SCOPE These specifications define the performance requirements for paints or powder coat systems with adequate appearance and durability for engines and engine accessories and/or parts within the engine compartment. WSK-M2P137-A1 For engines an

4、d parts requiring 24 h corrosion resistance or functional requirements. WSK-M2P137-A2 For engines and parts requiring 48 h corrosion resistance or functional requirements. WSK-M2P137-A3 For engines and parts requiring 96 h corrosion resistance or functional requirements. 2. APPLICATION These specifi

5、cations were released originally to describe the performance of finishes where resistance to corrosion, fuel, hot oil and coolant is required. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements F

6、or Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 SYSTEM COMPONENTS 3.3.1 Substrate As specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.3.2 Cleaning The surface to be coated must be free from oil or alkaline residues, fingerprints, rust, dirt, moisture, and other foreign materials. Page 2 of 6 3.3.3 Coating Material 3.3.3.1 Pretreatment A preliminary shot blasting or pickling operation may be required on castings, forgings, scaled steel. Zinc phosphate pretreatment is recomme

8、nded, but is not mandatory. The required performance may be achieved by other techniques. Where zinc phosphate is used it should be as follows: Zinc phosphate coating per WSK-M3P1-C for cold rolled steel, pre-coated, electroplated zinc or zinc alloy coated steel and zinc die castings. Chromium oxide

9、 coating per WSK-M6P2-B is used for aluminum. Zinc phosphate coating per WSK-M3P1-C shall be used if steel and aluminum parts are processed concurrently. The aluminum tolerance of the process used shall not be exceeded and all requirements of both WSK-M3P1-C and this specification shall be met by bo

10、th steel and aluminum parts. Light weight amorphous iron phosphate is not permitted. Machined surfaces, which on assembly mate with other surfaces, are to be masked or capable of satisfactory machining after coating. 3.3.3.2 Coating System The quality required is that obtainable with best commercial

11、 practice to meet the performance requirements of this specification. Air dried or stoved finishes are permitted. Any suitable method of coating application may be used. Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements of this specification. Durability is obtained by a) Quality of mat

12、erials used b) Variation in film thickness 3.3.3.3 Cathodic Electrocoat As specified on the Engineering Drawing Ford Engineering approved materials. 3.3.3.4 Primer, (Where necessary to achieve specified appearance and/or performance). This may be one coat or two coat synthetic resin based system, powder coat, water based, or solvent borne coating. Any c

14、oating must satisfy Manufacturing operational requirements and be a Ford Engineering approved material. Note: Engines oversprayed with approved clear lacquer WSK-M1J207-A or equivalent must meet the requirements of this specification on lacquer covered and bare metal areas. 3.3.3.6 Powder Coat As sp

15、ecified on the Engineering Drawing Ford Engineering approved materials. Ford Engineering approved polyester powder coat or Epoxy powder coat may be used. 3.4 FILM PROPERTIES 3.4.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Black or as specified on the Engineering Drawing or Color Release Supplement. Colored finishes sh

16、all match the Master Appearance Sample color panel. 3.4.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01) As specified on the Engineering Drawing or Color Release Supplement. 3.4.3 Initial Hardness The finish shall be sufficiently cured at the time of packing to withstand normal handling and shipping without damage. 3.4.4 A

17、ppearance The coating surface shall be uniform, smooth, and absence of dirt, pits, and scratches. 18、eel panels) 3.4.5.1 WSK-M2P137-A1 10 m 3.4.5.2 WSK-M2P137-A2 25 m 3.4.5.3 WSK-M2P137-A3 25 m Engines Coating must be sufficient to meet all the performance requirements of this specification. 3.4.6 Ageing All air-dry coatings shall be aged for 168 h at 23 +/- 2 C only before testing for film and res

19、istance properties. 3.5 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Paint Adhesion 3.5.1.1 Cast Steel, Smooth Steel, Grade 0 Zinc Alloy No chipping (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) 3.5.1.2 Aluminum No loss (FLTM BI 106-01, Method A) 3.5.1.3 Clear Coating Overspray, max Grade 1 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) Slight chipping f

22、P137-A3 96 h Note 1: Steel and Zinc Parts, Cast Iron Panels No rust spots, blistering, chipping, peeling, gloss or adhesion loss, and no rust creepage in excess of 3 mm from a line scribed through to the bare metal. Visible terminating edges and flanges shall meet same requirements as surfaces. Note

23、 2: Cast Engine Parts, Engine Assemblies and Accessories Parts shall be equal to or better than parts shown on Standard Photographs. Copies of these photographs may be obtained from the affected Component Engineering Activity. 3.5.4 Heat Resistance (Exposure in an oven for 1 h at 150 +/- 2 C) There

24、shall be no blistering, flaking, or cracking of the coating. 3.5.4.1 Pigmented Coating Only slight color change permitted. 3.5.4.2 Clear Lacquer Coating Yellowing but no wrinkling permitted. 3.5.5 Adhesion after Heat Resistance (FLTM BI 106-01, Method A, Cast, or Smooth Steel substrates) 3.5.5.1 Pai

Slight softening or dulling of coating is permitted. 3.5.8 Hot Oil Resistance (Immersion 1 h at 90 +/- 2 C Initial fill engine oil) Shall not blister or show more than slight softening or dulling. 3.6 FINISHED PARTS When it is not feasible to test actu

28、al parts because of size, laboratory panels may be substituted. Test panels shall be Ford Engineering approved standard cast iron and smooth steel. They shall be representative of production with respect to substrate, phosphate coating, powder coating, thickness, and all other operations. For Salt Spray Tests they shall be scribed to bare metal. Rust creepage on scribed panels, 3 mm max.
