2、-A STAINLESS STEEL (CHROME FLASH) NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines performance requirements for electrodeposited chromium flash on electro polished stainless steel surfaces. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for a coating where a bright or low
3、 gloss decorative and/or protective metallic finish is required on stainless steel surfaces such as exhaust outlet tips or interior and exterior moldings. FEASIBILITY If the requirements of this specification cannot be met due to part design restrictions, the supplier will inform the responsible pro
4、duct engineering office. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 ELECTROPOLISHING This process is for removing micro-fine burrs, light su
5、rface imperfections, stress relieving and removal of hydrogen embodiments. No deposition of copper shall occur on the passive surface. 3.3 APPEARANCE All parts shall have the finish bright or low gloss as specified on the engineering drawing. The plated parts shall be free from surface imperfections
6、. Bright or low gloss parts shall match the approved Styling master sample for appearance (SM 300UA). 7、 stainless steel, before chrome flashing. 3.3.2 Buffing Chromium Plating Because of the potential adverse effect on corrosion resistance, buffing of final chromium plating on parts is not permitted. 3.4 ADHESION (ASTM B 571) Adhesion of the plate to the base metal shall conform to the following requ
8、irements: 3.4.1 Sawing No lifting or peeling of the electroplate from the substrate is permitted following the sawing test. 3.4.2 Bending No peeling, flaking, or lift-off of the electroplate from the substrate is permitted following the bend test. Exhaust tips must pass heat test of 15 minutes 400 C
9、 W/O discoloring. 3.5 PLATING THICKNESS A minimum bright or black chromium plating thickness of 0.13 micrometers is required on significant surfaces. 3.5.1 Plating Thickness Measurement 3.5.1.1 The bright chromium flash thickness on significant surfaces shall be checked by the the electronic deplati
10、ng test; FLTM BQ 3-1, Determination of Thickness of Chromium Flash. In case of dispute, FLTM BQ 3-1 shall be the umpire method. 3.6 CORROSION RESISTANCE 3.6.1 Proving Ground Test (CETP 00.00-R-339/CETP 00.00-R-311) Parts plated to this specification must meet the requirements in the Worldwide Produc

12、ignated on the Engineering Drawing. The specular gloss of the surface shall not exceed the requirement of specification ESB-M25P2-A for the part in question. 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specificat
13、ion. 4.1 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing, significant surfaces are defined as those surfaces of the finished part that: . Are directly visible and/or visible by reflection when the finished part is assembled in car position. . Can be the source of corrosion products directly visible or visible by reflection. 4.2 SAMPLING AND INSPECTION As specified in Quality Control Specification Q-101, Appendix D, and consistent with the appropriate engineering specification (ES) as released by the responsible design engineering activity.
