、mensions of single and double 37 flares on tubing for use in conjunction with the 37 flared type fittings and dimensions for straight thread “O“ Ring bosses into which connector and adjustable styles of hydraulic tube fittings assemble are given in EM-16. The specification for “O“ Ring seals used in

、 such assemblies are given in MPAPS S-S-1.101-GS/PL. The tabulated dimensions will apply to the finished fittings, plated or otherwise processed, as specified by the purchaser. The maximum and minimum across flat dimensions will be within the commercial tolerance of bar or extruded stock from which

、the fittings are produced. The minimum across comers dimensions of hexagons will be 1.092 times the nominal width across flats, but will not result in a side flat width less than .43 times the nominal width across flats. Tolerances on all dimensions not otherwise limited will be plus or minus .016 i

、nch. Fitting seats must be concentric with straight thread pitch diameters within .010 inch full indicator movement (FIM). Where so illustrated and not otherwise specified, hexagon corners will be chamfered 15-20 degrees to a diameter equal to the nominal width across flats, with a minus tolerance o

、f .016 inch; or where design permits, corners may be chamfered to the diameter of the abutting surface providing the length of chamfer does not exceed that produced by the 20 degrees chamfer previously described. 17、HT THREADS: Unified Standard, Class 2A, external threads and Class 2B, internal threads with modified minor diameters where specified, will apply to plain finish (unplated) fittings of all types. For externally threaded parts with additive finish, the maximum diameters of Class 2A may be exceeded by

、 the amount of the allowances; that is, the basic diameters (Class 2A maximum diameters plus the allowance) will apply after plating. For internally threaded parts with additive finish, the Class 2B diameters and modified minor diameters apply after plating. The pitch diameter tolerance will be the

、same as the corresponding diameter-pitch combination and class of the Unified fine and 12 thread series. See SAE J475. 23、ll fittings that have external pipe threads will be furnished with a pre-applied sealant coating on the pipe threads that meets the requirements CEMS D-31. 10.0 MATERIAL: This standard covers hydraulic tube fittings made from carbon steel, stainless steel, and brass. Regardless of which material is

Flareless type ferrules will be made from SAE 1010, 1112, 1113, or 12L14 steel, case hardened Class 3 or 3A, MPAPS A-40,

、 Section A. Carbon steel fittings fabricated from multiple pieces are permissible. These fabricated assemblies are subject to the same manufacturing considerations and performance criteria cited above. Therefore, if fabrication involves welding, vendors must recognize that the free machining steels

、of Code 0-115 possess inherent welding limitations that may preclude the manufacture of acceptable welded fittings on a consistent basis. Consequently, for welded fittings, the use of steels meeting the minimum expected yield strength of Code 0-115, but with 0.23% carbon maximum, 1.00% Dimensions in

JUNE 2015 Page 6 of 35 16.0 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: To assure proper installation and performance of fittings, the following instructions are provided herein for the guida

、nce of the user: 1. Assembly of Flareless Hydraulic Tube Fittings: The following instructions will apply to the assembly of hydraulic tube fitting of the flareless type shown in section 17.0. Inasmuch as proper makeup of these connections depends largely upon the securing of the ferrule on the tube

、by the cutting action of the sharp edge on the ferrule biting into the tube wall, it is recommended these procedures be adhered to in the assembly operation: 1.1 Tube end will be cut square and the inside and outside edges deburred (not excessively). 1.2 The ferrule and threads on fitting body and n

、ut will be lubricated with oil or petrolatum. Nut will be assembled over tube with open end out and the ferrule will be slid over tube with cutting edge out and the large head end inside the nut. Tube end will then be inserted into fitting. 1.3 Tube will be bottomed in seat of fitting and the nut ti

、ghtened until the ferrule just grips the tube. A little experience will enable the user to determine this point by feel. Where the fittings are bench assembled, the gripping action may be determined by hand rotating the tube as the nut is drawn down. When the tube can no longer be turned by hand. th

、e ferrule has started to grip the tube. 1.4 After the ferrule has gripped the tube, the nut will be tightened one full turn. (This may vary slightly with different tubing materials, but provides a rule of thumb for general practice.) 1.5 The connection will then be disassembled and the seating of fe

、rrules inspected. Though the two styles of ferrules have similar principles of make-up and application, the inspection characteristics of their seating on the tube are somewhat different. For the Style A ferrule. the bite or cut into the tube wall can be readily seen since it occurs at the lead edge

、 of the ferrule. The bite into the tube will show a definite groove where the ferrule has cut into the tube and peeled the metal over the lead edge of the ferrule. See Figure 5.
