Nothing in this specification, however,shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption ha

27、sbeen obtained.3, REQUIREMENTS3,1 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, asample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.3 and 6.3).3.2 Material. Cast iron shall not be used in any part of the boiler or inany part of the boiler auxiliaries. Nodular iron confor

28、ming to MIL-I-24137 maybe used in such parts of the boiler auxiliaries where no other substitute forcast iron is practicable.3.2.1 Class I - carbon steel construction. Except as otherwise specifiedherein, material used in construction of class I boilers shall conform to theASME Boiler and Pressure V

29、essel Code. Material for tubes shall be equal to orbetter than SA-178, grade C. Material for shell and tube sheets shall be” equalto or better than ASME material SA-285, grade C, firebox quality, with respect tomaximum allowable stress taken at 500 degrees Fahrenheit (eF) and weldability.3.2.2 Class

30、 II - nonmametic construction. Boilers specified herein are tobe installed on ships whose magnetic signature must be extremely low. Therefore,great importance is attached to use of nonmagnetic materials wherever possiblewithout involving extensive development or affecting the design characteristics.

31、Unless otherwise specified herein, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code shallapply.3.2.2.1 Nonmametic materials. Components used in boiler assembly, otherthan the boiler shell assembly, and pressure vessel parts (for example, handholeplates, pipe and nipples attached to boiler shell) shall be ma

32、nufactured fromnonmagnetic materials. Except as otherwise specified herein, material used inthe construction of equipment shall be considered nonmagnetic if it has apermeability of less than 1.08 before fabrication and not greater than 2.0 afterfabrication.3.2.2.2 Carbon steel. Boiler shell assembly

34、 of electrical equipment shall be fabricated ofnonmagnetic material, except for the following parts:(1) Parts required in the magnetic circuit of the particularitem of equipment.(2) Structural parts of motors, rotary converters, contractors,relays, thermostats, and pressure switches that wouldentail

35、 extensive modification and redesign to permitsubstitution of nonmagnetic material.(b) Electric controllers, solenoids, and switches shall haveenclosures and panels of nonmagnetic metals.(c) Stray magnetic fields causedby electrical circuits shall be keptto a minimum by making the area of electric c

36、urrent loops assmall as possible and arranging adjacent loops so that the fieldswill be in opposition. Current loops shall enclose no magneticmaterial unless essential for proper performance of equipment.(d) In alternating current (at) motors, all connections between statorwinding connections shall

37、be made as short as possible. Thepower leads to the stator winding shall be run through the sameopening in the motor frame.3.3 Construction. Except as otherwise specified herein, the boiler shallbe constructed in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.3.3.1 General confimration. Th

38、e boiler shall be fuel fired horizontalstraight fire tube type of the 2 or 4 pass design. The boiler shall be eitherright or left hand as specified (see 6.2.1). The hand of the boiler shall bedetermined by the position of the control panel box when facing the firing end ofthe boiler.3.3.2 Desire and

43、 oeration. Method of operation shall be as specified in3.3.6.1 through 3.3.6.3.2.3.3.6.1 Imition. Boilers shall be equipped for electric spark ignition,automatic or manual, as applicable.3.3.6.2 Feedwater rewlation. Boilers shall be equipped for automaticfeedwater regulation (see 3.6.2).3.3.6.3 Burn

44、er oDeration.3.3.6.3.1 Boiler sizes 1 and 2. Boilers, sizes 1 and 2, shall beequipped for automatic ON and OFF type of burner operation.3.3.6.3.2 Boiler sizes 3 throuh 7. Boilers, sizes 3 through 7, shall beequipped for one of the following methods of burner operation, as specified(see 6.2.1):(a) Ma

45、nual operation - A unit manually operated through turndownrange and manually restarted following shutdown.(b) Automatic operation - A unit that will automatically modulatethrough turndown range with an automatic restart featurefollowing shutdown.7IIProvided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or net

The unit must be manually restarted followingshutdown.3.3.7 Boiler internals. The boiler shall be equipped with

47、 the followinginternal fittings:(a) Dry pipe.(b) Surface blowpipe.(c) Feed pipe.(d) Baffle plates, as required.3.3.8 Water aues. Water gauges, separately mounted, with valves shall belocated on the front end of the boiler as close to the vertical center line ofthe boiler as is practicable. They shal

48、l be the reflex type with 10-inch minimumvisible range. The center of the gauge glass shall correspond to the normalwater level of the boiler.3.3.9 Valves. Each valve, including the safety valves, shall conform tothe requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, except for class Iboilers

49、 the safety valves shall be cast or forged steel and all other valvesshall be bronze or cast or forged steel; for class II boilers, all valves shalluse nonmagnetic material.3.3.1O Surface blow valve. The surface blow valve shall be located so theoperator can observe the water level in the water gauge while operating thevalve.3.3.11 Safetv valve hand easin gear. If the safe
