20、Units IEST-RP-CC036.1 1 SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS 1.1 Scope This Recommended Practice (RP) covers laboratory methods for testing the performance of a fan filter unit (FFU). The purpose of this RP is to provide customers and suppliers of FFUs the necessary test protocols for measuring and reporting perfo

21、rmance, excluding filter efficiency. These methods provide the means for direct comparison of units provided by different manufacturers, which may be of varying designs and have different operating features. The test methods identify test equipment and testing procedures necessary to measure volumet

22、ric airflow, electric power parameters (wattage, amperage, voltage, and power factor), available external static pressure, sound power levels, and filter airflow velocity uniformity. These procedures are applicable for FFUs with AC motors, with DC brushless motors, with constant airflow control, and

23、 without constant airflow control. 1.2 Limitations This RP does not provide guidance for field testing, although some of the techniques described herein can be applied to field testing. This RP does not recommend acceptance performance values or limits for FFUs. Codes and standards may be applicable

24、 to the construction and performance of FFUs. These codes and standards should be made part of the agreement between the customer and supplier. The procedures described in this RP are applicable to FFUs with filter dimensions equal to or less than 1.2 m (4 ft) in any direction. Testing for fan filte

25、r housing vibration is an important performance parameter for FFUs used in selected arrangements and installations. This parameter is not part of the testing criteria covered in this RP. This RP does not discuss filtration efficiency or filter performance. These parameters are discussed in IEST-RP-C

Usually the value is expressed as decibels (dB), referenced to 10-12 W. airflow The movement of air in a given direction with respect to a specified refere

35、nce plane or other designated physical reference. The rate of airflow is expressed in terms of volume per unit time. volumetric airflow The volume of air that passes through a given surface per unit time. airflow velocity The rate of airflow that passes through a given surface. This velocity is expr

36、essed in terms of length per unit time. airflow velocity uniformity The range of variability in the velocity of air exiting from the face of a fan filter unit (FFU), expressed as the percent relative standard deviation of the airflow velocity measurements. cleanroom A room in which the air supply, a

37、ir distribution, filtration of air supply, materials of construction, pressure gradients, and operating procedures are regulated to control airborne particle concentrations to meet established air cleanliness levels, as defined by ISO 14644-1. DOP (or DEHP) Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) or di(2-ethylhexyl

38、) phthalate (DEHP); CAS# 117-81-7. With reference to filter testing, DOP also refers to a poly disperse aerosol of the described material. fan filter unit A compact enclosure that contains an electric air moving device (fan) and an air filter. filter, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) An extend

NOTE: Traceability to NMI standards does not always require the use of the NMI of the country in which a calibration laboratory is located. relative standard deviation (% RSD) The uniformity of test data based on the extent of the spread or distribution of the data,

43、 expressed as a percentage of the standard deviation: % RSD= (standard deviationaverage of data )(100) sound intensity The acoustic or sound power per unit area expressed in watts per square area. Usually this value is expressed as dB referenced to 10-12 W/m2. sound power (see acoustic sound power)

Usually, this value is expressed as dB referenced to 20 micro-pascals. static pressure The pressure exerted by a fluid at rest or, if the fluid is in motion, the pressure it ex

45、erts perpendicular to its direction of flow. external static pressure The static pressure losses caused by any devices located to the exterior of the FFU that are in the airflow path of the FFU. Such devices may be pre-filters added to the FFU, either direct mount to the FFU or remote mount in air r

46、eturn ducting. Pressure losses associated with return air ducts or pathways also affect the FFU performance. available external static pressure The maximum static pressure loss that can be added to either the air inlet or air outlet of the FFU, while still allowing the FFU to be adjusted to maintain

47、 a rated or specified airflow. NOTE: The FFU is generally adjusted by increasing the FFU fan motor speed as the external or internal static losses increase. internal static pressure The static pressure losses caused by such internal components of the FFU as the air filter, any internal sound bafflin

48、g devices, and housing airflow patterns. These losses are unique to the design of the FFU and the associ-ated air filter and will vary as the FFU airflow varies. true power True power is defined by the formula true power = (current)(voltage)(power factor). Power is expressed in watts, current is exp

49、ressed in amps, and voltage is expressed in volts. Power factor ranges from 0.0 to 1.0 and is dependent on the electrical characteristics of the combined electrical components.
