5、-3 Key Words: Air Brake Hose Assemblies 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers reinforced hose and hose assemblies with permanently attached end fittings for use in the air brake system. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers general, property and performance requirements, designation on drawings, q

6、uality, source approval and quality control, and approved sources. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise s

7、pecified the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following Specifications, Standards, and Regulations are referenced in this specification. Quality System Standard ISO 9001 or TS-16949 NAVISTAR CEMS A-40 ASTM D 395 NAVISTAR Engineering Design Std A-16 NAVISTAR CEMS C-3 ASTM D 6

8、22 CFR Title 29, Part 1910 ASTM D 3395 SAE J246 NAVISTAR Manufacturing Std. MS-D-13 FMVSS 106 SAE J1402 NAVISTAR CEMS A-0, Pt. I ASTM D 380 NAVISTAR CEMS A-0, Pt. II CEMS B-50 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Product supplied to the requirements of this specification shall meet all requirements of FMVSS 106

9、 and SAE J1402 for Type A Hose. 4.1 Hose Construction The hose consists of a suitably blended ethylene-propylene-diene-terpolymer (EPDM) tube suitably reinforced with polyester textile fabric and EPDM cover. 4.2 Fittings - Reference SAE J246 The hose fittings shall be permanently attached with a bra

10、ss interior (the metal exposed to the interior air). The exterior components (nut and cuff) may be brass or steel. 12、nc. APRIL 2009 Page 2 of 5 4.2.1 Minimum Material Requirements 4.2.1.1 Brass For bar or extruded stock: C36000 (Half hard), C34500, or C35000 per CEMS C-3. For forgings: C37700 per CEMS C-3. 4.2.1.2 Steel Shall meet requirements of Code 0-115 per CEMS A-0, Part II. Flareless type ferrules will be ma

13、de from steel 1008, 1010, 1112, or 12L14 per CEMS A-0, Part I, and case hardened to Class 3 or Class 3A per CEMS A-40, Section A. 4.3 Paint Mask All hose assemblies provided to NAVISTAR production facilities shall have a removable paint mask covering the entire length of exposed hose. 4.4 Dimensions

14、 And Tolerances The dimensions and tolerances of hose and hose assemblies shall conform to SAE J1402 for Type A hoses. 4.5 Property And Performance Requirements Hose and hose assemblies shall meet the requirements of FMVSS 106 and SAE J1402 for Type A hose, and additional requirements of this specif

15、ication. All tests shall be performed in accordance with ASTM D 380 and/or ASTM D 622 unless otherwise indicated. 4.5.1 Original Properties TUBE AND COVER REQUIREMENTS Tensile Strength, MPa, min 7.0 Elongation, %, min. 200 Durometer, Shore A 70 - 85 Cold Flexibility (Tube and Cover): -40 C (-40 F) S

17、od Age material and hose assemblies for 168 hours at 100 C (212 F) prior to test. Hose assemblies shall be tested in the same manner as required in SAE J1402 “High Temperature Resistance“. APRIL 2009 Page 3 of 5 4.6.2.2 Required Tensile Strength - 80% minimum retention Elongation - 50% minimum retention Hardness - 10 points maximum change Burst - 900 psi minimum There shall be no cracking, charring, or disin

20、tegration after straightening and the hose shall meet the “Proof Pressure“ requirements of SAE J1402. 5.0 QUALITY All hose produced to this specification shall be clean and free of dirt, grease, and contamination. All rubber debris from cutting and processing shall be removed. Any internal release a

21、gents shall be flushed from inside the hose. There shall be no fabric or flash exposed on the ID of the hose. All hose assemblies shall be capped after final cleaning and caps shall be retained on hose until installation on the vehicle. 5.1 Qualification Material and processes submitted for approval

22、 to this specification shall include the following: 5.1.1 Report: A detailed and signed test report documenting testing to this specification prepared as per TMS-9543. The report will include actual test data not merely test summaries. 5.1.2 Failure Modes: Test samples or photographs showing failure

23、 modes for each destructive test as necessary to fully describe those failure modes. Descriptions are adequate if the mode is easily understandable (no jargon) and not unexpected. Unexpected failure modes shall be described or pictured as completely as possible. 5.1.3 Test Procedure: The procedure u

24、sed for preparing, curing and assembling materials for test. 5.1.4 Analysis: A detailed analysis of the test results including assumptions made, unexpected results, and an explanation of any non-compliant results. 5.2 Submission The material test report shall be submitted to: Manager of Non-Metallic

Unless specific exception is noted, the following character

HOSE ASSEMBLIES: LENGTH * Other Characteristics for inclusion in the control plan may be specified on the engineering drawing and/or purchase orde

27、r. * See Engineering Design Standard A-16 (1) It is recognized that inside diameter is difficult to measure on rubber products, however, it is the most important dimension with regard to function and performance. APRIL 2009 Page 4 of 5 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navista

30、r will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to

31、 their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without

32、approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering as TDTC and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance

33、 to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests o

34、n specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality

35、control manager of the using Navistar plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing and identification shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std. MS-D-13. 7.1 Identification Hose and fittings supplied to thi

36、s specification shall be identified in accordance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 106 and SAE J1402 for Type A hose. In addition, the following information shall be printed on the hose. A second lay line may be used to comply with all identification requirements 7.1.1 Each hose manufactur

37、er shall incorporate into the construction of the hose an identifying yarn (color) as assigned by the Rubber Manufacturers Association. Each hose shall be labeled or marked on the outer cover along the entire length of the hose at intervals of 330-380 mm (13-15 inches) in a color contrasting to that

38、 of the hose color, in clearly legible block capital letters not less than 3 mm (1/8 inch) high, with the following minimum information in the order listed: (a) Vendor Code - A four-or-five-digit code assigned by Navistar to each vendor. Contact Corporate Technical Standards, TDTC, for assignment of

39、 codes. (b) Hose Type - Identification by hose type, as required. (c) Size - Nominal size, i.e., diameter in fractions of an inch or “dash“ sizes, as required. 42、s. Other methods of date code may be used by agreement between the purchaser and supplier. NOTE: In many cases, DOT, FMVSS, and/or SAE documents and specifications prescribe a specific marking identification procedure. Where identification requirements of this specification conflict with DOT, FMVSS,
