5、s of three types of preformed sealant patches. All types will be supplied in precut shapes and sizes as described on the engineering drawing. When applicable, mass per unit area* (See Section 3.1), will also be specified on the engineering drawing. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general req

6、uirements, property and performance requirements, quality, source approval and quality control. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE

7、 DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following Specifications, Standards, and Regulations are referenced in this specification. A-16 SAE J912 ASTM D2247 NAVISTAR CEMS B-50 SAE J1679 ASTM G53 NAVISTAR TMS-9543 3.1 Description of types 3.1.1 Type I: This is an extrudable EPDM based sealer to be used in conjunction with mechanical

9、fastening devices such as bolts, studs, rivets, stamped nuts, etc., and is intended to serve as a sealant against moisture, dust and air intrusion. 3.1.2 Type II: This is a constrained layer, elastomeric-based sealant patch used on body panels or drain hole cover plates to bridge and seal openings i

10、n cab construction. 12、sion through cab openings. 3.1.3 Type III: This type is an extrudable, pressure sensitive, mastic used as a noise and vibration dampening constraining layer. It also possesses a minimum, mass per unit area*, sufficient to provide noise and vibration dampening. 3.1.4 Type IV: Same as Type I, but havi

13、ng a mastic/pressure-sensitive-adhesive (PSA) backing. 3.1.5 * Definition: as used herein the term, Mass per Unit Area*, is defined as the product of, the material density and (part) thickness and is numerically equal to the weight or mass of the part divided by its surface area. It is intended to p

14、rovide a minimum and consistent level of sound attenuation for each part or sealant patch. 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The materials shall be smooth and homogenous mixtures, free of air, lumps, unmixed particles and foreign materials. They will be compatible with all INTERNATIONAL paint shop operations

15、. In all cases, the bonded adhesive strength shall exceed the cohesive strength of the sealant. 4.0.1 Type I however these values may be adjusted to meet mass requirements 4.1.3. 4.1.3 Mass per Unit Area* (Types II & III only) The mass per unit area* will be specified on the engineering drawing. Mas

16、s per unit area* must be reported by the supplier at time of initial material submission for approval and shall thereafter be maintained within 10% of approved sample value. APRIL 2009 Page 3 of 7 4.1.4 Odor It shall be the suppliers responsibility to determine that the constituent materials and finished product are deemed to be non-objectionable and meet all safety standards. 4.1.5 Compatibility With Sheet Metal Processing Lubricants (Type II & II

19、I only) 4.1.5.1 Method: Prepare panels for adhesion testing as per TMS-6815 using approved lubricants. After coated panel has dried for 24 hours, apply a 15 cm long section of the extrusion to the panel. Age the panel for 30 minutes at 204 C and let cool. 4.1.5.2 Required: The adhesion shall be grea

20、ter than the cohesive strength of the material when an attempt is made to peel or strip the extrusion from the prepared panel. 4.1.6 Penetration 4.1.6.1 Method: ASTM D5 Penetration Method, 100g T.M.L., 5 sec, 25 1 C 4.1.6.2 Required: 2.0 15.0 mm 4.1.7. High Temperature Stability 4.1.7.1 Method: Prep

21、are five production representative samples and age as described in Table 1 for body, paint shop or trim line applications. Heat age samples in a mechanical convection oven for 336 hr at 70 2 C. 4.1.7.2 Required: Material shall not flow, crack, and show loss of flexibility or other indications of deg

22、radation. Additionally, material shall not shrink greater than 5%. 4.1.8 Low Temperature Stability 4.1.8.1 Method: Prepare five production representative samples and age as described in Table 1 for body shop, paint shop or trim line applications. Age samples for 336 hr at -29 2 C. 4.1.8.2 Required:

23、Material shall not crack or show other indications of degradation. 4.1.9 Environmental Aging (Type I & IV only) 4.1.9.1 Method: Perform 250 hours QUV-B (FS40 bulbs) test as per ASTM G53. Cycle = 8 h UV 60 2 C 4 h dark condensing humidity 50 2 C repeat cycle for test duration. 4.1.9.2 Required: Mater

24、ial shall not flow, crack, show loss of flexibility, show loss of sealing capabilities, or other indications of degradation. Additionally, sealant shall cause no discoloration to painted surfaces and compare favorably with the adjoining painted metal surface where no sealant has been applied. 4.1.10

