All tips should be evaluated prior to testing under a microscope to insure the surfaces are intact and free of defects or evidence of deterioration. If a tip i

Each tip should be pre-loaded with the following weights: Scratch finger number: 1 7.0 N 2 6.0 N 3 4.5 N 4 3.0 N 5 2.0 N Sample plaques should be molded in color a minimum of 300 mm in length. Measure the loading forces on each pin using a spring balance; adjust the weights to insure the correct forces are applied on the surface of the sample.

14、 Push the fingers, one at a time, across the sample plaque at an approximate rate of 100 mm per second. Each scratch line should be approximately 200 mm in length, or two seconds per scratch. Indicate the direction of the movement on the sample. Repeat the scratch test on a minimum of three test sam

15、ples. 4.1.3 Sample Evaluation: Perform both a visual and microscopic analysis of the scratches. Visually evaluate the sample by holding the sample under natural lighting. Tilt the sample back and forth in hands until the scratches appear the widest and most visible. Qualitatively rate the middle sec

16、tions of the scratches on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 is no scratch at all; 5 is a severe scratch). Additionally take a digital picture of the scratched sample plaque and submit to Navistar Engineering. Microscopic evaluation should also be performed following the visual evaluation. The sample should be he

Average the measured widths for the three repeats and report the average width to Navistar Engineering along with the visual results. 4.2 Test Method B: Erichsen Scratch and Mar Test

The test should be repeated three times for each load creating separate scratch screens. 4.2.3 Sample Evaluation: Each scratch screen should be evaluated in five locations: one in the center and four in the corners. A spectrophotometer that meets ISO 7724 should be used for analysis. Measure

24、 the luminance of each screen immediately following the scratch test. All spectrophotometer measurements shall be taken with the specular component excluded (SPE) with D65 diffused light and a 27 mm diameter restrictor at a measurement angle of d/8. The plaques should be tested for medium brilliancy

The measurements taken at each of the five locations per screen should be averaged and reported to Navistar Design and Materials Engineering. 5.0 TECHNICAL INFORMATION For further information related to the technical content of this specification, contact: Suppliers may purchase controlled copies of this specification by contacting: Materials Engineering and Technology Dept. 10400 W.
