This document describes tests measuring properties of single component, self-curing liquid anaer

3、obic compounds used for locking, retaining, or sealing of machined flange surfaces, and threaded or cylindrical assemblies. Anaerobics used for sealing casting porosity are not covered by this standard. 1.2 Foreword. 1.2.1 This document identifies which tests (Appendix A, Table A1) are assigned to e

4、ach functional application (e.g., locking, sealing, retaining, etc.) 1.2.2 Test Selection. This document provides test selection content criteria for creating and revising anaerobic specifications. Use Appendix A, Table A1 to select the appropriate tests for the chosen anaerobic use. 1.2.2.1 In Appe

5、ndix A, Table A1, tests marked “M” are mandatory and must be part of the regional standard. 1.2.3 This document is referenced in specific regional standards (e.g., North America 998s) to maintain a focal point for test content, procedures, and eliminates the need to reproduce them in each document.

6、1.2.4 Media. Approving global anaerobic formulations presents test selection challenges for determining media compatibility (see 4.16). Since initial approvals may be by region, media testing may only represent regional and application-specific choices. Regional document authors should consider usin

7、g standard test media with controlled, single source formulations (e.g., ASTM D471, standard test liquids) that are moderately more aggressive to anaerobics than current production fluids. Further, consideration should be given to testing all potential media use as part of the initial approval. Auth

8、ors are encouraged to contact the Global Powertrain Integration and Sealant Specialist Team, release responsible engineer, manufacturing liaison engineer, and the anaerobic supplier to coordinate and identify all appropriate media. 1.3 Applicability. 1.3.1 Classification, Paragraphs 4.2 Through 4.18

9、. Relate to product selection, consistency and short-term compatibility in application use and storage. Also they permit comparison of production compounds. 1.3.2 Performance Tests, Paragraph 4.19. Evaluates the retaining and sealing required in locking, retaining or sealing of machined flange surfa

10、ces, threaded or cylindrical assemblies in contact with the adequate fluids. They permit comparison and measure the performance level of production compounds. 1.3.3 Finish Influence. General tests for breakaway and prevailing torque, static shear strength (pin and collar), and fluid compatibility us

11、e test parts with plain finishes to minimize their effect on anaerobic test results. These standard tests achieve repeatable and reproducible results to compare liquid anaerobic compounds. The tester and end user may test production released finishes to measure their influence on general or performa

12、nce test results in the specified documents. 1.3.3.1 Base Metal Influence. Tests for anaerobic strength and cure are affected by the surface chemistry of base metals. The tester and end user should test no finish or uncoated production released surfaces to measure their influence on general or perfo

13、rmance test results in the specified documents. 1.3.3.2 Applicable Anaerobic Compounds. Global materials referencing this document are listed in Table 5. Table 5 content consists of regionally designated older active standards where the category test protocol may not be clear (Appendix A, Table A1).

A suitable area or room for conducting testing with a stable and known environment. See 4.2.1. 3.1.1 Calibration. The test facilities and equipment shal

23、l be in good working order and shall have a valid calibration label. 3.1.2 Alternatives. Alternative test facilities and equipment may also be used. However, all measuring variables, as specified in this standard, shall be determined correctly with respect to their physical definition. 3.2 Equipment

24、. This section lists items not described in the referenced test standards. 3.2.1 Required Basic. All test labs must have this equipment unless otherwise specified. Minor variations between test labs are permitted provided it doesnt alter test results as verified in a common part test with a GM quali

25、fied lab(s). 3.2.1.1 Torque Measuring Device. Capable of measuring the specified test joint fastening specifications. A digital unit capable of torque/angle measurement, e.g., Sensor I from Ingersol Rand meets the requirements. 3.2.1.2 Oven. Capable of meeting ISO 188, IEC 811 or ASTM D5423, type 1

Unit chamber interior must be of sufficient size to hold test specimens or fixture(s). 3.2.1.3 Scraper (see Figure 1) made of stainless steel, or 1008/1010 steel with nickel chrome finish. 3.2.2 Optional Equipment. 3.2.2.1 Timer (stopwatch) measuring in tenths of seconds. 3.2.2.2 Reflu

Follow the requirements described in the referenced test document for all test specimens used in one series of tests. 3.3.4 Criteria for

33、Test Standards without Gauging Requirements. For referee purposes, gauge threaded test specimens using variable thread gauging. Remove test specimens for the following reasons: 3.3.4.1 Damaged thread forms, tight or excessively loose fits, sticking or galling. 3.3.4.2 Rust or visible corrosion. 3.3.

