2、4 PAINT, ENGINE, AIR DRYING WSK-M1J206-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an air drying finish suitable for exterior exposure. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used for coating engine and engine components. The
3、 material shall be suitable for pneumatic, airless and/or electrostatic spray application. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 FLASH
4、POINT The flash point shall conform to the safety regulations applicable to the plant and/or country where the material shall be used. 3.3 COMPOSITION 3.3.1 Resin The vehicle shall be based on a suitable synthetic resin system to obtain the desired application and resistance properties. 3.3.2 Pigmen
5、t The pigment shall be balanced and blended so that the finished enamel meets the requirements of this specification. 3.3.3 Solvents Aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols as required to provide performance. 3.3.4 Specific Composition When it is necessary to obtain specific data regarding material form

7、 0.02 g/mL (ASTM D 1475) 3.4.3 Viscosity (FLTM BI 111-01, Ford Cup 4, 25 C) 3.4.3.1 Package Viscosity, min 20 s Production may require higher viscosities in order that required performance levels are maintained. Batch variations shall not exceed +/- 2 s Ford Cup 4 at 25 C of the viscosity authorized
8、 by the affected Manufacturing areas. 3.4.3.2 Test Viscosity Initial Samples and samples taken from production shipments must be tested at 20 s Ford Cup 4, 25 C and if in excess of this must be reduced to this viscosity. The supplier shall state and supply suitable solvent for this purpose when requ
9、ired. 3.4.4 Shelf Stability During a storage of three months at room temperature, the material as received shall not gel or liver upon standing and must be free from settling which cannot be dispersed by normal agitation. The viscosity of the material shall not increase in excess of 15 s Ford Cup 4,
10、 25 C when tested according to FLTM BI 102-03. 3.4.5 Solvent Emissions, max 0,096 kg/L (ASTM D 3960) This requirement is as determined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Reference Method #24 but is only applicable to materials used in the USA. 3.5 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS (FLTM B
11、I 103-02) 3.5.1 Substrate 3.5.1.1 Ford Engineering Approved Standard Steel Test Panels, not phosphated, but degreased in accordance with FLTM BI 103-02. Method F, Procedures # 1, 2, 3, & 4. 3.5.1.2 Ford Standard Cast Iron Test Panels, sandblasted to remove surface rust and any loose remnants of cast
12、ing materials. 3.5.2 Application Pneumatic spray application of the material under test. Spray Booth conditions 25 +/-1 C. 45 - 65% Relative Humidity. Spray viscosity Ford Cup 4, 25 C 20 +/- 2 s. Solvent WSK-M14J239-A Xylene, unless otherwise specified by vendor. Other solvents specified by vendor s
13、hall be Ford Product Engineering Approved prior to use. 14、at 25 +/- 1 C, 45 - 65% Relative Humidity. Sprayed panels shall be air dried and fully cured under the same conditions. 3.5.4 Tests Panels For Paint Adhesion and Salt Spray tests panels prepared by both item 3.7.1.1 and item 3.7.1.2 shall be used. For all other tests only panels prepared to item 3.7
15、.1.1 shall be used. 3.6 APPEARANCE The enamel shall bake out to a presentable, serviceable film showing no craters, pinholes or abnormal roughness. It shall not show excessive metallic mottling in the base coat. It shall have a reasonable tolerance for ordinary cleaning and show excellent polishing
16、characteristics when wheel polished with wide range of various compounds and cleaners. 3.6.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Shall match the Master Appearance Sample color panel. 3.6.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 glossmeter) Shall match the Master Appearance Sample color panel. Shall be specified by means of a
17、 letter suffix listed in the Material Specification to the color number assigned by the color release system. 3.6.3 Leveling The surface of the material under test shall be equal to or better than current approved production material for smoothness when applied and baked under identical conditions.
18、3.7 FILM PROPERTIES 3.7.1 Film Thickness 25 35 micrometer (FLTM BI 117-01) Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements of this specification. 3.7.2 Dry Hiding Power, max 20 micrometer (FLTM BI 158-01) ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSK-M1J206-A Copyright 2012, Ford Global Tech
19、nologies, LLC Page 4 of 4 3.8 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.8.1 Paint Adhesion Grade 0 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No chipping 3.8.2 Water Resistance, min 48 h (FLTM BI 104-01) No rusting, loss of adhesion, or more than a FEW microblisters, (Blister Rating ASTM D 714, size 8 maximum). 3.8.3 Salt Spray Resi
20、stance 48 h (FLTM BI 103-01) No rust spots, blistering, chipping, peeling and gloss loss. Do not scribe test specimens. 3.8.4 Heat Resistance (Oven Exposure 1 h at 150 +/- 3 C) No blistering, flaking or cracking. Only slight color change is permitted. 3.8.5 Paint Adhesion after Heat Resistance (FLTM
21、 BI 106-01, Method A) No chipping 3.8.6 Coolant Resistance (Immersion 1 h at 70 +/- 3 C) 50% current initial fill coolant, 50% water Shall not blister. Color change to Grey Scale AATCC Rating 3-0 is permitted. Gloss loss can be accepted. 3.8.7 Fuel Resistance (FLTM BI 152-01) Current initial fill ga
22、soline, National Standard Premium Grade and Current initial fill Diesel fuel, National Standard Grade No blistering. Slight softening or dulling of coating is permitted. 3.8.8 Hot Oil Resistance (Immersion 1 h at 90 +/- 3 C) Initial fill engine oil Shall not blister or show more than slight softening or dulling. 3.8.9 Electrical Resistance The electrical resistivity of the paint must be such that it satisfies the requirements of the equipment in the plant using it.
