2、al Item Description. 1. SCOPE This Commercial Item Description covers desks which are a part of a traditional line of metal office furniture. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 2.1 Design. The desks, returns and credenzas shall be traditional style intended for office use. The return attachments shall be d
3、esigned to be used with single pedestal traditional desks for creating clerical or secretarial sork stations. 2.2 W. Construction shall be welded or constructed in the best commercial practice of the manufacturer, completely setup, closed bottom. The case shall consist of front, sides, back, top, bo
4、ttom, and interior supporting members . 2.3 Top. The tops shall extend the full length of the top for maximum rigidity. Top edges shall have a binding strip. The top shall be covered with decorative, high pressure laminated plastic. With backing sheet to produce a balanced sandwich construction. A p
5、rotective edging shall be around the entire top and the color shall be gray, similar to the gray enamel finish (self-edging, not allowed). 7、e manufacturer may provide his equivalent comercial, white leather laminated plastic, subject to contracting officer approval. 2.4 Pedestal. Pedestals shall be reinforced by vertical uprights. Suspension case rails shall be secured to the vertical uprights. 2.5 Locks. The locks shall be of the disk
8、or pin tumbler type, having not less than four disks or pin tumblers, and shall be operated by a grooved key. The locks shall have not less than 125 key changes. No one key shall open more than the lock on one unit up to a minimum of 125 units consecutively produced. All locks on the on each unit sh
9、all be keyed alike. Two keys shall be funiished with each credenza. 2.6 Drawers. The drawers shall have stops to prevent accidental removal but allow removal without the use of tools. File and storage drawers shall be construction with double wall drawer fronts. The storage drawer body shall be cons
10、tructed to accommodate partitions. Each storage drawer shall have a minimum of two (2) partitions. The storage drawers shall be suspended on telescoping ball bearing slides, rollers, or nylon glides. The slides, glides, or rollers shall promote smooth quiet operation and prevent metal to metal conta
11、ct between suspension members. The file drawers shall be on full progressive suspensions or telescoping ball bearing slides, The file drawer shall have a spring-activated follower block which operates smoothly. Bumpers shall cushion drawer stops in both closed and extended positions. 2.7 Drawer and
12、door pulls. The finish shall be polished, chrome plate on steel, die-cast zinc, brass or bronze; polished stainless steel; or polished anodized aluminum. 2.8 Adjustable shelf. The credenza shelves shall be formed on all four sides. Shelf adjusting devices shall not be visible on the exterior of case
13、. Shelf supports shall be provided. 2.9 u. Legs shall be attached to the under side of the desk pedestal or end panel. The legs shall be equipped with adjustable glides. Alternatively, end panels, full panel to the floor with glides, may be substituted for legs. 2.10 Shelf, dictation. A sliding dict
14、ation shelf shall be provided in each desk pedestal. Alternatively, a sliding reference shelf shall be provided in the top storage drawer of each pedestal. 2.1 1 Attachment bracket. Each return shall be furnished with a bracket to facilitate intermembering with the respective desk covered by this Co
15、mmercial Item Description. 2.12 Finish. The finish shall be baked enamel. The color shall match Fed. Std. No. 595 - Gray (26 134). The label shall have the contractors name or trademark, contract e number, National Stock Number (if specified), and month, and year of manufacture legibly marked in dark ink. The label shall
17、be located on the inside of the knee space, near the top and back of the pedestal. The label shall not be removable by hand without defacement after being affixed for four hours. 2.14 Workmanship. The workmanship shall be of the quality to produce finished desks acceptable in appearance, hction, and
18、 serviceability and to prevent potential haard to personnel or their clothing. 2.15 Oualitv assurance provisions. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements specified herein. Sampling for inspection s
19、hall be performed in accordance with ANSIASQC Z1.4, unless an equal or better plan is approved by the contracting officer of hisher representative. A lot shall consist of units of one type, class, style, and color. The sample shall be one each. Inspection levels and AQLs shall be as follows: For fit
20、, finish, and all other workmanship - Level II, AQL 6.5 defects per hundred units. For packaging, packing, and marking - Level S-2, AQL 4.0 percent defective. Any failure to meet the dimensions, color, identification label or performance requirements shall cause rejection of the lot. a 2.15.1 Perfor
21、mance. The Government reserves the right to subject any unit from any production lot to the specified testing. Testing shall be repeated whenever a change is made in material, construction, or method of production during the course of a contract. Failure of any cabinet to comply with these requireme
22、nts shall be cause for rejection. 2.15.2 ANSUBIFMA. Each desk shall comply with the applicable requirements of BIFMA Desk Products Standard X5.5-1998. 2.15.3 Level test for top. This test unit shall be located on a flat surface. Place a steel straight- edge on edge, diagonally (corner to corner) acr
23、oss the top. The length of the straight-edge shall be greater than the diagonal length of the top. There shall be no gap between the straight- edge and top greater than 3 mm at any point along the diagonal length of the top. This test shall be performed along both diagonals of the top before and aft
24、er performing the top loading test specified in BIFMA. 2.15.4 Chromium plating test. Plated samples shall be tested for corrosion in accordance with the 5 percent neutral salt spray at 35C in accordance with ASTM Test Method B-117. The test period shall be not less than 48 hours. 30、ticable. 4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial
31、market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.1 Tests and test methods. Cabinet testing shall be performed in accordance with test methods specified. This does not preclude the use of other test fixtures if the mechanics of the system are duplicated for similar te
32、sts. Points or reference lines shall be provided as applicable so that accurate measurement may be taken to determine if any permanent distortion has taken place in any cabinet component under test. Failure of a cabinet to pass a test shall be considered as failing to comply with specification requi
33、rements. 5. Preservation, Packaging, packing, labeling, and marking.
