4、ty and quality levels for the finish on Navistar products and to define requirements and physical properties of the various materials used in the painting operation. 1.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comp

5、ly ith the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. w2.0 APPLICATION CEMS G-5 is divided into eight parts as follows: Part IA - Product Finishing Requirements Part V - Primers Part IB - Paint Material Requirements Part VI - Paints for Repair and Service Part II - Topcoats Part VII - Deleted Part

6、 III - Chassis, and Miscellaneous Paints Part VIII - Engine Paints Part IV - Casting Sealers Part IA - Outlines classes of finish for Navistar parts, components, and products. It defines requirements and describes physical properties which govern durability, corrosion protection, and overall appeara

7、nce quality. Part IB - Outlines the procedure for specifying paint materials covered in the CEMS G-5 specification. Parts II thru VIII - Details specific liquid properties and dry film requirements for all paint materials used by the Company. The dry film requirements described in these seven sectio

8、ns apply to painted test panels evaluated under laboratory conditions. PART IB - PAINT MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS This part of the specification covers general requirements and methods of

12、, separated by a dash. Color and gloss are specified in the appearance designation with gloss being 83 min unless otherwise indicated by a letter. Paint properties and special requirements are specified in the grade designation. A typical paint identification number is shown by the following example

Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. 5.1 Grade Designation The grade designation consists of two digits. The first indicates the Part of the specification involv

18、ed except for Grades 17, 18, and 19 which are covered in Part II, and the second refers to the requirements within the appropriate specification. A suffix is also occasionally used to indicate a special requirement. For example: “-29T.” The “2” represents Part II, the “9” quality requirements of the

19、 paint, and the “T” a special requirement (higher baking temperature). When referring to a specific paint, such as on a purchase order, the complete appearance and grade designation will be specified along with the color name. This will help avoid confusion. Examples: NAV 0483-18 Yellow NAV 0001L-29

20、 Black 5.1.1 When referring only to color, as in pamphlets or letters, appearance designation and color name will be specified. The grade designation is not necessary. Examples: NAV 4421 School Bus Yellow NAV 0311 Omaha Orange 6.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 6.1 Color Requirement This consists of one digit

21、 indicating the basic color and either three digits or a letter and two digits indicating the serial number of the particular shade of the basic color. 6.2 Gloss Requirement Minimum gloss requirements are indicated by suffix letters to the color number in the appearance designation. No suffix will b

22、e used when full gloss is required or when specifying primers and casting sealers. 6.3 Texture Requirement When texturing is desired, the suffix “T” is added after the gloss indicator in the appearance designation. Texturing always requires a gloss designation. 7.0 QUALITYAll paints furnished under

23、this specification will be formulated and manufactured with good paint practice to comply with all applicable OSHA, FDA, and EPA regulations in addition to all details of the specification. They will be free from foreign matter and relatively toxic materials unless details of such hazardous material

24、s are furnished in advance of qualification. Primers will not contain chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents or possess an odor which is objectionable. Primers sprayed under normal conditions will atomize (break-up) properly and build without “orange peel.” Grades -54, -55, and -56 primers will be compati

25、ble with zinc coated steel. 7.1 Sampling Procedure To ensure correct results, tests for conformance to the requirements of this specification will be conducted on samples of the paint prepared according to the following procedure: 7.1.1 For initial qualification samples and representative production

26、 samples received in small unpressurized containers, stir the paint by hand with a spatula for one to two minutes. If the paint does not mix readily, do not proceed but contact the vendor. 7.1.2 Using mechanical shakers for small containers such as 3.8 liter (one gallon) cans and rolling machines fo

27、r large containers such as 208 liter (55 gallon) drums, thoroughly mix the paint in the as-received containers for at least 15 minutes. 29、ical Standards. Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. and air entrainment will result. Mix pressurized containers for two to three minutes and immediately perform spray out tests. For a catalyzed system, mix the paint portion only. Do not mix the catalyst. 7.1

30、.3 After mixing, allow sufficient time for bubbles of entrained air to dissipate. One to two minutes is generally sufficient. Puncture pressurized containers at highest point to allow propellant to escape slowly, then enlarge hole to permit removal of the paint. 7.1.4 With the paint at a temperature

31、 not less than 18C (65F), draw off into a clean, dry metal sample container enough paint to perform the tests required. With pressurized containers, transfer entire contents. Seal the sample container immediately. 7.1.5 Immediately before each test is started, stir the paint in the sample container

32、with a spatula to insure uniform sampling. 7.1.6 For one component system (standard type), draw off sufficient sample from the sample container for the particular test being conducted and immediately reseal the sample container. 7.1.7 For catalyzed systems, draw off a sufficient sample from the samp

33、le container and catalyst from the catalyst container keeping sample and catalyst in separate test containers. 7.1.8 For catalyzed systems, measure out the proper ratio of sample to catalyst from the test containers per manufacturers recommendations and mix them together thoroughly. 7.1.9 For single

34、 component systems, repeat (7.1.5) and (7.1.6) each time a sample is drawn from the sample container. 7.1.10 Repeat (7.1.2) each time a test requires the use of the pressurized container, except for CEMS GT-3F. 7.1.11 For two component systems, repeat (7.1.7) and (7.1.8) each time a sample and catal

35、yst are drawn from their respective containers for a catalyzed system. 7.1.12 For one component systems, all extra sample material may be saved for further use. For two component systems, discard all extra mixed sample material in a safe and proper way. 7.2 Engineering Qualification Production mater

36、ial can be furnished under this specification only after formal Engineering Qualification. The Purchasing department will request Materials Engineering at Truck Development and Technology Center to issue an Engineering Qualification to the supplier. Material submitted for qualification will be accom

37、panied by a sample part, detailed test information, and also certification that the material meets all requirements of this specification. 7.2.1 After the material has been tested by the approved facility, manufacturing plant trials will be conducted to assure that the proposed material is compatibl

38、e with production processes. On completion of these tests, all departments involved will be notified that the material has been either qualified or rejected. Prior to regular purchase, samples must be submitted for Manufacturing approval. 7.2.2 Material subsequently supplied to this specification wi

39、ll have the same formulation as the qualification samples. No change in composition or method of manufacture will be permitted without approval of Materials Engineering. Refer to the “Engineering Qualification” section in Volume 1 of the International Material Specifications Books for an outline of

40、how this procedure works. Note: Where there is no specific grade designation for a water borne, powder coat, or other non-classified paint, it may be qualified to the specification of the solvent system it replaces based on dry film properties. Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. 7.2.3 Production material received by the Plant will be examined for conformance to as much of the specification as is practical. Properties most suitable

43、for acceptance testing have been designated in the appropriate grade sheets under “Property Requirements.” Failure to meet any requirement of this specification will be cause for rejection. 8.0 METHODS OF TEST NAVISTAR CEMS GT test methods are available from Information Handling Service (IHS), 15 In

45、ble from General Services Administration, Business Service Center, Region 3, Seventh and D Streets, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20407. 9.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL9.1 Supplier RequirementsAll suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR

46、will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to t

47、heir Corporate Buyer upon request. 9.2 ApprovalParts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples, which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. I

48、n the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering at Truck Development and Technology Center and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended
