The first study to compare honesty across a range of communications media has found that people are twice as likely to tell lies in phone conversations as they are in E-mails. The fact that E-mails are automatically recorded an

In it they noted the number of conversations or E-mail exchanges they had lasting more than 10 minutes, and confes

He found that lies made up 14 percent of E-mails, 21 percent of instant messages, 27 percent of face-to-face interactions and an astonishing 37 percent of phone calls. His results, to be prese

Some expected E-mails to be the biggest liars, reasoning that because deception makes people uncomfortable, the detachment(非直接接触) of emailing would make it easier to lie. Others expected

37、people to lie more in face-to-face exchanges because we are most practiced at that form of communication. But Hancock says it is also crucial whether a conversation is being recorded and could be reread, and whether it occurs in real time. People appear to be afraid to lie when they know the communic

This is why fewer lies appear in E-mail than on the phone.People are also more likely to lie in real timein an instant message or phone call, saythan if they have time to think of a response, says Hancock. He found many lies are spontaneous

For instance, the phone might be the best medium for sales where employees are encouraged to stretch the truth. But gi

In the last there lived humans, most animals, and all plants. This World, a round island resting on the surface of waters, was suspended from the sky by four cords attached to the island at the four cardinal points of the compass. Lines drawn to connect the

46、opposite points of the compass, from north to south and from east to west, intersected This World to divide it into four wedge-shaped segments. Thus a symbolic representation of the human world was a cross within a circle, the cross representing the intersecting lines and the circle the shape of Thi

According to Cherokee doctrine, east was associated with the color red because it was the direction of the Sun, the greatest deity of all. Red was also the color of fire, believed to be directly connected with the Sun, with blood, a

So its color was black, North was the direction of cold, and so its color was blue (sometimes purple), and it represented trouble and defeat. So

This World hovered somewhere between the perfect order and predictability of the Upper World and the total disorder and instability of the Lower World. The goal was to find
