、 H.248.34 (02/2012) i Recommendation ITU-T H.248.34 Gateway control protocol: Stimulus analogue line package Summary Recommendation ITU-T H.248.34 describes a stimulus analogue line package that defines new ITU-T H.248 events, signals and parameters derived from the V5 PSTN protocol defined in Recom
、mendation ITU-T G.964. To assist both vendors and operators in migrating V5 local exchange and access network nodes to a next generation network (NGN) media gateway (MG) and media gateway controller (MGC) architecture, the package provides guidelines for mapping the V5 PSTN protocol to the “stimulus
、 analogue line“ package, other TU-T H.248 packages and the ITU-T H.248.1 protocol. This revision clarifies dialling method indications, implements a syntactical correction of steady state signal “reversed polarity“ (see Table 6) and corrects the V5 digit-signal information element mapping (Table I.2

ITU-T H.248.34 (02/2012) FOREWORD The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency in the field of telecommunications, information
、and communication technologies (ICTs). The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is a permanent organ of ITU. ITU-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide
、basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T study groups which, in turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of ITU-T Recommendations is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSA Re
、solution 1. In some areas of information technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with ISO and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness to indicate both a telecommunication administrati
、on and a recognized operating agency. Compliance with this Recommendation is voluntary. However, the Recommendation may contain certain mandatory provisions (to ensure, e.g., interoperability or applicability) and compliance with the Recommendation is achieved when all of these mandatory provisions
、are met. The words “shall“ or some other obligatory language such as “must“ and the negative equivalents are used to express requirements. The use of such words does not suggest that compliance with the Recommendation is required of any party. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS ITU draws attention to the
、possibility that the practice or implementation of this Recommendation may involve the use of a claimed Intellectual Property Right. ITU takes no position concerning the evidence, validity or applicability of claimed Intellectual Property Rights, whether asserted by ITU members or others outside of
、the Recommendation development process. As of the date of approval of this Recommendation, ITU had not received notice of intellectual property, protected by patents, which may be required to implement this Recommendation. However, implementers are cautioned that this may not represent the latest in

、e plain old telephone service (POTS) lines which can, for example, be used to host telephones, analogue private branch exchanges (PBXs) and turn-key systems. The signals and events defined in the package are stimulus in nature and enable the full set of POTS services that are delivered via a V5 loca
、l exchange (LE) and access network (AN) to be ubiquitously provided in a next generation network (NGN) MG and MGC architecture. NOTE The use of the Call Finished signal is a national option. It is included as part of a joint text with ETSI. In normal circumstances, the national specific functionalit

The use of the Call Finished signal shall not compromise existing ITU-T H.248 procedures. 2 References The following ITU-T Recommendations and other references contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Recommend

ITU-T H.248.34 (02/2012) 3 Definitions This Recommendation defines the following terms: 3.1 access network (AN): A system implemented between the local exchange (LE) and user, replacing part or the whole of the local line distribution network. 3.2
、 local exchange (LE): An exchange on which user lines are terminated via an access network (AN). 3.3 V5: A general term for the family of V interfaces for connection of ANs to the LE, e.g., a V5.1 interface or a V5.2 interface. 4 Abbreviations and acronyms This Recommendation uses the following abbr

、Division Multiplex 5 Conventions None. 6 Stimulus Analogue Line Package Package name: Stimulus Analogue Line Package Package ID: stimal (0x0093) Description: This package defines all the stimulus events and signals necessary for controlling an analogue line. This analogue line package is different f
、rom other ITU-T H.248 analogue line packages, because the analogue signals and events that are exchanged between the MGC and the MG are stimulus rather than functional in nature. The stimulus approach enables the MG to be transparent to the underlying service being delivered by the MGC and also does
、 not unduly restrict the types of services that may be delivered to an analogue line. The ITU-T H.248 signals and events have been derived from the V5 PSTN protocol signals defined in ITU-T G.965, ITU-T G.964. This approach enables the MGC to support the same type of services and capabilities as the
、 existing PSTN network. Rec. ITU-T H.248.34 (02/2012) 3 NOTE Unlike an AN as defined in ITU-T G.964 and ITU-T G.965, an ITU-T H.248 MG has the capability to detect in-band (e.g., DTMF) signals, generate local tones and announcements and generate frequency-shift keying (FSK) tones for caller display
、purposes. Control of these capabilities is provided by other packages in the ITU-T H.248 series of Recommendations. The stimulus analogue line package is a superset package that defines the full repertoire of signals and events. A particular PSTN national authority may support a subset of the signal
