Reference: File 03-1 Keywords: Spring Pins; case hardened steel; 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers steel bar, case hardened to produce a strong, wear resistant

5、 shaft suitable for use as spring pins. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the requirements for material, heat treatment, and microstructure. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective JANUARY 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirement

6、s of CEMS B-50. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following standards, specifications and regulations are referenced in this specification. Quality System Standard ISO 9001 or TS-16949 NAVISTAR CEMS A-0, Part I CFR Title

7、 29, Part 1910 NAVISTAR CEMS A-40 NAVISTAR Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13 NAVISTAR CEMS A-52 NAVISTAR CEMS B-50 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Material Steel supplied must meet minimum cleanliness requirements for Quality Level I as per CEMS A-0, Part I, and shall be fully killed, fine grain steel. Steel sele

8、ction is dependent upon part diameter and heat treat practice and is frequently affected by availability considerations. Care must be taken to assure that the material selected is capable of meeting all the requirements of this specification in the heat treated condition. 4.1.1 Strand Cast Steel App

9、roval Strand casting is a more efficient and economical production practice and often provides a product with superior properties as compared to ingot cast steels. However, strand cast product available today is produced using a variety of casting equipment, steel practices, and reduction ratios, an

10、d the quality of the product is not consistent. For this reason, the use of strand cast steel is restricted. APRIL 2010 Page 2 of 3 Strand cast steel sources must be approved by Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center, prior to use. 4.2 Heat Treatment Parts shall be carburized, hardened and tempered to a s

12、urface hardness of Rockwell 57-63 HRC. Minimum tempering temperature shall be 325F (163C). Effective case depth (on the fully machined part) shall be 0.50-1.25 mm (0.022-0.048 in) measured, after tempering, to a Rockwell hardness of 50 HRC (Class 30-35 per CEMS A-40, Section A). 4.3 Microstructure M

13、icrostructure of the case shall consist essentially of martensite and austenite and shall meet the limitations on carbides, intergranular oxides and bainite as per CEMS A-40, Section A. 4.4 Grinding Quality The surface of the ground pin shall exhibit a Class A or Class B quality level as per CEMS A-

14、52. 5.0 QUALITY All product supplied shall be clean and free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmful to product performance. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAV

15、ISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificate

16、s to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without appro

17、val. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering at NAVISTAR Truck Development and Technology Center (TDTC) and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the propos

18、ed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shal

19、l either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier

20、and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION Loading, packing and identification shall be in accordance with Manufacturing Std. 24、l list of standard steels with sufficient hardenability to meet case depth and microstructural requirements: 5120H, PS65H, PS59H, PS16H, 8620H, 4320H, PS64H, PS15H, 8622H, PS19H, 8720H, 4621H, 8822H, 4820H. However, any other steel, including plain carbon steels, if quench severity is sufficient, may be used to produce the part providing that all requirements of this specification are met.
