As soon as practicable after award of contract or order, and prior to submission of any complete item for acceptance, the contractor sha

The first article,if approved, may be included in the quantity to be shipped in the final shipment. *3.2 Materials. -Mate
11、rials not specif.ied herein, or on applicable documents, shall be selected in such a manner to assure strict compliance with all requirements of tkis specification. Contact between dissimilar metals shall be avoided. Where it is necessary that dissimilar metals be assembled in intimate contact with
12、each other, posing insulating or mutually compatible material shall be used. Any changes or an inter- Dissimilar metals are defined in MS33586. *3.3 Desiqn and construction. The steam cleaner, transport mounted as specified in 3.8,shall consist of a gasoline engine, reciprocating pump, fuel system,
13、vapor uenerating system, tanks, regulators, and otb,er devices s shown n Figure 1. units shall be interchangeable and shall assemble with mating components of the unit without selection or fitting. If, during assembly of the fabricated parts of a unit, selection or fitting is required and changes in
14、 parts are necessary, no changes shall be made in these parts without prior approval of the procuring activity. H28, and the NOT-GO gaging practice shall be as specified therein, *3.3.1 Interchanaeabilitv. Component parts of assembled *3.3.2 Threads. All threads shall be in accordance with *3.3 . 3
15、Fasteninu devices. All screws, pins, bolts, and similar parts shall be installed with means for preventing loss of proper tightness and adjustment. All such parts, when subject to removal or adjustment, shall not be swaged, peened, staked, or otherwise permanently deformed. *3.3.4 Standard parts, Mi
16、litary standard parts shall be used where applicable. parts are not available, commercial hardware parts such as screws, nuts, bolts, etc., may be used provided they conform to the requirements of this specification. All castings and forgings shall be of uniform quality, free from blow holes, porosity, hard spots, shrinkage defects, cracks, and other defects that may affect structural strength. Strength and other essential physical and che
18、mical properties of the castings and forgings shall be adequate to withstand, without damage, the performance requirements specified herein. and soldering shall be performed in accordance with best commercial practice. *3.3.6 Weldinq, brazinq and solderinq, Welding, brazing, “3.3.4 Lubrication. All
19、bearings (except sealed-for-life- type) shall be provided with means for lubrication. *3.3.8 Transport mountinq. *3.3.8:1 Trailer The trailer assembly furnished with the steam cleaner shall be inherently strong, durable, and capable of withstanding the conditions which will be met during towing over
20、 hard surface roads and in rough terrain environment. The trailer assembly, to which the steam cleaner shall be rigidly attached, shall be furnished with fenders, a tarpaulin rack, tarpaulins using cloth conforming to CCC-C-428, a hinged removable hood, and a metal tool box measuring 6 inches by 7 i
21、nches by 16 inches with hasp. A lunette and bracket assembly conforming to Drawing No. 10924561, a trailer hitch safety chain assembly conforming to Drawing No. 7328317, and a support leg conforming to Drawing No. 7343007 shall be utilized on the trailer supplier under this specification (see Figure
22、 2). *3.3.8.7.1 Liftinq fixtures. Each trailer shall have lifting fixtures conforming to Drawing Nos. 5044 and 5045 installed during production. “3.3.8.2 _ Axle _ and suspension system. The axle and suspen- sion system shallcn2st of a 1-ton capacity, torsion spring axle, installed as shown on Figure

The trailer shall be equipped with 7:OO by 16-6 ply country tires conforming to tire inner tubes conforming to MS35392-8. nondirectional cross MS35388-9 and pneumatic *3.3.9 Gasoline ermine. The gasoline engine furni
25、shed with the steam cleaner shall be of the air-cooled, one- cylinder, 4-cycle type conforming to group I of MIL-E-11275, and shall furnish power to drive the pump, magneto, and blower fan. The engine shall be equipped with a clutch designed to operate by centrifugal forces acting on entrapped pocke
26、ts of mercury, which disengages when the engine idles (see Figure 1) . equipped with a reciprocating piston-type, positive dis- placement pump. This pump shall consist of two pistons which move with lateral motion transmitted by an eccentric crank, attached to a Vtt belt driven pully. One of the pis
27、tons shall be designed to pump water, or water and solution at a rate of 120 L6 gallons per hour (gph) against a zero lift and 85 55 gph at 16-foot lift (see 4.5.2.2). 31、ion (see Figure i) . “3.3.14 Maqneto. The vapor generation fuel system shall perform as follows: fuel shall flow from the fuel
