Reference: File 30-11B Keywords: Exterior Plastic Film Application 1.0 APPLICATION This standard outlines the procedure for applyin

5、g decorative pressure sensitive films to painted exterior body sections such as fenders, doors, quarter panels and tailgates. The material specification for the plastic film, TMS-7107 or CEMS G-7, types will be specified on the engineering drawing for the part or assembly. The application of these f

6、ilms shall be made after the body section has been completely painted, inspected and approved for delivery to the trim line. Application areas shall be specified on engineering drawings. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the procedure for applying the film, including surface preparation, applicati

7、on method, inspection and process quality control. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the la

8、test issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following standards, specifications and regulations are referenced in this specification. 9、TMS-7107 NAVISTAR Eng. Design Std. A-16 NAVISTAR TMS-9543 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Surface Preparation 4.1.1 Sanding of Paint Wet sand with #360 paper. All metal and/or paint nibs are removed during the sanding operation. Such defects will telescope through the vinyl film. NUMBER: TMS-9503 TITLE: Exteri

11、2 Cleaning The body surface to which the decorative film will be bonded must be free of grease, oil and other foreign material. Wipe with clean cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol. 4.2 Application 4.2.1 Temperature The film is most easily handled when air and application surface temperatures are betwe

12、en 21-32C (70-90F). For applications below 21C (70F), use heat lamps, a jet of steam, or a heat gun to warm the surfaces to which the film is to be applied as well as the film itself. 4.2.2 Wetting Solution Thoroughly mix two to three level teaspoons of detergent (American Cyanamid Aerosol OT 75% AQ

13、) per one gallon of clean, warm 32-35C (90-95F) water. NEVER USE SOAP OR HARSH DETERGENTS. The mixing container should be stainless steel or plastic. 4.2.3 Wetting of the Body and Decorative Film Adhesive Surfaces Thoroughly wet the application surfaces of the body and the adhesive surface of the de

14、corative film with the wetting solution. This can be accomplished with a sponge saturated with wetting solution or any other suitable method of application (such as immersing the film without paper backing). 4.2.4 Removal of Backing Bend a corner of the film toward the DECORATIVE FACE side to separa

15、te from the film. Lay the film on a clean, warm, flat surface BACKING SIDE UP. Hold the film firmly to the surface and remove the backing with a smooth 180 peeling motion. IT IS MANDATORY TO REMOVE THE BACKING FROM THE FILM - NEVER THE FILM FROM THE BACKING, AS POSSIBLE FILM STRETCHING OR BREAKING M

16、AY RESULT. Note: Under hot, humid conditions, a slight jerking motion will aid in removing the backing. 4.2.5 Apply Wet Decorative Film to Body Surfaces Immediately apply the wetted decorative film to the panel. Center the decorative film, smoothing out all ripples with the hand in the area to be co

17、vered. Apply the wetting solution to the outer surface of the film. 4.2.6 Pressurize and Level Off 4.2.6.1 Flat Surfaces Using a plastic squeegee, pressurize all of the flat surfaces with firm, overlapping strokes to remove all air bubbles, water and wrinkles. On vertical surfaces pressurize and lev

18、el off the entire top edge first with a 75 x 100 mm (3 x 4 in) squeegee and then work from top to bottom using a 20 cm (8 in) squeegee, with firm overlapping strokes. On horizontal surfaces, start at the center and work toward the edges, using a 75 x 100 mm (3 x 4 in) squeegee. DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE

19、 TO EDGES THAT WILL BE WRAPPED AROUND THE DOORS, FENDERS OR GAS CAP AREAS, OR TO COMPOUND CURVE AREAS. 21、th a lint free cloth, dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Allow the isopropyl alcohol to evaporate. IT IS EXTREMELY CRITICAL THAT THIS AREA BE CLEAN. (b) Warm the unapplied film by passing steam or a heat gun over the surface. (c) Wrap the film around the flange area and press it firmly into position.

22、AVOID TRAPPING AIR WHEN TURNING THE EDGE. (d) Pressurize the flange area and door edge with 75 x 100 mm (3 x 4 in) squeegee. 4.2.6.3 Contoured Areas (a) Warm the unapplied film by passing steam or heat gun over the surface, working on an area no more than 12.7 mm (1/2 in) larger than the squeegee. (

23、b) Using the 75 x 100 mm (3 x 4 in) plastic squeegee, pressurize and level off this small warmed area. (c) Repeat the warming and pressurizing until the entire contoured surface is completely adhered and free of air, water and wrinkles. (d) Trim all excess material. CAUTION: If a knife is used for t

24、rimming, a back-up template must be used under the film to prevent damage to the painted areas. 4.3 Inspection It is mandatory that each area, upon completion of that area, be inspected for blisters due to trapped air or water. All blisters shall be worked out with the squeegee, or punctured with a

25、sharp needle or pin (not a knife) and then pressurized until the film adheres to the body surface. In addition, the entire film, especially the edges, must be checked for adherence. 4.4 Process Control Each step and detail in the procedure is significant to achieve satisfactory adhesion and appearan

26、ce in the shortest time. Accordingly, revisions to or deviations from this specification without prior test and approval by the Navistar Truck Development and Technology Center is not recommended. 5.0 QUALITY All product supplied shall be clean and free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmf

27、ul to product performance. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (P

28、roduction Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request. 30、d against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing

31、practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center, and Navistar Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this

32、specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and/or report results of tests on specific lots of parts p

33、roduced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the usi