34、4.3 Poor or irregular finish, drips or sags. 3.3.5. Static Shear Test Specimens (Pin and Collar). Unless otherwise specified by the regional test document, use test specimens described in ASTM D4562 or ISO 10123. See Table 3 category references. 3.3.6 Sealing Test Specimens (Pipe Tee or GM Sealing F

35、lange Test Fixture). Unless otherwise specified by the regional test document, use test specimens described in ASTM D5657 or ASTM D6396. See Table 3 category references. 3.3.6.1 For each test, use a minimum of 5 parts or assemblies per material batch for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submi

36、ssions. 3.3.6.2 All test specimens are taken from one production lot or batch. 3.4 Test Time. Not applicable. 3.5 Test Required Information. 3.5.1 Appendix A, Table A1 identifies the test and frequency after initial approval. 3.5.2 Initial Qualification. New or reformulated anaerobic shall be tested

37、 to all of its category (paragraph 7.1.8) relevant tests. See Appendix A, Table A1. 3.6 Personnel/Skills. Technicians (operators) must be experienced in these fixture and test procedures. It is an acquired skill learned through application. We recommend dedicated personnel for this procedure. 4 Proc

38、edure 4.1 Preparation. Follow the test specimen preparation procedures listed in Table 2 for the specified tests. 40、STM B36, alloy 8). Buff each in a circular manner with 400 emery cloth. Placing each test panel on a flat surface, cover half the panel (to the width permitted by the scraper) with test compound using a scraper (see Figure 1) capable of applying a 0.127 mm to 0.177 mm wet film thickness (0.254 mm to

41、 0.354 mm gap). A 0.127 mm coat is the maximum thickness for the lowest viscosity anaerobic in Table 1. Test the coated panel lying flat to GMW14729 for 72 h at 100% relative humidity and 38 C. A buffed blank panel may be used for comparative test conditions on the panel. Remove the coated portion c

42、arefully with a razor blade, non-abrasive cloth wet with water or suitable solvent. Examine (corrective vision) the previously coated area for red rust or white corrosion that cant be removed by scraping, wiping and buffing with the non-abrasive cloth (3M pad is suitable). Look at test panel materia

43、l results on each anaerobic independently. Avoid collective specimens on multiple panel materials influencing decisions. Test results shall be a GMW15357 (red) and GMW15359 (white), 9 or 10 scale rating. Note: Test panels are globally available from ACT Laboratories, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale,

44、 MI 49242; or Q-Panel, 800 Canterbury Road, Westlake, OH 44145 www.q-. ASTM A109 grade 2 is Q-Panel stock number RS-14. ASTM B209 is Q-Panel stock number AR-14. Various metal supply companies sell ASTM B36 in sheets. Test panels can be made in house. Figure 1: Scraper Fixture 4.7 Stability. Each co

45、mpound is conditioned using actual or projected storage conditions must be capable of passing all the requirements using GMW14735. This includes stability at elevated temperature, low temperature and storage. See specific compound specification. 4.8 Appearance. Examine (corrective vision) the compou

46、nd spread on a flat surface under natural light. It shall be smooth, homogenous, free of undissolved particles, lumps, caked material, and particles of foreign matter. 4.9 Fluorescence. If specified, the purchased product must fluoresce when examined (corrective vision) after illumination with a 365

47、 nm black light. Use a black light intensity of 400 W/cm2 to 800 W/cm2. 4.10 Basic Cure Breakaway/Prevailing Off-Torque. Use ISO 10964. Assemble adhesive coated bolts and nuts per ISO 10964. Apply adhesive to bolt-nut assembly and cure at 23 C 2 C for conditions specified in each regional standard.

48、The fastener shall then be rotated in the off direction at a rate at 10 RPM, with a torque measuring device of suitable capacity and sensitivity. Torque readings shall be measured at initial breakaway, and at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees of rotation per ASTM D5649 method from the unseated position.

49、Breakaway and maximum prevailing-off torque shall be determined from these readings. 4.11 Torque Tension. This document does not specify torque tension. Part finishes and application methods (quantity and location) significantly influence torque tension results. The part and process responsible engineer(s) shall specify production part torque tens
