、d B107D (Revision of Test Method B107C) TEST METHOD B107D MARK PERMANENCY (From JEDEC Board Ballot JCB-11-19, formulated under the cognizance of the JC-14.1 Subcommittee on Reliability Test Methods for Packaged Devices.) 1 Scope The tests mentioned herein are applicable for all package types. They a

、re suitable for use in qualification and/or process monitor testing. The mechanical shear test (tape test) is recommended as an ongoing process monitor or lot acceptance test. Electrical or mechanical rejects may be used for these tests. NOTE 1 This procedure does not apply to laser marked packages.

、 NOTE 2 The formulation of solvents herein is considered typical and representative of the desired stringency as far as the usual coatings and marks are concerned. Many available solvents that could be used are either insufficiently active, too stringent, or even dangerous to humans when in direct c

、ontact or when the fumes are inhaled. NOTE 3 These tests should be considered a destructive test unless determined to be non destructive by previous evaluation. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the marks on solid state semiconductor devices will remain legible (as defined per JESD22B

、-114) when subjected to the application and removal of labels or the use of solvents and cleaning solutions commonly used during the removal of solder flux residue from the printed circuit board manufacturing process. 2 References Normative Reference JESD22B-114, Mark Legibility. 18、hols, etc., or any equivalent EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) approved, HCFC (Hydrochlorofluorocarbon), terpene or demonstrated equivalent maintained at a temperature of 20 C to 30 C. 3.3 Solvent solution “C” At 63 C to 70 C, a mixture consisting of the following: 1) 42 parts by volume of deio

、nized water. 2) One part by volume of propylene glycol monomethyl ether (laboratory reagent grade). 3) One part by volume of monoethanolamine (laboratory reagent grade). NOTE Normal safety precautions for handling this solution (e.g., same as those for diluted ammonium hydroxide) based on OSHA (Offi

Rules for monethanolamine or other precautionary measures with regard to flash point, toxicity, etc. 3.4 Brush The brush shall be a toothbrush with a handle made of a nonreactive material. The brush shall have at least three long rows of hard bristles, the free

The toothbrush shall be used exclusively with a single solvent and when there is any evidence of softening, bending, wear, or loss of bristles, it shall be replaced. 26、ns Solvent solutions listed in this document exhibit some potential health, environment, and safety hazards. The following safety requirements and precautions are to be followed at all times. a) Always work under a well-vented hood. Avoid inhalation of vapors at all times. b) Safety glasses/eye prot

、ection and solvent-resistant gloves must be worn at all times while performing this test. c) Solutions are to be kept in covered vessels at all times when not in direct use. d) Avoid contact with skin or eyes, and exposure to open flames or hot surfaces. e) When using EPA approved alternative soluti

、ons for test the device manufacturer should consider the recommended temperature for cleaning specified by the solvent supplier. 6 Procedures 6.1 Solvents Test 1) Label the three vessels, three brushes, and three tweezers, A, B, and C. Divide the test specimens into three equal groups and fill the t

、hree vessels with the appropriate solutions A, B, and C respectively. 2) Each test group, along with a brush, shall be totally immersed for one minute in each of the solutions. 3) At the end of the exposure time, the specimens shall be removed from each solution and brushed with normal pressure for

、ten strokes in a forward direction on the portion of the specimen where marking has been applied with the brush specified above. The brush stroke for solvent-resistance testing is with normal hand pressure, approximately 57 to 85 grams (2 3 ounces). 4) At the conclusion of the brushing, place the de

、vices and the brush back into the vessel of the appropriate solution. 5) Repeat the procedure above until a total of three immersions and brushings have occurred. 6) Following the third immersion and brushing, rinse the specimens with deionized water, place them on a clean surface, and allow them to

、 dry at room temperature for a minimum of five minutes before inspection. JEDEC Standard No. 22-B107D Page 5 Test Method B107D (Revision of Test Method B107C) 6 Procedure (contd) 6.2 Tape Pull Test 1) Obtain marked devices and ensure the ink has been cured. The parts should be at room temperature an

、d the surfaces should be clean and dry. 2) Place devices mark side up onto the conductive foam mat to provide ESD protection. 3) Remove the tape from the dispenser at a continuous rate as opposed to jerking the tape. The amount of tape should be sufficient to cover the marked area of the device. 4)

、Place the tape over the marked portion of one device. 5) Use firm finger pressure to ensure that the entire surface of the marked area is in contact with the tape. Ensure all bubbles are removed from under the tape. NOTE If the entire surface of the marked area is not covered, then use two pieces of

、 tape. 6) Lift the tape off the device in one continuous pull at approximately 2 cm/s and at approximately a 90 angle to the device under test. 7) Observe the mark on the device to see if any portion of the mark came off with the tape. 8) Repeat Section 6.2 again for a total of 3 times. (See also 7.

、2) 7 Failure criteria 7.1 Solvents Test After subjection to the test, the device marks shall be examined using the mark legibility test method defined in JESD22B-114. If the device shows no evidence of damage, and the marks of all test samples meet the legibility requirements specified in JESD22B-11

、4, then the device has passed the mark permanency test for solvents. 7.2 Tape Pull Test The Tape Pull Test must be done three times on each device before determining whether the “Mark Permanency Test” passed or failed. After subjection to the 3X tape pull test, the device marks shall be examined usi

、ng the mark legibility test method defined in JESD22B-114. If none of the mark on the device comes off after three tape pulls on all sample devices, and the device marks meet the legibility requirements specified in JESD22B-114, then the device has passed the mark permanency test for tape pull.
