Class 9.8 is acceptable to assure maximum material availability in North America. Designing to Class 8.8 assures material
10、availability and interchangeability worldwide. Coarse thread series only will be considered as part of this standard, because of the following advantages: Less tendency to cross thread. Resists nicking and has less stress concentration at the thread roots. Less likely to be seriously affected by dec
11、arburization and oversize minor diameter of internal threads. 4.0 METRIC-INCH RELATED SIZES: During the inch to metric design transition period, the following chart of related sizes can be used for reference. For standard diameter length combinations of bolts, the values for Lg max are specified in Table 1. For diameter length combinations not listed in

JUNE 2015 Page 6 of 8 one decimal place, will be equal to the nominal bolt length, L, minus the basic thread length, B, as specified in Table 2 (Lg max = L - B). Lg max will be used as a criterion for inspection.
35、 Body length, Ls min, is the distance, measured parallel to the axis of the bolt, from .the under the head bearing surface to the last scratch of thread or top of the extrusion angle, whichever is closest to the head. For standard diameter length combinations of bolts, the values of Ls min are speci

For diameter length combinations not listed in Table 1, the minimum body length, as calculated and rounded to one decimal place, will be equal to the maximum grip gaging length as computed minus the maximum transition thread length as specified in Table 2 (Ls min = Lg. max - X max).
37、 Ls min will be used as a criterion for inspection. Bolts of nominal lengths equal to or shorter than L 1, specified in Table 2, will be threaded full length. For bolts which are threaded full length, Lg. max will be as specified in Table 2. Basic thread length, B, as specified in Table 2 is a refer
38、ence dimension intended for calculation purposes only, and is the distance, measured parallel to the axis of the bolt, from the extreme end of the bolt to the last complete (full form) thread. Transition thread length, X max, as specified in Table 2 is a reference dimension intended for calculation
39、purposes only. It includes the length of incomplete threads and tolerances on grip gaging length and body length. The transition from full thread to incomplete threads will be smooth and uniform. The major diameter of the incomplete threads will not exceed the actual major diameter of the complete (
40、full form) threads. For bolts of property class 10.9 and higher strength materials (tensile strength 1040 MPa and higher), the transition threads will have a rounded root contour no radius of which will be less than the specified minimum radius at the root of the full form thread.