25、 Corrosion (Type I & II only) 4.1.10.1 Method: Prepare five production representative samples and age as described in Table 1 for body shop, paint shop or trim line applications. Test per ASTM B117 salt spray test for 240 hours. 4.1.10.2 Required: Material shall not flow, crack, show loss of flexibi

26、lity, show loss of sealing capabilities, or other indications of degradation. 28、 Test per SAE J912. Expose samples for 72 hours at 54 C under 500g load. 4.1.11.2 Required: The material shall show no evidence of adhering, exuding or permanent damage upon rapid separation. 4.1.12 Product Application (Type II & III only) The product shall adhere to metal, paint, e-coat, or plastic

29、 surfaces at temperatures between 16-38C. 4.1.13 Staining (Type II & III only) 4.1.13.1 Method: Apply sealant on a typical steel or aluminum test panel and spray paint as per CEMS. G-5, Grade -19 (white) and cure paint for 30 minutes at 121 C. Subject panel to 250 hours of simulated weathering per A

30、STM G-53, using the following repetitive cycle: 8 hours UV (UVB-FS40) at 60 C 4 hours condensing humidity at 50 C 4.1.13.2 Required: Sealant shall cause no discoloration to the painted surface and shall compare favorably with the painted adjoining metal surface where no sealant has been applied 4.1.

31、14 Peel Adhesion (Type II & III only) 4.1.14.1 Method: A minimum of five samples shall be tested at each condition. Apply a 25 x 100mm sealant patch on a 100 x 300mm panel. Roll to ensure minimum 90% wet out. Subject panel to bake schedules as listed in Table 1 for body, paint shop or trim line appl

32、ications. Test one set prior to bake schedules to ensure adequate green strength. Expose panels to the following environmental conditions: As Prepared 240 h Humidity ASTM D2247 240 h Salt Spray ASTM B117 240 h Water Immersion 38 2C 4.1.14.1.1 Allow samples to condition at 23 2C for two hours. Perfor

33、m 900 peel adhesion at a speed of 300mm per minute per SAE J1679. 4.1.14.2 Required: 66N/25mm width or cohesive failure of the material. Additionally, the material shall not slump or run. 4.1.15 Torque Loss (Type I & II only) This test shall only be conducted if torque loss is of concern when using

34、a Type I bolt sleeve material. 4.1.15.1 Method: Prepare five bolt assemblies with sealant sleeve and five bolt assemblies without sealant sleeve. Install bolts onto nuts and record static torque applied to the nuts. Recheck torque after 24 hours. 4.1.15.2 Required: Torque loss measurement shall depe

35、nd on the application of the bolt/nut assembly. Final torque value shall not be less that the torque value specified on the engineering installation. 4.1.16 Composite Loss (Type III only) Material shall meet the minimum composite loss factor for vibration dampening as specified on the engineering pr

APRIL 2009 Page 5 of 7 4.2 Process Compatibility Preformed sealant patches, when applied to the cab prior to paint operations, shall remain in plac

38、e and be compatible with the pre-treat and e-coat system of the using plant as required under TMS-9013. It shall be the suppliers responsibility to work with E-coat primer and pretreatment suppliers to determine that the sealant patches will not cause contamination of these process baths. 4.2.1 Tran

39、sference Additionally, material satisfying the requirements of Types II and III, after application, shall not be transferred to tools or operators boots when walked upon inside cab. 4.3 Shelf Life This product shall have a minimum shelf life of 120 days when stored at ambient conditions away from di

40、rect sources of sunlight and moisture. 5.0 QUALIFICATION Material and processes submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following: 5.1 A detailed, signed test report documenting testing to this specification prepared per TMS-9543. 5.2 Test coupons or photographs showing failur

41、e modes for each test. 5.3 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation and condition of the test coupons. 5.4 Sealant patch materials, substrates and any chemicals used for bonding. 5.5 Questions regarding qualification requirements, report

42、s and test materials may be directed to: Manager of Non-Metallic Materials Materials Engineering and Technology Truck Development and Technology Center PO Box 1109 Fort Wayne, IN 46801 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be

43、 registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited regis

44、trar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples, which were approved by the purchaser. No changes

45、in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering at TDTC and Purchasing and Supplier Developmen

46、t, of the proposed change(s). APRIL 2009 Page 6 of 7 new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform or report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-1
