CCC-MO42 (GSA-FSS) 17 October 1952 FEDERAL SPECIFICATION CLOTH; COTTON, MUSLIN (MERCERIZED) This specification tuas approved by the Comniissiotier, Federal Supply Serv- ce, Getieral Services Admnstration, for the use of all Federal agencies. 1. SCOP

2、E AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1 Scope.-Muslin covered by this specifi- cation is a closely singed, desized, and fully mercerized cloth having a crisp, lustrous fin- ish. It is primarily intended for use as dress goods and suiting material. 1.2 Classification. 1.2.1. Tgpe.-There shall be one type as hereina

3、fter described. 13.2 CoZor.-The color shall be as specified (see 3.1.6). 1.2.3 Grade.-The grade shall be that known commercially as firsts. 2. APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 The following Federal specification of the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids forms a part of this specification. C

REQUIR

7、EMENTS . 3.1 Mnslin.-The cloth shali be of cotton, thoroughly cleaned and free from waste. 3.1.1 Weave.-The weave shaii be plain. 3.1.2 Yarns per inch.-There shall be not less than 63 yarns per inch in the warp and not less than 46 yarns per inch in the filling (see 4.3). 3.1.3 Brealcing strength (g

8、rab method) .- The breaking strength shall be not less than 60 pounds in either the warp or filling (see 4.3). 3.1.4 Weight. 2 The weight per square yard shall be not less than 5.0 ounces, (3.2 yds. per lb.). 10、use of sulphur dyes is prohibited. 3.1.6 Shrinkage.-The shrinkage shall not exceed 1 percent in either the warp or filling (see 4.3). 3.1. Xoiifiboiis matericils.-The total siz- ing, finishing, and other nonfibrous materials shall not exceed 2 percent. (See 4.3.) 3.1.8 Finish. -The cloth shall be fu

11、lly mercerized, have a crisp, lustrous finish and shall show no appreciable change in appear- ance or hand after three launderings. (See 4.3-method .5550.) 3.1.9 Width.-The finished width shall be 35?i inches ;4 inch. 3.1.10 Length. -The cloth shall be fur- nished in either 30/35 yards to the bolt d

12、oubled and rolled, or 100/120 yards to the bolt in the flatfold, put up as specified. 3.2 Identification.-Each bolt shall have a stringed tag attached to the selvage legibly marked with the contractors name, the con- tract number, and the yardage. 3.3 Workmanship. - The finished muslin shall be clea

13、n and free from defects which affect the appearance or which may impair the serviceability. 4. SAMPLING, INSPECTION, AND TEST PROCEDURES 4.1 Sampling.-At least two pieces of each color not less than 1 yard long and the full width of the fabric, shall be taken at random from each 1000 yards or fracti

14、on thereof as offeredfor delivery, except when the ship- ment is over 10,000 yards one piece of each color not less than 1 yard long by the width shall be taken at random from each one- tenth of the shipment. 43 Inspection.-Inspection shall be made at the point of delivery or at the factory, at the

15、discretion of the purchaser. 4.3 Tests.-The tests shall be conducted in accordance with the following methods de- scribed in Federal Specification CCC-T-191: Test !Method Xo. 17、ified. 5.2 Packing.-The subject commodity shall be prepared for shipment to permit acceptance by carrier for transportation at the lowest applicable rate! and to afford maxi- mum protection from normal hazards of transportation. 5.3 Marking.-Unless otherwise specified, shipping containers shall be m

18、arked with the name of the material, the color and the quan- tity contained therein, the name of the con- tractor, and the contract or order number. 6. NOTES 6.1 Ordering data. -Purchasers should specify the color of the muslin and the put-up desired and should exercise any desired options offered h

19、erein. (See 1.2.2, 3.1.5, 3.1.10, 4.2, 5.1, 5.3, and 6.2.) 6.2 It is believed that this specification adequately describes the characteristics nec- essary to secwe the desired material, ancl that normally no samples will be necessary prior to award to letermine conformance to the requirements of thi

29、 or as directed by the contracting officer.) 7.2.2 Workmanship (Aiy Force only) .- The product shall be manufactured in accord- ance with high-grade commercial practice to produce material of uniform quality substan- tially free from defects of any character. When the material of this specification

30、is included in a category of material described in Air Force Specification Bulletin No. 94, Textile Defects, Classification of, the mark- ing of defects, the designation of acceptable and nonacceptable defects, and the amount of additional material, if any, which shall be furnished without cost for

When inspection is conducted at the contractors plant all inspection and testing shall be under the supervision of the Govern- ment inspector. Inspection may be made throughout the entire process of manufac- ture. The pa

36、ssing as satisfactory of any detail of construction or material shall not relieve the contractor of responsibility for faulty morkmanship or material which may be discovered at any time prior to final ac- ceptance, and shall in no case be construed as a guaranty of the acceptance of the fin- ished p

37、roduct. Contractors not having lab- oratory testing facilities satisfactory to the Government shall engage the services of a commercial testing laboratory acceptable to the procuring agency. The contractor shall furnish test reports, in duplicate, showing quantitative results for all tests required by this specification, and signed by an author- ized representative of the contractor or lab- oratory, as applicable.
