4、ein contained pertaining to coated nylon shall apply 3.1.1 Drawings for record. Drawings prepared by the contractor, when required for record, shall be furnished in accordance with O. P. 400 and OSTD 599. 3.2 Sample covers, When a sample cover is supplied in lieu of draw- ings, this specification sh

5、all take precedence wherever there is a difference between the sample cover and the specification. The sample cover is supplied only for information and guidance. 3.3 Material. ing to apecification MIL-C-20696, Type II, Class 3, The covers shall be manufactured of material conform- 3.4-Thread and stitching. substitution of thread shall be m

Stitching shall be in accordance with Spec- ification DDD-s-751, Type 3Ol or 401. There shall be not less than 44 nor more than 5.2 stitches per inch. Machine needles larg

8、er than No. 22 shall not be used. Only lock stitching will be permitted; a chain stibch is not acceptable. When skipped or broken stitches occur, the stitches must be reinforced by parallel stitching for at least 2.0 inches on each side of the skipped or broken stitches. 3.5 Chafi-atches. All chafin

9、g patches shall be sewed to the in- side of the cover. These patches shall be a double layer of the base cloth, Thread shall be No. 16 dacron thread. No 3.6 Air vents. Air vents shall be provided on covers if cover size or shape is such that air circulation is deemed insufficient to pre- vent conden

10、sation. Air vents shall be-so constriicted as not to af- fect the watertightness of the cover. 3.7 Lashine; and lacine;. Lashings and lacings, as shown on the draw- ing (or sample cover if drawings are not available), shall be fur- nished by the contractor, and shall be braided sash-cord conforming

The color to be the same on both sides of base cloth. 3.14 Coatinq-thickness. If coating thickness is not the same on each side of base c

18、loth, the side with the heavier coating shall be on the inside of the cover. The color shall be ocean gray, conforming to No. 26176 3.15 Markiras. less than one inch high with the markings as shown on the drawings or sample cover. 3.16 Dimensions. No dimensions of the finished cover shall be less th

19、an that on the drawings or sample cover. All details of manufacture shall be in accordanoe with first-cl

22、ass commercial practice covering this type of work. Covers shall be free from defects or blemishes affecting their ap- pearance or serviceability. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Sam ling and inspection. Coated nylon covers shall be inspected by tdaval Inspector to determine compliance with the

23、drawings 01“ samples and the requirements of this specification. One sample pro- duction cover shall be submitted to the activity contracting for the covers, or as directed in the contract, for inspection of material, details, workmanship, etc., so that it can be tried for fit on the equipment for w

24、hich intended. 4.2 Tests. 4.2.1 Pre-manufacture tests . Prior to manufacture of covers, the coated nylon cloth shaIIrhave passed the tests called for in Speci- fication MIL-C-20696. 4.2.2 Acceptance tests. The inspector shall request that covers be sample tested for strength and water tightness of s

25、eams, The number of each lot to be tested shall be determined by the inspector up to lo test if deemed necessary. 4.2.2.1 Watertightness test. Shape a pooket in the cover with the seam at the bottom. Fill- pocket with not less than one quart of water at ambient temperature and keep seam under water

26、for one hour. 4.2.2.1.1 Leakage through the seam shall be cause for rejection. 4.2.2.2 Strength test. The contractor shall submit sample seams, not less than two feet long, of each lot of thread used in the manufac- ture of the covers. The inspector shall ascertain that the sample seam is capable of

27、 withstanding at least a one hundred pound pull. 4.2.2.2.1 Failure of the seam at less than one hundred pound pull shall be cause for rejection+ 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Preservation and packagins. 5.1.1 Level A 5.1.1.1 Cleanin . Cleaning, if required, shall be accomplished by 5 wiping with -
