9、2 of 7 3.0 DESIGN CONSIDERATION: Spring pins provide a low-cost and effective method of assembly where the loads imposed on the fastener are principally in shear. Design conditions which impose a vibration component in a direction parallel to the axis of the pin should be avoided. If the final assem

10、bly will be subjected to vibrations, testing of prototype assemblies is recommended. The selection of a pin size, its length and its location should be based on a careful analysis of the shear loads. The shear plane of the pin should be located at a minimum distance of one diameter from the end of t

11、he pin to prevent any premature failure. In many assemblies, it is desirable that the pin fail before the shafts or couplings with which they are being used. In soft metals, ultimate failure may depend more upon the strength of the hole material than upon shear strength of the spring pin. Under incr

12、eased load, hole edges are deformed by compressive forces. The effect of gap orientation on slotted spring pin shear strength is that random slot positioning is satisfactory for all but the most extreme slotted spring pin applications. For special applications maximum shear strength is assured by in

13、serting the slotted spring pin so the gap is in line with the direction of the load. Spring pins can usually be operated satisfactorily in excess of the permissible operating temperatures of the members in which they are inserted. However, for special applications the following values may be taken a

14、s safe limits before the physical properties of the spring pins are substantially altered. Carbon Steel 260C. 17、2015 by Navistar, Inc. JUNE 2015 Page 3 of 7 5.0 COLOR CODING: Not recommended, except in cases where adequate insurance is needed to prevent mixing of “metric parts” with look-alike “inch parts”. The color blue is standard identifier used in some industries. This must be handled internally at indiv

18、idual plants where needed and is meant to be supplemental to the normal finish and easily deleted when the need for supplemental identification no longer exists. The supplemental blue color should not be used on finishes such as chromium bright which are specified for cosmetic purposes, or phosphate

19、 coating which causes a loss of color identity. 6.0 METHOD OF DESIGNATION: Spring pins will be designated on purchase orders by size, length, word description, finish, material, and part number as follows: 8 x 10 mm, Slotted Spring Pin, Heavy, Plain, HTS, Part Number 10 x 24 mm. Coiled Spring Pin, H

HTS, Part Number 7.0 POLICY FOR SELECTING PARTS FOR NEW DESIGN: Approved parts are so designated to reduce variety of parts and assure maximum availability, interchangeability, and cost savings. Slotted Heavy Duty Series: (Non preferred) For high static shear loads in higher strength materials. Coiled Heavy Duty Series: For high static

25、 shear loads in higher strength materials. 33、d disassemble with light to moderate force when used with the recommended hole sizes without significant deformation to either pins or holes. Assembled pins will withstand the minimum double shear loads as specified in the dimensional tables. Spring pins will withstand the minimum double shear loads

34、 specified in the dimensional tables when tested in accordance with the following procedure: The shear test will be performed in a fixture in which the pin support members and the member for applying the load will have holes of a diameter conforming to the recommended hole size for the pins being te

35、sted and will have a Rockwell hardness of C58 or equivalent. The clearance between the supporting members and the loading member will not exceed 0.1 mm and the shear plane will be at least one diameter away from each end of the pin. Pins will be located so that the slot is approximately at right ang

36、les to the line of application of the load. The speed of load application will not exceed 12 mm per minute. Pins too short to be tested in double shear will be tested by shearing two pins simultaneously in single shear. Spring pins which have been tested for shear strength will show a ductile shear

37、without longitudinal cracks. Typical spring pin shear test fixtures are illustrated below: 14.0 FINISHES: Spring pins will be supplied plain, plated, or coated in accordance with the MPAPS and class listed below: Zinc Trivalent, Class 6A (ZN6A) MPAPS G-20, Class 6A Phosphate Coating (PHC) MPAPS G-1,

38、 Class B-2 High tensile strength steel components such as spring pins are more susceptible to embrittlement by hydrogen. Therefore, electroplating is not recommended for these products. 40、pin must be heated at a temperature sufficiently high and for a period sufficiently long to remove the hydrogen. 15.0 RESTRICTED CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES: Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specific
