5、ction, sound barrier, polymeric sheet, mass damping 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers flat or formed polymeric sheet material that is suitable as a barrier for the purpose of reduction of transmitted sound, or as an extensional (or constrained-layer) mass-damper treatment. 2.0 SCOPE This spe

6、cification covers the general requirements, property and performance requirements, quality, qualification, source approval, and quality control for six weights of polymeric sheet materials that can be used as a sound deadener coupled with an underlayment of foam or shoddy. The type of underlayment i

7、s to be specified in an appropriate specification. Other applications may include vibration dampers for treatment of vehicle substrate material. 2.1 Type I: minimum weight is 2.44 kg/m or 0.50 Lb/ft 2.2 Type II: minimum weight is 3.90 kg/m or 0.80 Lb/ft 2.3 Type III: minimum weight is 4.88 kg/m or 1

8、.00 Lb/ft 2.4 Type IV: minimum weight is 6.10 kg/m or 1.25 Lb/ft 2.5 Type V: minimum weight is 7.81 kg/m or 1.60 Lb/ft 2.6 Type VI: minimum weight is 1.7 kg/ m or 0.35 Lb/ ft 2.7 Type I, II, III, IV, V, or VI Sound Deadeners will be further divided into Grade A, B, C, D, E, F or G dependent on Prope

9、rty and Performance values listed in Section 4.2. Note: If Grade is not specified, then Grade A shall apply. 2.8 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification.

14、natural rubber. The types of underlayment are to be broken down further into grade classifications and are to be called out on appropriate drawings and/or specifications. Materials listed below are typical materials for that grade. Other materials may be acceptable with consultation and approval fro

16、30 J - 0.03 0.17 0.25 Composite loss factor requirements apply to the actual (vehicle) substrate material, with damping layer including production adhesive. Values shall be determined directly by using the Oberst bar method of SAE J1637 or estimated indirectly from the material loss factors and mate

17、rial Youngs moduli using the method of ASTM E 756. The overall size of the Oberst bar shall be nominally 12.7 x 200 mm Composite loss factors are to be an average of at least three samples each from three different production lots. Values at specified frequencies shall be determined by linear interp

18、olation of adjacent modal points and shall meet or exceed the tabulated values. Deviations from test method and analysis requirements will be reviewed and judged by the Vehicle Acoustics Group, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Grade A consists of a flat or formed polymeric sheet material used as a sound barrier

19、 that may be coupled with an underlayment of foam or shoddy. Grade B consists of a damping sheet with PSA backing for applications requiring high damping performance. Foam density = 2.0 lb/ft3 Grade D consists of a limp PVC barrier coupled with a 1.0” open cell polyurethane foam. Foam density = 1.5 lb/ft3 Grade E consists of a

22、 limp PVC barrier coupled with a 0.25” layer of open cell polyurethane foam and a 3.2 mm PVA damping sheet. Foam density = 2.0 lb/ft3. Foam underlayment shall meet TMS-6505, Type I. The damping sheet shall meet the material loss factor and Youngs modulus ratio requirements stated for TMS-6601, Grade

23、 B. Grade F consists of damping sheet with PSA backing for applications requiring lower extensional damping performance. Grade G consists of a 3.2 mm PVA damping sheet with a 0.005” aluminum constraining layer on one side and PSA backing on the opposite side. Grade H consists of a damping sheet with

24、 PSA backing for applications requiring middle-performing damping. Grade I consists of a damping sheet with PSA backing for applications requiring very-high extensional damping performance. Grade J consists of a damping sheet with PSA backing for special applications. 4.1.2 Finish Parts shall be fre

25、e of pin holes, blow holes, bubbles, mold flash and have an otherwise acceptable appearance. Color, grain and finish shall match standard samples specified by Truck Development and Technology Center, Industrial Design. 4.1.3 Color Parts shall be black unless otherwise designated on the engineering d

26、rawing. 4.1.4 Odor Shall have no offensive odors either wet or dry. 4.1.5 Dimensional Tolerances Tolerances described herein supersede standard blueprint tolerances. DECEMBER 2008 Page 5 of 6 5.0 QUALITY Workmanship shall be such that each part is provided with a clean surface, neatly trimmed edges, all holes or slots free from slugs, and made in conformance with good manufacturing practices. De

39、fects which affect the appearance or performance of the finished product shall be cause for rejection. 5.1 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for this product will be established by mutual agreement between NAVISTAR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following charact

40、eristics, where applicable*, shall be included in the plan as features for management by statistical process control.* KLength and Width * Other characteristics for inclusion in the control plan may be specified on the engineering drawing and/or purchase order. * See Engineering Design Standard A-16

41、. 5.1.1 The quality control plan should include periodic evaluation of the sound transmission loss if applicable. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also acce

42、pt TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate

43、 Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event th

44、at changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating con

45、formance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of

46、 tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the

47、quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing and identification shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std.
