15、eed to store electronic devices for long periods of time. Lifetime buys are commonly made to support production runs of assemblies that well exceed the production timeframe of its individual parts. This puts the user in a situation requiring careful and adequate storage of such parts to maintain the
16、 as-received solderability and minimize any degradation effects to the part over time. Major degradation concerns are Moisture, Electrostatic Fields, Ultra- Violet Light, Large variations in temperature, Air-Borne Contaminants, and outgassing. Warranties and sparing also present a challenge for the
17、user or repair agency as some systems have been designated to be used for long periods of time, in some cases for up to 40 years or more. Some of the devices needed for repair of these systems will not be available from the original supplier for the lifetime of the system or the spare assembly may b
18、e built with the original production run but then require long term storage This document was developed to provide a standard for storing electronic devices for long periods of time. For storage of devices that are moisture sensitive but that do not need to be stored for long periods of time, refer

20、g Term Storage (LTS) of electronic devices by drawing from the best long term storage practices currently known. For the purposes of this document, LTS is defined as any device storage for more than 12 months but typically much longer. While intended to address the storage of unpackaged semiconducto
21、rs and packaged electronic devices, nothing in this standard precludes the storage of other items under the storage levels defined herein. 1.1 Scope 1.1.1 electronic, electro-mechanical (EEE) item, or assemblies using such items. This standard is intended to ensure that adequate reliability is achie
22、ved for devices in user applications after long term storage. Users are encouraged to request data from suppliers to this specification that demonstrates a successful storage life requested by the user. This standard is not intended to address built-in failure mechanisms that would take place regard
23、less of storage conditions. Packaged Electronic Devices. Electronic Devices are defined as any packaged electrical, 1.1.2 Unpackaged semiconductors. 26、vel(s) per SecLkw 3.3 be specified. When invoked without specifying a level, Level 2 shall apply. When Level 2 is specified, it may be satisfied either with a portable storage container per S.:.or a fixed storage location per Yectioii 3.2.1. Level 4 may be used to meet Level 3 requirements. Level 3

28、cordance with Se.?,.T. Parts shall be exposed to ambient air for as limited a time as possible, and shall be re-packaged or stored in 8 hours or less. Type A containers may be reused, so long as they are visibly inspected and show no damage. New desiccant shall be used for initial storage, and for e
29、very subsequent re packaging (if type A container). 3.5.3.1 Materials allowed inside Type A containers. No material shall be placed inside the container that is associated with outgassing (e.g. paper, cardboard, adhesives), even if this material was delivered as original packaging material from the
30、supplier. 3.5.4 is maintained. 3.5.5 handled in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations and in accordance with Section 3.5.1. Upon completion, parts shall be returned to storage per Seclim 3.5.3. Inventon, Control Process. A tracking system must be established to ensure that traceability S
31、torage Assessment - Optional. If surveillance is performed, the exposed parts shall be 3.5.6 accordance with Sctijr.3.J.I. Remaining parts shall be returned to storage per Sectiori 3.5.3. 3.5.7 labeled with the following minimum information: a. part number andor user identification traceable by the
32、user to the part number b. date/lot code c. quantity d. Long Term Storage “LTS” and Level. (i.e., LTS-1) e. Seal/Reseal Date f. ESDS, if applicable per JESD 625 Marking shall be permanent and legible to the extent that the marking shall not become illegible during normal handling over the storage li
33、fe of the part. Partial Removal from Storage. If a partial removal is performed, parts shall be handled in Marking.
