2、iption. This specification covers the performance requirements of an exterior emblem that is located in the vehicle grille, and used with an adaptive cruise control system. 1.2 Symbols. Not applicable. 1.3 Typical Applications. Not applicable. 1.4 Remarks. A protective hard coating is required on th

3、e first surface for weathering and abrasion resistance. The approved hard coating is 9984271 (UV cure), or optional 9982273 (thermal cure). The hardcoating dry film thickness (DFT) must meet the minimum DFT recommended by the supplier. Hardcoating/substrate performance must meet GMW14797. 2 Referenc

After any of the exposures in Table 1, there shall be no objectionable surface deterioration (including, but not limited to chalking, crazing, tackiness, distortion, blistering) or o

6、bjectionable color or gloss change. There shall be no loss of adhesion between layers (delamination), or between the emblem and the substrate. Prior to evaluation, wash samples using a sponge saturated with a solution consisting of a mild liquid detergent, such as unscented liquid Ivory or Joy (or e

7、quivalent) dishwashing soap, and deionized or distilled water at a ratio of 5:95. Test samples will be on exposure in Florida and Arizona and will be submitted to Materials Engineering upon completion. 3.3 Thermal Shock plus Rain-X Original Immersion. 3.3.1 Scope. Test ten emblem assemblies through cold and ho

12、t cycles followed by chemical immersion in Rain-X Original Glass Treatment (yellow bottle) to ensure environmental robustness. Required for initial approval. 3.3.2 Procedure: Thermal Shock plus Rain-X Original Immersion. 3.3.2.1 Cold soak emblems at -40 C for 4 h. After 4 h, immediately put the embl

13、ems into thermal chamber at 70 C for 20 minutes followed by -40 C for 20 minutes. Repeat this hot/cold cycle four (4) times for a total of five (5) cycles. After the final cold cycle, remove parts and let them come to ambient temperature for 30 minutes. 3.3.2.2 Place enough Rain-X Original Glass Tre

14、atment in a shallow container and fill to a level that will cover the emblem when emblem is submerged. 3.3.2.3 Submerge the emblem into the solution for 1 minute assuring that there is adequate solution to cover the interfaces between the acrylic insert and the bezel (if applicable). 3.3.2.4 Remove

15、emblem and lightly shake and tilt emblem to remove any residual solution. (There will still be solution between the components.) 3.3.2.5 Do not dry the part. 3.3.2.6 Place in a rack or fixture that would allow the emblem to sit in a vertical position unless otherwise directed. 3.3.2.7 Place in humid

16、ity chamber (GMW14729, Option A) for 24 h. 3.3.2.8 Repeat 3.3.2.2 thru 3.3.2.7 two more times (a total of three immersion cycles). 3.3.2.9 Remove emblem from the chamber and inspect the emblem. 3.3.3 Requirement: Thermal Shock plus Rain-X Original Immersion. No objectionable first or second surface

17、deterioration (including, but not limited to chalking, crazing, tackiness, distortion, blistering, objectionable color or gloss change, deposited metal corrosion, or adhesion loss). 3.4 Liquid Dye Penetration Test. Test standards test population of ten emblem assemblies through the liqu

19、id dye penetration test to visually detect contamination intrusion into the part. This test uses full emblem assemblies that are assembled using non-decorated (no decorative coatings/deposited metals) clear lenses so any intrusion of dark food coloring may be visible after test. 3.4.2 Materials Requ

20、ired: Liquid Dye Penetration Test. Pressurized container large enough to submerge part(s) for test. See Appendix A for an example. Black, blue, red, or green food coloring (28.3 g of dye per 3.8 L of water). 3.4.3 Procedure: Liquid Dye Penetration Test. 3.4.3.1 Prepare emblem assemblies with a trans

21、parent lens (no decorative coatings or deposited metals). 3.4.3.2 Emblems shall stabilize at room temperature for 24 h. 3.4.3.3 Use dark food coloring (blue, black, red, or green) that provides the strongest visual contrast to the injected molded material, mixing 28.3 g of dye per 3.8 L of water. 3.

22、4.3.4 Submerge parts in solution and pressurize container at 69 kPa for 1 minute. 3.4.3.5 Depressurize chamber and remove parts. The liquid may start to flow back out of recesses, if the parts are allowed to sit for prolonged periods of time. 3.4.3.6 Within 10 minutes after removing from the contain

23、er, look for evidence of dye/water solution intrusion between the decorated lens and the injected molded material. 3.4.3.7 Photograph results within 30 minutes. 3.4.4 Requirement: Liquid Dye Penetration Test. If there is any food coloring (colored liquid solution) that penetrates behind the decorate

24、d lens, the part fails the test. 3.5 Cold Impact. 3.5.1 Immediately after assembly, as detailed in 3.2, samples shall be placed in -30 C 2 C cold chamber for 4 h minimum. Each assembly must withstand two 1.7 J impacts. 3.5.2 After moisture and cold resistance cycling (15 cycles) plus 24 h minimum at

25、 -30 C 2 C soak, each assembly must withstand two 1.7 J impacts. Note: The decision to face or reverse impact will be determined by the assembly application and shall rest with the responsible Engineering Group. 3.6 Radar Test. The maximum 2-way attenuation as received, and after Xenon accelerated w

26、eathering, shall be less than or equal to 3.6 dB when tested between 76 GHz to 77 GHz. Examples of measurement systems are the Anritsu Material Measurement System (using the SM 5899 Radar Alignment System) or the Conti Test Method, or equivalent. 100% end of line testing is required. Contact the Des

27、ign Engineer for the appropriate material measurement system to use. 4 Manufacturing Process Not applicable. 5 Rules and Regulations 5.1 Legal Regulations. All materials must satisfy applicable laws, rules, regulations and recommendations valid in the country of usage. 5.2 Language. In the event of

28、conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 5.3 Inspection and Rejection. Samples of components or materials released to a GM material specification shall be tested for conformity with the requirements of this material specification and approved by

29、 the responsible Engineering department prior to commencement of delivery of bulk supplies. A new approval must be received for any changes, e.g., properties, manufacturing process, location of manufacture, etc. If not otherwise agreed, all testing and documentation normally required for initial rel

30、ease must be completed. It is the responsibility of the supplier to inform the customer in a timely manner, without solicitation, and to include documentation of all modifications of materials and/or processes and to apply for a new release. If not otherwise agreed, all release tests shall be repeat

31、ed and documented by the supplier prior to commencement of delivery of non-conforming bulk supplies. In individual cases, a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible Engineering department and the supplier. No shipments shall be made by any supplier until rep

33、resentative initial production samples have been approved by the appropriate Materials Engineering department(s) as meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.5 Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS). For new product submissions, or when a change in chemical composition of

34、an existing product has occurred, a complete copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet must be submitted in compliance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) requirements or other country-specific MSDS/SDS requirements. In addition, produ

35、ct MSDS/SDS submissions must be in compliance with specific country General Motors TMC003 Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet guidance documents where available. 5.6 All materials supplied to this standard must comply with the requirements of GMW3059, Restricted and Reportable Substances fo

36、r Parts. 6 Approved Sources Engineering qualifications of an approved source are required for this standard. Only sources listed in the GM Materials File (i.e., MATSPC) under this standard number have been qualified by Engineering as meeting the requirements of this standard. For other GM locations,
