SCOPE This material details the requirements of a high bake, non-paintable, non-expanding weld through sealer. The material is intended for use in the body shop on

3、the mating surfaces of the joints as well as the applications to seal body joints against water, dust and air intrusion. The material must be a smooth and homogeneous mixture free of air, lumps, unmixed particles and foreign materials. It must be capable of being dispensed with standard production p

4、umping equipment. The material must adhere to oily metal. It must have good weatherability and must not accelerate rusting of metal substrate over which it is applied. 2. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 2.1 Specific Gravity - (ASTM D1475) - 1.1 to 1.5 An individual specific gravity range for each approved sourc

5、e will be set at the time of approval to this specification. This specific gravity range will become a requirement of that material. 2.2 Solids Content 95% Min 2.3 Viscosity (ambient) - 6-11 Seconds Viscosity (after 3 days conditioning at 40C) 30 Seconds maximum Test Method: HN 0060. Except use 0.07

6、9” orifice 40 PSI, 20 gm at 25C. 2.4 Colour Black 2.5 Odour The sealer must not have a toxic or noxious odour. After curing the sealer must be relatively non-odorous. 8、2. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES (continued) 2.6 Toxicity The sealer must not adversely affect those personnel handling it. 2.7 Composition Material must not contain chlorine containing components. 3. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Adhesion One set of sealer panels oiled as in HN 0233 shall be prepared as per H

9、N 0234 and baked at 185C for 30 minutes. 3.1.1 Initially the sealer material must not crack or lose adhesion to the panel during or after bake. 3.1.2 Heat Ageing Panel from 3.3.1 shall be baked for 2 weeks 70C. There shall be no cracking or loss of adhesion. 3.2 Corrosion Resistance Prepare panel as

10、sembly by taking two 0.8 mm x 300 mm x 100 mm plain steel panels, placing a 250 mm x 3 mm bead of sealer centrally on one of them and placing the second panel directly over the first. Spotweld the panels together by placing 5 spotweld uniformly spaced along the centre line of the panels through the

11、sealer bead. Panel assembly is then put through production phosphate and elpo paint system. Expose the panel assembly to 20 cycles of the procedure given in HN 0214. After completion of the corrosion cycle, remove test panels and immediately rinse with warm water. A.C.N. 006 893 232 Holden Limited E

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (continued) 3.2 Corrosion Resistance (continued) Drill out the spot welds and pry panels apart. Carefully remove sealer with scraper and examine panel condition for rust belo

14、w the sealer bead. There must be no rust beneath the sealer bead. 3.3 Cold Slam The material must withstand two 1.69 joule impacts at - 10C. Prepare panels as described in HN 0234 Clause 3.4 and bake panels at 185C for 30 minutes. Perform impact test as described in HN 0142. 4. PROCESS REQUIREMENTS

15、4.1 Sag - 5 mm Max. The material shall be stirred with a spatula for 1 minute. Place a single bead of sealer as described in HN 0234 Clause 3.1 on to an oily panel as per HN 0233. Position the panel vertically with the bead horizontal for 30 minutes at 25C. Measure the distance that the bead has sag

16、ged after this time. 4.2 Pressure Stability The material must be capable of withstanding pumping pressure of 22,400 kPa for 3 days without its viscosity or other characteristics being adversely affected. PROCESS REQUIREMENTS (continued) 4.3 Smoke The material shall not smoke (Visual Observation) when exposed to a temperature of 200C. 4.4 Welding The material must not cause excessive flashing, must not be detrimental to electrode tip life, and must meet the wel

19、d requirements as outlined in HN 0019. 4.5 Flashpoint - (ASTM D92) No flash up to 200C using Open Cup Method. 4.6 Before Bake Characteristics - (HN 0017) 4.6.1 Wash-Off Resistance No loss of material or distortion of bead. 4.6.2 Flame Resistance The sealer shall be self extinguishing for 50 passes o

20、f the Fisher Burner Flame. 4.7 Stability Requirements Material conditional as described below must be able to pass all requirements of this specification. 4.7.1 Elevated Temperature Stability The sealer as shipped must be capable of withstanding 3 days at 40C. INITIAL SOURCE APPROVAL No shipment shall be made by any supplier until a submission of representative initial production samples to the purchaser, Engineering Department has been approved as meeting the requirements of this spec

SOURCE SHIPMENT RESPONSIBILITY It will be the responsibility of the supplier to ensure that the material is not exposed to temperatures during shipment which would cause the material to fail to meet any of the requirements of this specification. 7 APPROVAL, INSPECTION AND REJECTION Ref
