any reason removed, it shall not be reused. . If the adhesive surface of the tape becomes soiled, the tape-backed part shall not be used unless tape is replaced. . The adhesive side of the tape shall not be touched or handled once the release liner has been removed.
