5、ers material requirements for tapered roller bearings to be used in wheel end applications. The bearing steels covered by this specification may be of two types: Type 1 - Case hardened (carburized) Type 2 - Through-hardened 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers requirements for material, chemical comp

6、osition microstructure, dimensional tolerances, post-hardening treatments, design performance validation, quality, source approval/quality control, shipping, and identification. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specificati

7、on must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. 10、IL 2012 Page 2 of 5 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Material Steel for individual bearings will be selected on the basis of section size, hardenability, quench rate, furnace load factors, etc. Such selection to achieve optimum (minimum) properties in specific parts is the responsibility of the bearing manufact

11、urer. 4.1.1 Cups, Cones and Rollers The steel used shall be made by a process capable of providing a high quality product, shall be vacuum degassed, fully killed, made to fine grain practice, and shall meet quality tests, chemical composition, minimum steel cleanliness, grain size, hardenability, de

12、carburization, surface imperfection, microstructure and hardness requirements as described in ASTM A 534 for Carburizing Steels used in Type 1 bearings and ASTM A 295 for High Carbon Steels used in Type 2 bearings. Reduction ratio shall be 7:1 minimum. 4.1.2 Bearing Cages Open hearth, basic oxygen o

13、r electric furnace, ingot cast or strand cast, steel may be used for bearing cages. Unless otherwise specified, steel used for bearing cages will meet requirements of ASTM A 29, and steel cleanliness will meet requirements of CEMS A-0, Part I, Quality Level I. 4.2 Chemical Composition 4.2.1 Type 1 S

14、teels used for the rollers, cups, and cones of Type 1 bearings shall meet the general composition requirements for 4118H or 8620H steels or equivalent as described in ASTM A 534, or as agreed upon between NAVISTAR and the supplier. 4.2.2 Type 2 Steels used for the rollers, cups, and cones of Type 2

15、bearings shall meet the general composition requirements for 52100 steel or its equivalent as described in ASTM A 295, or as agreed upon between NAVISTAR and the supplier. 4.3 Microstructure 4.3.1. Type 1 Carburized bearings shall have a case microstructure consisting of a quenched and tempered high

16、 carbon martensite matrix. The amount of retained austenite in the case shall not exceed 30%. The core shall consist of low carbon martensite with various amounts of bainite and ferrite depending on steel selection. Inclusion rating shall be determined per ASTM E 45 Method A. The average of all spec

17、imens tested, as well as 67% of all specimens, will not exceed the rating specified in Table 1. 4.3.2 Type 2 Through-hardened bearings shall have a homogeneous microstructure consisting of fine, uniformly distributed carbides per ASTM A 892 in a lightly tempered martensitic matrix. The amount of ret

18、ained austenite shall not exceed 15%. Carbide size rating will not be greater than CS5; carbide network rating will not be greater than CN3; lamellar content will not be greater than LC1 per ASTM A 892. No decarburization or evidence of significant carbon depletion will be allowed. Inclusion rating

19、shall be determined per ASTM E 45 Method A. The average of all specimens tested, as well as 67% of all specimens, will not exceed the rating specified in Table 1. 21、2.0 1.0 0.5 0.5 1.0 1.0 4.4 Hardness 4.4.1 Type 1 Surface hardness for Type 1 bearing rollers, cups and cones shall be 58-64 HRC. Core hardness for Type 1 bearing rollers, cups and cones shall be 25 HRC minimum. 4.4.2 Type 2 Surface hardness for Type 2 bearings rollers cups and cones shall be 60-64

22、HRC. 4.5 Dimensional Tolerances 4.5.1 Critical dimensional tolerances of all cups, cones, rollers, and the assemblies thereof shall conform to requirements of ANSI/ABMA standards 19.1 and 19.2 unless otherwise specified by NAVISTAR. 4.5.2 Surface roughness on all finished bearing surfaces shall not

23、exceed an Ra value of 8 microinches. Rollers and cup and cone race surfaces shall be ground such that contact surfaces have a suitable crowned profile. Radius, parabolic and logarithmic profiles are acceptable, however, it is strongly recommended that cups and rollers be matched in terms of profile

24、type and height. The crown height shall be 160 microinches (4 microns) minimum. 4.6 Surface Defects Rollers, cups and cones for both Type 1 and Type 2 bearings shall be free from cracks, pipes, pits, scratches, seams, laps, rust, decarburization and indications of soft spots visible under microscopi

25、c inspection. 4.7 Design and Validation 4.7.1 Design Life 4.7.1.1 Theoretical life calculations based on required loads and duty cycles (as given by Navistar Engineering) will be provided by supplier for approval by Engineering. 4.7.1.2 Supplier will provide for approval by Navistar Engineering a co

26、mparison of the theoretical life calculations to actual bench testing for correlation of dynamic load ratings. 4.7.2 Validation The design is to meet the commercially reasonable hub bearing response and performance needs of the anticipated end user of a commercial vehicle to be used in the Bus, Medi

27、um, Severe Service, Regional, and Line Haul applications, with a 350,000; 350,000; 350,000; 750,000; and 1,200,000 miles; or 15, 10, 10, 10, 10 year life, respectively. These end user needs are based on vehicle conditions and wheel-end bearing response that supplier or NAVISTAR could reasonably anti

28、cipate at the time the design specification is finally approved. The supplier is required to provide a design and validation of such design that will meet these applications. Navistar Engineering will review supplier designs and DVP TMS-1065, Type 2; or TMS 1065, Type 1 or Type 2. 9.0 APPROVED SUPPL
