SCOPE The materia

4、ls defined by these specifications are polyester primer surfacers, modified with either urethane or acrylic resins, possessing good gloss, enamel holdout, and protect against chip damage. They are formulated to cure at 135 C min metal temperature. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were originally

5、released as guidecoats over currently approved cathodic electrocoat primer, conforming to performance requirements or related specifications, for both steel and primed plastic substrates. Application is targeted for high efficiency electrostatic equipment. Automotive exterior baking enamels, solvent

6、 borne basecoats, and/or water borne basecoats will be applied over these primers in exterior body applications. WSS-M6J152-B1, B3, and B4 The material defined by these specifications is supplied at normal viscosity and solids level as shown in this document. WSS-M6J152-B2 and B5 The material define

7、d by these specifications is supplied with reduced viscosity such that they are ready for use in the assembly plants. The reduced viscosity and associated reduced solids levels shall be agreed upon by the supplier, the affected assembly plant, Global Paint Engineering, and Production Purchasing prio

8、r to delivery of the materials to the respective assembly plant. 3. REQUIREMENTS Tests shall be made on the basis of comparison with approved production material applied and tested under identical conditions. 9、d Copyright 2008, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 2 of 9 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 COMPOSITION 3.3.1 Vehicle Modified Polyester crosslin

10、kable resin(s), with melamine or blocked isocyanate crosslinker(s). 3.3.2 Pigmentation Colorants, extender, and filler pigments obtain the desired color and resistance properties. Photo-oxidizable pigments are not permitted. 3.3.3 Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.), max 0.5 kg/L (ASTM D 3960 except

11、 bake schedule is as sprayed 60 minutes at 110 +/- 2 C) The volatile portion of this material shall meet the applicable requirements of the local air pollution control for the assembly plants in which the primer is used. 3.3.4 Non-Volatile Initial Sample (FLTM BI 102-01) +/- 2%, min 60% 3.4 PHYSICAL

12、 PROPERTIES (LIQUID STATE) 3.4.1 Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) Heat Stability Shall not jell, settle hard or increase viscosity in excess of 10 s Room Temperature No hard settling after 16 h with stability test sample reduced to spray viscosity with the suppliers recommended solvent or blend 3.4.2 Elec

13、trical Properties Resistivity: 0.05-0.5 megaohms Suitable to permit application at high transfer efficiencies using electrostatic equipment. 3.4.3 Viscosity Initial sample (FLTM BI 111-01) +/- 10 s Final approval of a specific material viscosity shall be made by the affected manufacturing activity.

14、In all cases the viscosity shall be within specification limits as identified on the material control plan. 15、 Sample (ASTM D 1475) +/- 0.05 g/ml 3.5 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS Prepare test panels per FLTM BI 103-02, Method C, using the viscosity specified by the supplier and a dry film build of 30 +/- 5 micrometers. Use the following substrates: 3.5.1 Substrates . Unpolished cold rolled steel zinc phosphat

16、ed panels conforming to the requirements of WSK-M3P1-C. . WSB-M1A250 galvanized steel zinc phosphated panels conforming to the requirements of WSK-M3P1-C. . Exterior thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic parts primed to conform to current production requirement. On metal substrates, all candidate

17、primers shall be tested as a guidecoat, directly over an approved current production electrocoat primer. On plastic substrates, all candidate primers shall be tested as a guidecoat, over primed plastic. Two sets of plastic panels shall be prepared: . Set I: An electrocoat primer bake is simulated. T

18、he panels are allowed to return to room temperature prior to applying the candidate primer. . Set II: The candidate primer is applied without simulating an electrocoat primer bake. All submissions will be tested at both min and max primer surfacer bake cycles (para 3.5.8). 3.5.2 Primers Only with Sa

19、nd-through Area Prepare panels in the following manner: . Substrates: Cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, and plastic with conductive primer. . Electrocoat primer (metal substrates only): Prime per FLTM BI 120-01 and bake at 10 minutes at 182 +/- 2 C metal temperature (20 minutes at 182 +/- 2 C lab

20、oratory oven). . Sanding: Allow panel to cool to room temperature. Using 320 grit sandpaper, make a 30 mm diameter bullseye through the primer, exposing the substrate. Clean the substrate and primer dust off of the panel. . Primer surfacer: Apply 30 +/- 5 micrometers of the candidate primer. Bake at

Bake conditions at metal temperature: 10 minutes at 140 +/- 2 C metal temperature (17 minutes at 140 +/- 2 C laboratory oven). 3.5.8 Primer Surfacer Bake Cycle The material shall pass all requirements when baked at both the following schedules: Metal Temp

33、l Technologies, LLC Page 6 of 9 3.5.9 Process Window Definition The supplier shall perform a Design of Experiment (Box-Behnken is recommended) to determine the process window of the material. The three variables to be included in the design are bake time, bake temperature, and film thickness. An ini

34、tial screening experiment should be conducted to determine what levels will be tested for the above stated design variables. This screening experiment should be reviewed with the materials engineer to set up the final DOE. Responses to the DOE will be based upon the materials tested and chosen from

35、tests listed within this specification. 3.6 APPEARANCE After preparing panels of the material under test and production primer according to para 3.5.2 (unsanded) and/or para 3.5.3, the primer under test shall be equal to or better than current approved production materials when tested under identica

36、l conditions for the following properties. 3.6.1 Color Shall match the approved color standard on file at Body and Assembly Paint Operations. 3.6.2 Gloss 80 +/- 5 (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 Glossmeter) On panels baked at 10 minutes metal temperature at 163 C +/- 2 C. 3.6.3 Leveling The primer film shall le

37、vel with a min of orange peel. The surface of the material under test shall be equal to or better than current approved production material for smoothness when applied and baked under identical conditions. 3.6.4 Holdout There shall be no evidence of dulling or strike-in when enamel color coat is app

38、lied over sanded or unsanded primer surfacer, and no difference in gloss of the color coat between sanded and unsanded primer. There shall be no prominence of sand scratches. Tests shall be made at both min and max bake cycles. 3.7 FILM PROPERTIES 3.7.1 Dry Sanding Characteristics The primer, when a

39、pplied and baked at both min and max cycles as outlined in para 3.5.8 shall dry sand (using a new sheet of 320 grit non-stearate filled paper for each panel) smoothly without clogging the paper and with a min of sand scratches. The material shall be equivalent in all respects to current approved pro

40、duction primer applied and tested under identical conditions. 3.7.2 Adhesion (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) Test material versus current approved production primer. Adhesion shall be satisfactory with no chipping, and equal to or better than current approved primer. 3.7.2.2 Primer to Conductive Primer Adhesion Using a plastic substrate, prepar

42、e panels per para 3.5.2. Two sets of panels are required, as described in para 3.5. Adhesion shall be satisfactory with no chipping and equal to or better than the currently approved production primer. 3.7.2.3 Adhesion of the Electrocoat - Primer Surfacer - Topcoat System Prepare panels per para 3.5

Adhesion shall be satisfactory with no chipping, and equal to or better than current approved primer. 3.7.2.4 Adhesion of the Electrocoat - Frontal Surface Chip Primer - Primer Surfacer - Topcoat System Prepare panels per para 3.5.4. The panel must be 90 relative to the gravelometers muzzle. 3.8.2 Stone Chip
