4、o use. 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers two types of gun grade sealers compounded of polymerized butyl elastomer and resins. These sealer types are generally used as joint sealers on the fire wall and/or in cab body joints of steel and/or aluminum cabs. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers g

5、eneral requirements, composition, physical properties, source approval and quality control. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DO

6、CUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following standards, specifications and regulations are referenced in this specification. Quality System Standard ISO 9001 or TS-16949 MPAPS B-50 MPAPS G-9013 CFR Title 29, Section 1910 FMVSS 302 MPAPS

A-16 SAE J250 MPAPS P-9543 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Description The material is a one-part sealant containing butyl rubber, which produces a tough rubbery seal that retains its adhesion and flexib

8、ility throughout its service life. Type I is a UV stable sealant. Type II is not UV stable and is intended for use only in those applications where UV stability is not a requirement. APRIL 2017 Page 2 of 4 4.2 Composition This material shall be compounded with a minimum of 80% solids, made up of polymerized

10、butyl elastomer, resins, inert pigment and fibers, with the addition of solvents as required. Materials intended for use prior to entering the top-coat booth shall not contain any chemicals that may adversely affect the paint application process. 4.3 Physical Properties 4.3.1 Consistency Shall be a

11、smooth paste that is easily dispensable at 21C (70F) and above, being capable of application from a drum with a follower plate. 4.3.2 Viscosity 4.3.2.1 Method: Pressure Flow Method per SAE J243. 4.3.2.2 Required: Report value. 4.3.3 Shrinkage 4.3.3.1 Method: Fill a metal cylinder 47.6 mm (1-7/8 in)

12、diameter and 12.7 mm (1/2 in) deep and test aged 96 hours at 82C (180F). Perform in triplicate. 4.3.3.2 Required: There shall be only slight concavity in center mass and shall not pull away from edge of the cylinder. 4.3.4 Service Temperature Shall remain flexible and show no loss of adhesion or cra

13、cking when exposed to service conditions of -29 to 82C (-20 to 180F). 4.3.4.1 Cold Resistance 4.3.4.1.1 Method: Methods 1 and 2 per SAE J250 performed at -40C. Perform in triplicate. 4.3.4.1.2 Required: Shall not crack, show signs of embrittlement or loss of adhesion. 4.3.4.2 Heat Stability 4.3.4.2.

14、1 Method: Stability Method 2 per SAE J250 applied to a painted panel. 4.3.4.2.2 Required: Shall not flow, crack, leach oil, lose adhesion, or emit offensive odors. 4.3.5 Water resistance 4.3.5.1 Method: Apply to a painted panel. Immerse separate panels vertically in water and 5% Sodium Chloride solu

15、tion 72C for 24 hrs. 4.3.5.2 Required: Shall not lose adhesion or dissolve. 4.3.6 Sag 4.3.6.1 Method: Apply sample along centerline of E-coat primed panels in a 3 x 25 x 200 mm (1/8 x 1 x 8 in) bead. Scribe panels to mark initial material location. Incline panel at a 90 angle with bead horizontal an

16、d hold for 48 minutes at 25C (77F). Measure any movement from scribe. 4.3.6.2 Required: Sealant/adhesive will flow a maximum of 3mm (1/8in). 4.3.7 Aged Adhesion 4.3.7.1 Method: Aged adhesion per SAE J250, except substitute -40C for -29C (-20F) in the cycle. 4.3.7.2 Required: Shall fail cohesively, r

17、emain pliable, and shall not crack. 4.3.8 Odor Shall not emit any offensive odors during testing and during service. APRIL 2017 Page 3 of 4 4.4 Special Requirements 4.4.1 Oven temperature stability Required for materials intended to be applied prior to entering the top-coat booth. Material provided must be c

19、apable of withstanding oven temperatures experienced during paint bake cycles. 4.4.1.1 Method: Sag characteristics per SAE J250. Bake according to the nominal and over-bake production bake schedules. Perform in triplicate. 4.4.1.2 Required: Shall not sag, burst, or pull away from any of the metal su

20、rfaces. 4.4.2 Bleeding / Staining Required for materials intended to be applied over top-coat. 4.4.2.1 Method: Apply to separate panels painted with NAV9219 in MPAPS G-5 Grades 17HS, 18, and 19HS. Age at 60C for 3 weeks. 4.4.2.2 Required: Shall not cause stain or discoloration of the paint finish. 4

21、.4.3 Pre-Treat and E-coat systems compatibility Materials intended to be applied during the cab assembly process are required to meet MPAPS G-9013. 4.4.4 Weather Resistance - Type I Only 4.4.2.1 Method: Apply a 50mil film to two white panels painted with NAV9219. Expose the sealer to 500 hours of ac

22、celerated weathering per MPAPS GT-31 methods C and D. 4.4.2.2 Required: Shall show no evidence of crazing, cracking, loss of adhesion, ozone deterioration or bleed/stain the adjacent area. 5.0 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 5.1 Quality All product supplied shall be clean and free from dirt, oils, contamina

23、tion, or defects harmful to product performance. 5.2 Storage Life This material shall have a storage life of no less than 90 days when stored at temperatures less than 32C (90F) without thickening or having a deleterious effect on the performance of the product. Agreements must be made between the s

24、upplier and user as to satisfactory storage life of the material in the event longer storage periods or special storage environments are required. 5.3 Qualification Approval Material and processes submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following: 5.3.1 A detailed, signed test

25、 report documenting testing to this specification per MPAPS P-9543. 5.3.2 Test coupons or photographs showing failure modes for each test. 5.3.3 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation and condition of the test coupons. 5.3.4 Adhesive,

26、substrate and any chemicals used for bonding. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill al

27、l AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request. 29、ied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processin

30、g practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center and Navistar Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this

31、 specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and/or report results of tests on specific lots of parts

32、produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the us
