Reference: Keywords: Sealer; Water Borne, Clear Sealer 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers two types Type 1-Gun/Spray Grade and Type 2-Brush Grade o
5、f water borne, clear latex sealers used to seal gaps and joints primarily on the firewall and under cab areas. It has sufficient UV and weather resistance for minor sealing applications on exterior vertical surfaces. It is intended for application on painted surfaces at temperatures of 16C (60F) or
6、above and should not be applied in temperatures below 4C (40F) or where the sealer will be exposed to wet conditions before drying. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general requirements, property and performance requirements, quality, source approval, and quality control requirements for the
7、two types. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified the latest issue of all referenced standards sh

9、CEMS B-50 SAE J243 NAVISTAR TMS-9543 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS This material shall be a water borne (latex) sealer with an opaque white appearance as applied and upon complete drying, change to a clear colorless appearance. It will skin over with slight tack about 60 minutes after application dependi
10、ng upon ambient conditions of temperature and humidity. The material shall be suitable for the intended use and application methods. 4.1 Type 1 Gun/Spray Grade Shall be a high viscosity grade suitable for dispensing from a drum pump with follower plate and applying by gun or spray method. 4.2 Type 2 Brush Grade Shall be a medium viscosity caulking g
13、rade suitable for dispensing from a drum pump with follower plate and application by brush. 4.3 Uncured Property And Performance Requirements 4.3.1 Viscosity 4.3.1.1 Method A Type 1: SAE J243, Procedure ADS-1, Agitated Conditioning Method C, Pressure Flow Method, 275 kPa (40 psi), 25 1C (77 2F), 20g
14、, 1.33 mm (0.052 in) orifice. 4.3.1.2 Method B Type 2:ASTM D 1084, Method B Brookfield Viscosity (RVF), #7 Spindle, 10 RPM 4.3.1.3 Required: Type 1: 40 + 10 sec.; Type 2: 70,000 to 110,000 cps 4.3.2 Density 4.3.2.1 Method: Water displacement or equivalent 4.3.2.2 Required: 0.95 0.02 kg/l (7.93 .17 l
15、bs/gal) 4.3.3 Percent Solids 4.3.3.1 Method: ASTM D 1489 4.3.3.2 Required: 57 2% 4.3.4 Slump 4.3.4.1 Method: Apply a 6.4 x 12.7 x 76.2 mm (0.25 x 0.50 x 3.0 in) half-round, horizontal bead on vertical E-coated test panel. 4.3.4.2 Required: Type 1 - less than 3.2mm (0.125 in) SAG in center of bead, T
16、ype 2 - less than 12.7mm (0.5 in) SAG in center of bead. 4.3.5 Odor Material shall not have an objectionable odor. 4.3.6 Tack-Free Time 4.3.6.1 Method: Apply a 3.2mm (0.125 in) thick wet section to an E-coated test panel. 4.3.6.2 Required: Shall become tack-free in 60 minutes, max 22C (77F) and 50%
17、R.H. 4.3.7 Usable Life in Open Pot 4.3.7.1 Method: Open pot 102mm (4 in) diameter - material depth 51mm (2 in). 4.3.7.2 Required: Material to remain usable for a minimum of four hours at 22C (77F) and 50% R.H. 4.3.8 Freezing of Applied Sealer 4.3.8.1 Method: Apply 31.8mm (1.25 in) wide strip of seal
18、er, 3.2mm (0.125 in) wet thickness to an E-coated panel. Dry one hour at 22C (77F) and 50% R.H. Transfer panel to a freezer and dry two hours at -18C (0 F). 4.3.8.2 Required: Material shall not crack or lose adhesion. 4.3.9 Cleanability Uncured material shall clean easily from equipment using soap a
19、nd water. 4.3.10 Freeze/Thaw Stability Production drums shall be stable to freeze/thaw during shipment and receipt at the Navistar facility. 21、 Page 3 of 5 4.3.11 Shelf Life Material shall have a shelf life of one-year minimum from date of receipt. 4.4 Cured Property and Performance Requirements Apply 31.8mm (1.25 in) wide strip of sealer, 3.2mm (0.125 in) wet thickness to an E-coated panel. Oven dry panels horizontally 72 hours at 49C (12
22、0 F). 4.4.1 Heat Aging 4.4.1.1 Method: Age panels 48 hours at 82C/180 F in a vertical position. 4.4.1.2 Required: Shall not sag, crack, lose adhesion, or shrink back from original edges, and have no more than a slight color change. 4.4.2 Fluid Aging 4.4.2.1 Method 1-Water: Soak panels one hour in wa
23、ter at room temperature. 4.4.2.2 Required: Shall not dissolve or lose adhesion. Any softening or milky appearance after soaking shall be temporary, and recover clarity upon drying. 4.4.2.3 Method 2-Oil: Soak panels one hour in engine oil at room temperature. 4.4.2.4 Required: Shall not dissolve or l
24、ose adhesion. 4.4.3 UV Resistance 4.4.3.1 Method: Perform 500 hours QUV-B test as per ASTM G 53 Cycle = 8 hours UV 60C (140 F) 4 hours dark condensing humidity at 50C (122 F) Repeat cycle for test duration. 4.4.3.2 Required: Material shall not crack, lose adhesion, or have more than a slight color c
25、hange. 5.0 QUALIFICATION Qualification of new products is required prior to production use. Material and processes submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following: 5.2.1 A detailed, signed test report documenting testing to this specification prepared per TMS-9543. 5.2.2 Tes
26、t coupons or photographs showing failure modes for each test 5.2.3 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation and condition of the test coupons. 5.2.4 Adhesive, substrate and any chemicals used for bonding. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Navistar Corp
31、orate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the eve
32、nt that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center and Navistar Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data
33、indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and/or
34、report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallu
35、rgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing, and identification shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std.
