4、olution A.744(18) and subsequentlymade mandatory under SOLAS regulation XI-1/2, which entered into forceon 1 January 1996. This regulation requires that bulk carriers and oil tankersas defined in SOLAS be subject to an enhanced programme of inspectionsin accordance with the Guidelines. The enhanced
5、survey programmeshould be carried out during the surveys prescribed by regulation I/10 ofthe 1974 SOLAS Convention, as amended.2 The Guidelines are divided into two annexes:.1 Annex A (Guidelines on the enhanced programme of inspec-tions during surveys of bulk carriers), including:Part A Guidelines
6、on the enhanced programme of inspectionsduring surveys of bulk carriers having single-side skin construc-tionPart B Guidelines on the enhanced programme of inspectionsduring surveys of bulk carriers having double-side skinconstruction.2 Annex B (Guidelines on the enhanced programme of inspec-tions d

8、 have been frequently updatedand brought in line with regulatory and technological developments as wellas with current practice, in particular with the relevant IACS UnifiedRequirements.4 The Guidelines have been amended in accordance with theprovisions of article VIII of the SOLAS Convention, eithe
9、r by IMOsMaritime Safety Committee (MSC) or by a Conference of SOLASContracting Governments, as follows:.1 by the June 1996 amendments, which were adopted byresolution MSC.49(66) and entered into force on 1 July 1998;iii.2 by the November 1997 amendments, which were adopted byresolution 2 of the Con

Where a bulkcarrier has a combination
47、of single- and double-side skin construction, therelevant requirements of parts A and B should apply to that construction, asapplicable.1.1.2 The Guidelines should apply to surveys of hull structure and pipingsystems in way of cargo holds, cofferdams, pipe tunnels, void spaces withinthe cargo length
48、 area and all ballast tanks. The surveys should be carried outduring the surveys prescribed by regulation I/10 of the 1974 SOLASConvention, as amended.1.1.3 The Guidelines contain the extent of examination, thicknessmeasurements and tank testing. The survey should be extended whensubstantial corrosi
49、on and/or structural defects are found and includeadditional close-up survey when necessary.1.2 Definitions1.2.1 Bulk carrier is a ship which is constructed generally with singledeck, topside tanks and hopper side tanks in cargo spaces, and is intendedprimarily to carry dry cargo in bulk and includessuchtypesasorecarriersand combination carriers.1.2.2 Ballast tank is a tank which is used for water ballast and includes sideballast tanks, ballast double-bottom spaces, topside tanks, hopper side tanksand
