2、s for an automotive carpet and upholstery cleaner. 2. APPLICATION This specification will be released for materials used to remove foreign matter and stains from automotive carpeting and upholstery (including seating fabric, headliner, etc.). The materials will function without damaging the carpetin

3、g, upholstery, and other interior, automotive materials and otherwise negatively impacting the vehicles interior qualities. This specification is not intended to limit the cleaning material to any specific material or material system, but defines the performance of the entire system. 3. REQUIREMENTS

4、 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 Must be of such a composition that meets all requirements described in this specification. The material or mater

5、ial system must be in a form that lends itself to ease of application. It must be in a ready-to-use or readily mixed form and must be capable of application with equipment normally available at all automotive dealers. 3.2 Must do an efficient and thorough job of cleaning, as outlined in Application

6、and the Testing Requirements, with minimum time and effort. Estimated amounts of material required for each application and applicable dilution information should be furnished to Ford Product Engineering. 3.3 Must react chemically and/or physically with all foreign matter and commonly encountered st

7、ains. 3.4 Must not leave a residue that is detrimental in any way to the carpeting or upholstery, the environment of the vehicle interior space, vehicle passengers, etc. 3.5 Must not have any detrimental effect (e.g., fading, scratching, blistering, staining, etc.) on any automotive parts that may c

8、ome into contact with the cleaner, including parts comprised of metal, vinyl, leather, thread, rubber (natural or synthetic), glass, painted and unpainted plastic, elastomers, and any other interior materials. The material must not stain or damage in any way the carpeting, seating fabric, headliner,

9、 instrument panel, trim, instrument cluster, interior painted surfaces, etc. 3.6 Must not have any detrimental effect in any way on the materials or components being cleaned or affect their functions in any adverse way. The material must be formulated to minimize health hazards to the user due to toxic or otherwise injurious ingredients. 3.8 Must be compliant with all published federal, state, provincial, and loc

11、al regulations, associated with the intended markets provided by Ford, for three years beyond the date of approval. The material must meet the current requirements of Fords Restricted Substance Management Standard (RSMS), WSS-M99P9999-A1. 3.9 Must leave the carpeting and upholstery with an acceptabl

12、e “like-new“ appearance. 3.10 Must be capable of being dispensed fairly rapidly (if using a spray bottle) or rapidly (if an aerosol), uniformly, and shall have a spray pattern with minimum spray back and overspray. 3.11 Must be capable of storage without any detrimental affect for an extended period

13、 of time. Supplier shall furnish all necessary information on types of material and conditions required for packaging and on the storage (shelf) life of the material in each of the product packages supplied. For any particular size package or container for the product, the supplier shall furnish inf

14、ormation on safe storage practices and recommendations as to maximum and minimum ambient temperatures and direct sun load conditions at which the product may be stored without any adverse affect. If the package is considered unsafe for storage in an automotive vehicle, the package shall be labeled a

15、ccordingly and the safe storage conditions specified. For all aerosol containers, the supplier shall furnish all pertinent information on pressures and propellants and any precautions involved in storing, handling, and use. 3.12 TESTING REQUIREMENTS 3.12.1 Cleaning Ability Follow the testing method

16、described in FLTM BN 112-08 using light-colored gray or tan carpeting of different weights, light-colored headliner fabric(s), and various light-colored seating fabrics selected from the interior materials currently used or soon-to-be used in Ford vehicles, but instead of the Ford-recommended uphols

17、tery cleaner referenced in the document, use the Supplier material. Record the color change score of the material for removing oil, grease, soil, coffee, orange juice, and ketchup from each of the materials. Also, record any changes to the carpeting and fabrics such as staining, fading, etc. A mater

18、ial must have a score of at least 3-4 (for removing each of the soiling agents), must not damage any of the samples, and the cleaned samples of carpeting and upholstery must be submitted to Ford Product Engineering to be considered for approval. 3.12.2 Stress Cracking Of Plastics Material must not c

20、ge 3 of 4 3.12.3 Instrument Panel (IP) Material Compatibility Test Method: Prepare IP panels for each of the various IP materials according to FLTM BI 103-02. Place a 1-cm diameter drop on each panels surface. Allow it to air dry at room temperature for at least 4 hours. Expose to UV and visible rad

21、iation at 140 F for 16 hours. After 16 hours, remove the panels from the radiation and elevated temperature and let cool to room temperature. Wash panels with distilled water and wipe gently with a soft, clean cloth. Verify if any staining, blistering, softening, wrinkling, etc. has occurred. A mate

22、rial must not cause any damage to the IP panels and the test panels will need to be submitted to Ford Product Engineering to be considered for approval. 3.12.4 Drying Time Must dry within a reasonable amount of time. Record the drying time (in minutes) after using the cleaner on a representative sam

23、ple of carpeting and a representative sample of upholstery. 3.12.5 Odor Must not have an objectionable odor during application and must not leave an objectionable odor after application and after the carpet and upholstery has dried. 3.12.6 Flammability Of Interior Materials Follow the test method de

24、scribed in FLTM BN 024-02, but using representative interior material specimens that have been contaminated (cleaned) with the Suppliers material and then allowed to dry. Report results for each of the interior materials. The Suppliers material must not adversely affect the flammability of the vario

25、us interior materials by leaving a hydrocarbon or other flammable film. 3.12.7 Fogging Must meet requirements of SAE J1756. Perform the test for each material on only one sample of carpeting and one sample of upholstery. Report results. 3.13 CHEMICAL otherwise, the methods of evaluation should be ex

26、plained in detail. 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 4.1 Comparative performance ratings utilizing the requirements outlined above and comparing the proposed material(s) to currently marketed Ford Motor Company products are encouraged.
