5、ed or unpolished) metal surfaces against deterioration, corrosion, abrasion or damage during fabrication, transportation, handling, or storage. Type I is a spray-on coating, while Type II is a film laminated to the metal coil or sheet by manual or automated methods. 2.0 SCOPE This specification cove
6、rs general requirements for both Types I and II coatings, requirements for uncured sprayable coating solution, performance requirements for the cured sprayable coating, and requirements for the film laminate coating for coils. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product
7、 supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. 9、be easily removable without damage, residue, or discoloration of the object coated. Unless otherwise specified, all sample preparation and testing related to Type I coating shall be in accordance with the methods described in MIL-C-16555. FEBRUARY 2009 Page 2 of 4 4.1 Type I Spray-on coating 4.1.1 Uncured Properties 4.1.1.1 Composition Shall be 30% (by weight) min non-volatile material. 4.1.1.2 Viscosity Shall be 70-100 Krebs units, when t
12、ested at 10 1C (50 2F). 4.1.1.3 Gelation At Low Temperature When stored at -29C (-20F), solution shall be restorable to a free-flowing consistency for spraying by manual or mechanical stirring at 25 1C (77 2F). 4.1.1.4 Separation Of Pigment After storing in a closed container for 10 days at room tem
13、perature, the pigment shall not separate from the solution in such a manner as to prevent restoration of the coating solution to consistency for satisfactory spraying by manual stirring at 25 1C (77 2F). 4.1.1.5 Sprayability The solution shall be supplied in a consistency satisfactory for applicatio
14、n with conventional pressure-type spray equipment. 4.1.2 Cured Coating Properties The minimum coating thickness shall be 0.35 mm (14 mils) and the coatings shall be capable of meeting the following performance tests at this min thickness. In actual use, thinner coatings may be used provided that all
15、 the cured coating requirements are satisfied. 4.1.2.1 Tensile Strength Shall be 3.4 MPa (500 psi) min. 4.1.2.2 Elongation Shall be 200% min. 4.1.2.3 Low Temperature Flexibility After conditioning at -23 1C (-10 2F), the test specimens shall be capable of bending around a 25 mm (1 in) diameter mandr
16、el without cracking or breaking. 4.1.2.4 Heat Resistance Coating shall show no evidence of shrinkage, separation from the panel, bubbles, darkening or other visible evidence of degradation. After cooling to room temperature, the coating shall not crack or break on being peeled back from the panel. 4
17、.1.2.5 Water Vapor Transmission Water vapor transmission rate after exposure to accelerated weathering described below shall be not more than 1.2 grams per 6.45 x 10- m (100 in) per 24 hours. 4.1.2.6 Accelerated Weathering After exposure to 100 hours standard Weatherometer testing or 100 hours QUV t
18、esting, coating shall show no visible evidence of degradation or shrinkage and shall be strippable from the test panel in one continuous sheet. 4.1.2.7 Salt Spray Resistance The test specimen shall show no evidence of corrosion, and the coating shall show no pinholes or separation from the metal, af
19、ter testing for 96 hours per ASTM B 117. 4.1.2.8 Adhesion Shall be not less than 87.5 N (0.50 lbf) and not more than 390 N (2.25 lbf) per m (in) width. FEBRUARY 2009 Page 3 of 4 4.1.2.9 Flammability Test specimens of the dried coating shall cease to burn or glow within five seconds after the source of ignition is removed. 4.2 Type II Laminated Film 4.2.1 Film Properties The sheet/tape product will be a polyethylene or vinyl type with low-
22、to moderate-tack adhesive, compatible with a polished stainless steel or aluminum substrate (or as otherwise specified), and easily peelable without leaving residual adhesive, discoloration, or residue. Preferred color of film to be white. 4.2.1.1 Thickness Thickness of the film will be in the range
23、 2-5 mils (0.05-0.13 mm). 4.2.1.2 Tensile Strength Shall be 3.1 MPa (4500 psi) min. 4.2.1.3 Elongation Shall be 450% min. 4.2.1.4 Adhesion Shall be not less than 87.5 N (0.50 lbf) and not more than 390 N (2.25 lbf) per m (in) width. 4.2.2 Performance Properties 4.2.2.1 Formability Film shall show no
24、 evidence of shrinkage, separation from the panel, bubbles, darkening, or other visible evidence of degradation during normal metal forming conditions. 4.2.2.2 Application and Storage Temperatures Film should be applied to and removed from metal at a temperature of 60F minimum, and stored at 60-80F
25、(assuming 40-60% relative humidity) before and after application. 4.2.2.3 Appearance and Removal Sheet/film will adequately conform to the metal substrate when applied, and shall not crack, bubble, wrinkle, tear, sliver, discolor, etc., until final removal from metal substrate. Film will peel off in
26、 long clean sheets. 5.0 QUALITY All product supplied shall be clean and free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmful to product performance. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System R
27、equirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registra
28、tion certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 30、ders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or
31、 labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Truck Development and Technology Center (TDTC) and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated M
32、aterial Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide stati
33、stical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant may determine testing and reporting requireme
34、nts on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing and identification shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std.