32、 tank through lines to the pump and metering valve and then through fuel lines and a fuel cushion hose,.designed to absorb-pump pulsations, to a pressure-atomizing burner. In an updraft combustion chamber, the atomized fuel shall mix with forced air from the motor-driven blower fan and be ignited by
33、 the electric spark. The fuel system shall be capable of burning either kerosene or fuel oils from 30 to 38 American Petroleum Institute gravity (see Figure 1) . *3.3.15.1 Vapor qeneration fuel tank. The fuel tank shall have a capacity capable of sustaining a minimum of 3 hours continuous operation,
34、 under maximum heat load. An outlet to provide a sump for the collection of water, sludge, etc. shall be installed 2 inches above the bottom of the,tank. outlet side. The tank shall be sealed to prevent possible seepage or splashing of other liquids that might contaminate the fuel in the tank. A fue
35、l strainer shall be located on the *3.3.15.2 Fuel-metering and by-pass orifice. Since it is probable that the capacity of the fuel pump will be approximately 10 times that of the burner tip, fuel must be by-passed at all times. This shall be accomplished as follows: as fuel leaves the fuel check val
36、ve, it shall be divided into two streams, one of which shall pass through an anti-siphon check valve and a fuel metering valve (see 3.15.3) . The other stream shall pass through a fuel-by-pass orifice elbow, back to the fuel tank (see Figure 1) . which allows positive control of the heating coil, sh
37、all be calibrated proportionately from zero to 7, with 7 being the maximum setting. Fuel flow through this valve shall be adjustable from zero to approximately 4 gph. “3.3.15.3 Fuel meterinq valve. The fuel metering valve, “3.3.16 Vapor qeneratinq system. Water and cleaning solution shall pass throu
38、gh the cleaner in the following manner: water shall enter the cleaner from an external source and pass through piping to a water system supply (see 3.3.17.1) selector valve. From the pump, water or water solution shall be pumped through a water alleviator hose, .designed to absorb pump pul
40、sations, past a drain and relief valve, and into the vapor generator, where it is brought to the required temperature and pressure. system shall be capable of withstanding a static pressure of 225 pounds per square inch gage (psig), which is one and one-half times the maximum working pressure of 150
41、 psig (see Figure 1) . a progressive type heater of the continuous tubular coil type, fabricated to withstand 1,000 pounds per square inch (psi) hydrostatic test, and shall contain no drums or extended pressure chambers. Provisions shall be made in the design of the cleaner to allow for deliming of
42、the coil or for its replacement if necessary (see Figure 1). The “3.3.16.1 Vapor qenerator. The vapor generator shall have 33.3.16.2 Coil drain and relief valve. A drain and relief _ valve shall be located at the inlet side of the coil. This valve shall be designed to drain the coil when opened manu
43、ally, and if in operation excessive pressure builds up in the system, to open and allow water or water and cleaning solution to escape (see Figure 1) . “3.3.16.3 Pressure control device. A pressure control device designed to function as described below shall be installed in line with the outlet side
44、 of the heating coil. A plunger on the device shall be designed to actuate when the pressure in the system reaches 150 psi. When this plunger is actuated, it shall operate a throttling device on the gasoline engine, idling the engine. When the engine idles, the mercury clutch shall disengage, stoppi
45、ng the reciprocating pump (see Figure 1, 3.3.9, and 4.5.6) . from O to 200 psi, shall be furnished and connected to the outlet side of the heating coil. Numerical readings shall be given at O, 50, 100, 150 and 200 pounds with marks for every 10 psi. The gage shall be properly dampened against vibrat
46、ion or fluctuation and shall accurately indicate the working pressure. The gage shall be of such quality as to be durable and dependable in service under continuous pulsating pressure conditions. “3.3-16.4 Pressure qaqe. The cleaning solution tank shall have a capacity capable of sustaining. a minimum of 4 hours of continuous operation at 22 to 25 percent of the full volume range of the cleaning solution metering valve. “3.3.16.
48、6 Cleaninq solution meterinq valve. The cleaner shall be equipped with a metering valve which will introduce a certain part of concentrated compound solution into the water lines. The metering valve shall be adjustable in capacity for a minimum range of zero to 12 gph at any selected ratio of concen
49、trated compound to water. When adjusted to the desired metering rate, the valve shall maintain a constant delivery to within 25 percent at any and all tank level conditions. *3.3.17 Water supply system. The cleaner shall be equipped to secure water from the following sources: (a) Tap pressure system from a minimum pressure range of 25 psi to 125 psi. (b) Suction line or vacuum pickup from well, stream, lake, or other outside source of water. 513.3.17.1 Water supply selector valve.
