5、E This specification describes the test method of chipping and salt spray testing. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards applies. The following specifications, standards, and regulations are referenced herein. CEMS GT28 SAE J400 ASTM B 117 A
6、STM D 1654 4.0 APPARATUS 4.1 Q.G.R. Gravelometer machine capable of reaching 80 psi. 4.2 A straight-shank tungsten carbide tip, lathe cutting tool with an angle of 60 +/- 15 . 4.3 A freezer capable of maintaining a temperature of -30 C (-22 F) within +/- 3 C (+/- 5 ). 5.0 MATERIAL 5.1 3” x 6” bumper

9、 Place one of the metal coupons or parts in the freezer at -30 C (-20 F) within +/- 3 C (+/- 5 F) for one hour, while keeping the other coupons or parts at 21 to 27 C (70 to 80 F) room temperature. 6.2 After one hour, remove the coupons or parts from the freezer and test in the Q.G.R. Gravelometer p
10、er SAE J400. 6.3 Test the coupons at room temperature in the Q.G.R. Gravelometer per SAE J400. 6.4 Examine both sets of panels for excessive chipping per CEMS GT-28. 6.5 Using the lathe cutting tool at a 45 angle, scribe the third set of coupons or parts per ASTM D 1654. 6.6 Place all three sets of
11、coupons or parts in the salt spray chamber and test per ASTM B117 for 50 hours. 6.7 Within 15 minutes of removing the pieces form the salt spray chamber, rinse the specimens with water. 6.8 Using a metal piece or a dull knife, vigorously scrape over the scribe or gravel chips while under the stream
12、of water per ASTM D 1654. 6.9 Place the 3M Permacel 99 adhesive tape over the scribe or gravel marks to remove any loose paint from the metal. 6.10 Examine the coupons or parts for evidence of creapage from the scribe or gravel chips. 6.2 REPORT Report as pass or fail per CEMS GT-28.
