5、o called “decals” or “transfers”) used for application to the Companys products. Another material used for similar purposes is covered in the Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Films specification, CEMS G-7. 2.0 INTRODUCTION Decals are used primarily for product graphics to provide product information. All

11、D 3884 NAVISTAR CEMS G-7 NAVISTAR EPS-143 5.0 CLASSIFICATION This specification covers the following types of product graphics known as ”Decalcomania”: Type Method of Application 1A Solvent applied only to one side of decal (strip type). Used for factory application, not service. 1B Solvent in water
12、 applied to entire decal (dip type). 2 Water applied to entire decal. NOTE: Solvents used in applying decals will have a minimum flash point of 55F. 6.0 PROPERTY REQUIREMENTS Decals purchased to this specification will meet the property requirements specified herein. These requirements will apply fo
13、r a period of 5 years from date of manufacture providing they have not been stored in the sun or in temperatures over 120F. See ”Methods of Test,” Section 8. 6.1 Decals As Received 6.1.1 Flexibility - Neither the film nor the backing will crack, nor will they stretch or wrinkle appreciably during pr
14、oper application. Minor wrinkling in application is not objectionable, but no wrinkle will be apparent after drying. 6.1.2 Release - Film will easily release from the backing when tested as specified. 6.2 Decals As Applied 6.2.1 Weathering - After exposure in all of the following tests, the applied
15、decals will show no cracking, checking, or peeling and only slight loss of gloss or color change. 18、ied. 6.2.3 Abrasion - No evidence of an underlying contrasting color will be visible following the specified test. 6.2.4 Bleeding - After aging as specified, the decal will exhibit no color cast of the paint to which it is applied. 6.2.5 Color - Will match the color samples available thru Materials
19、Engineering, TDTC, 2911 Meyer Road, P. O. Box 1109, Ft. Wayne IN 46801-1109. 7.0 QUALITY The design will be as specified. All lines and color overlap will be sharp and clear, with successive layers in proper register. The colored areas of the decals will be opaque, while the transparent areas will b
20、e clear and colorless. The decals will have an acceptable gloss, but will have no ”milky” appearance when dry. 7.1 Key Control Characteristics Unless otherwise specified on the engineering drawing, blueprint, and/or purchase order, the following features/characteristics are identified as features fo
21、r which management by statistical process control is mandatory for product graphics supplied to this specification. Refer to Engineering Design Standard A-16. 22、for approval prior to shipment of production parts. Navistar approval includes approval of the suppliers artwork by Corporate Technical Standards at TDTC or the appropriate Product Design Center or Parts Marketing Group, as applicable. If Purchasing re-sources an existing product graphic, Purchasing
23、 is responsible to ensure that the appropriate Controlling Engineering Design Group reviews the new suppliers production artwork. 7.3 Qualification Materials Materials submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following: 7.3.1 A detailed, signed test report documenting testing t
24、o this specification per TMS-9543. 7.3.2 Test coupons or photographs showing failure modes for each test. 7.3.3 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation and condition of the test coupons. 7.3.4 Adhesive, substrate and any chemicals used.

DECEMBER 2009 Page 4 of 6 8.0 METHODS OF TEST 8.1 Tests on Decals as Received 8.1.1 Flexibility - Bend a dry decal in any direction around a 1/2 inch diameter mandrel at a temperature of 70 to 80 F. Examine for cracking with the unaid
28、ed eye. 8.1.2 Release - Wet Types 1A and 1B decals with the proper solution supplied by the manufacturer, place on painted panel, roll down or squeegee, wait 30 seconds from time of wetting, then remove backing. 8.1.2.1 Immerse Type 2 decals in water with a temperature of 60 to 80F, wait 30 seconds
29、from time of wetting, then remove backing from the film. 8.2 Preparation of Test Panels Prepare panels as indicated in CEMS G-5, Part I, and coat with NAV 2305-62 Red paint. Apply decal as specified to air-dried paint after it is tack free, but no later than 6 hours at room temperature, or to oven-d
30、ried paint within 5 minutes after panel has reached room temperature. Tests will also be made on decals applied 72 hours after application of paint. Age for 12 to 32 hours following application of decal. 8.3 Tests on Decals As Applied 8.3.1 Weathering - Expose as specified. Prepare an extra panel to
31、 be stored away from direct sunlight so color and gloss of the exposed panel may be checked against it. 8.3.1.1 Outdoor tests: Expose separate test panels to South Florida and Northern US outdoor weathering per CEMS GT-7F for the time specified in Section 6. 8.3.1.2 QUV-B Weatherometer Test: Test in
32、 accordance with CEMS GT-31 Method D QUV-B. 8.3.1.3 Xenon Weatherometer Test: Test in accordance with CEMS GT-31 Method B Exterior Xenon. After exposure as specified, wash the panel with a mild detergent, then examine for cracking, checking, and peeling with the unaided eye. Compare with the extra p
33、anel for loss of gloss or color change. 8.3.2 Adhesion - With a sharp blade attempt to remove a portion of the decal without destroying the finish to which it is applied. 8.3.3 Abrasion - Test per ASTM D 3884 on a Taber Abraser equipped with a vacuum attachment to remove abraded particles. Use CS-17
34、 wheels, freshly dressed before the test, with 500 gram loads. Operate the test for 1000 cycles, then remove the panel and examine the decal to determine if an underlying contrasting color is visible. CAUTION: Wheel must contact the decalcomania only and never touch the painted surface of the panel.
35、 Samples must be 4-inch diameter disks. 8.3.4 Bleeding - Bake at 150F for 24 hours. Examine light colored areas for any reddish cast. 8.3.5 Color - Compare visually with the color samples obtained thru Materials Engineering, TDTC, 2911 Meyer Road, P. O. Box 1109, Ft. Wayne, IN 46801-1109, under D65/
36、10 simulated daylight at a 45-degree observer angle. 38、l suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must mainta
39、in their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 9.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples that were ap
40、proved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, TDTC, and
41、 NAVISTAR Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with th
42、e request for change. 9.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capab
43、le of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 10.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS 10.1 Drawings Since the major d
44、ifference between Types 1A and 1B is in the method of application, it is unnecessary that this be indicated on the drawing. The drawing need only indicate ”Type 1” for the solvent-applied grade, or ”Type 2” for the water-applied grade, as follows: EXAMPLES Type 1, CEMS G-6 Type 2, CEMS G-6 See ”Appe
45、ndix - General Information” for further information on the characteristics of decals. 10.2 Purchase Orders These must indicate whether the strip type (1A) or the dip type (1B) of solvent-applied decal is required. DECEMBER 2009 Page 6 of 6 11.0 PACKING AND SHIPPING Decals will be packed with slip-sheets between each one, so that they can be readily
48、 separated without damage when unpacked. Each bundle will contain a suitable stiffener securely bound to prevent curling or warping. Bulk packaging and identification will be in accordance with Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13. 11.1 Each bundle will be identified with the Navistar part number, date of manufacture, the type number of this specification, and CE
