2、OPE This specification defines performance requirements for finished coatings of nickel and chromium for the decoration and protection of ferrous surfaces. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally where a bright or low gloss decorative and protective metallic finish is required on f

3、errous surfaces, such as chromium plated steel bumpers. 2.1 LIMITATIONS Based upon field survey and accelerated laboratory testing experience, plated parts not designed for plating may not be capable of consistently meeting the requirements of these specifications on a production basis without the u

4、se of extraordinary processing techniques, e.g., use of auxiliary anodes, reduction in the parts per rack ratio, etc. If the requirements of this specification cannot be met due to part design, the supplier will inform the responsible product engineering office. 3. REQUIREMENTS All requirements iden

5、tified for this specification must be met to achieve acceptable field durability. All part testing requirements apply to those areas of the part identified as a significant surface per paragraph 4.1 unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing. Parts shall be free from the effects of hydrog

6、en embrittlement or other factors which result in part brittleness. The requirements of WSS-M99A3-A apply to parts plated to this specification. 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production

7、Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 FINISHED PARTS Testing must be done on production parts or a section of the parts. Where part dimensions limit equipment access, representative panels or plaques may be substituted for production parts with approval from the responsible Design Engineer. Testing for De

8、sign Verification (DV), Process Validation (PV), and in process sampling frequency can be found in Table 1, unless otherwise agreed to by responsible Design Engineer. 9、parts shall be free from surface imperfections, including, but not limited to, peeling, flaking, lifting, or discoloration of the electroplate. Parts shall match the approved Styling Master sample for appearance from Color Once/week on actual Ford part. 3.4.2 Bend Test 3 X X X 1/day (representative

Page 5 of 5 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeti

14、ng the requirements of the specification. Contact for questions concerning Engineering Material Specifications. 4.1 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing, significant surfaces are defined as those surfaces of the finished part that: Are directly visible and/or v

15、isible by reflection when the finished part is assembled in car position, and/or Can be the source of corrosion products directly visible or visible by reflection. 4.2 DUCTILITY (ASTM B490) Although this is considered a portion of the process control and not a requirement of part performance, the du

16、ctility of the electrodeposit on a finished part is considered acceptable when foils plated in the individual nickel baths meet or exceed the following values: Semi-bright Nickel 85% Bright Nickel 12% 4.3 NICKEL LAYER TYPES Semi-bright nickel: The sulfur content in the semi-bright nickel bath should

17、 be less than 0.005% (weight %). The sulfur content indicates the type of nickel plating solution to be used and may be measured per the test procedures identified in ASTM B456. In-process testing to determine sulfur content is essential to establishing and maintaining process capability and control

18、. Bright nickel: The sulfur content in the bright nickel bath should be greater than 0.03% (weight %). The sulfur content is specified to indicate the type of nickel plating solution that is to be used and may be measured per the test procedures identified in ASTM B456. . In-process testing to determine sulfur content is essential to establishing and maintaining process capability and control.
