This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers the performancerequirements of a synthetic base hydrocarbon grease thickened with a li
3、thiumcomplex soap that is intended for application as a lubricant for sealedbearings used in electric motors on Navy ships and submarines. It is notintended to be an extreme pressure grease or a general application lubricant.2. CLASSIFICATION. None.3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.3.1 Material. The grease
4、 covered by this CID shall consist of a syntheticbase fluid (wax free) combined with a lithium complex soap thickener andformulated with additives to meet the requirements as specified herein.3.2 Toxicity. The grease shall have no adverse effect on the health ofpersonnel when used for its intended p
5、urpose. The grease shall contain nocomponents that produce noxious vapors in such concentrations as to be anirritant to personnel during formulation or use under conditions of adequateventilation. The product label shall caution users to avoid prolonged contactwith the skin. The product shall have b
6、een reviewed by Navy EnvironmentalHealth Center to assess its potential health hazard.3.3 Workmanship. The grease, when examined visually, shall be a smoothhomogeneous mixture, free of lumps and abrasive material. The grease shallspread uniformly and appear homogeneous when worked with the straight
7、edge ofa spatula on a glass surface.3.4 Property requirements. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.4.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contr
13、actor is encouraged to userecovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance withparagraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).4.2 Hazardous substance. The grease shall conform to the requirements of theFederal Hazardous Substance Act (16 CFR 1500.121).4.3 Off-gassin
14、g. The grease shall qualify for limited use under theprovisions of Chapter 7 of the Submarine Atmosphere Control Manual, NAVSEAS9510-AB-ATM-010/(U).5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS.5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salientcharacteristics of this commercial item descripti
15、on, conform to the producersown drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, andbe the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The governmentreserves the right to require proof of such conformance.5.2. Market acceptability. The company must demonstrate throug
16、h laboratorytesting that the product will exhibit the salient properties of thiscommercial item description.6. PACKAGING.6.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. Preservation, packing, and markingshall be as specified in the contract or order.7. NOTES.7.1 Ordering data. Purchaser shall specify the fo

The contracting officer shall identify inthe purchasing document those activities that shall be provided materialsafety data sheets prepared in accordance with FED-STD-313.7.3

Products manufactured to inch-pound dimensions will beconsidered on an equal basis with those manufactured using metric units,provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tablescontained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376 and all other requirements ofthis Commercia
