2、the Department of Defense.1. SCOPE1.1 *. This specification covers the general requirements for design andestablishes uniform methods for testing cartridge actuated devices, (CADS). Guns,rockets, rocket catapults, ballistic hose/tubing, and stores separation equipmentare not covered by this specific

For purposes of this specification, theterm cartridge actuated device includes any device which provides the means ofreleasing potential cartridge energy or harnessing this energy to accomplishwork. Linear shaped charge, explosive energy transfer lines, and “sealed-in”cartridge actuated devic

4、es (see 6.4.1) fall within the scope of MIL-O-21625.However, devices of the “sealed-in” type are also required to meet the safety andstructural design requirements of this specification as specified In 3.6.3. Thepurpose of the testing program is to determine performance, safety, soundness ofmechanic

5、al design, and resistance to environments encountered during storage,handling, and service use. Cartridge actuated devices are safe for handling anddo not deteriorate to a degree which wouid render their performance or safetydoubtful after being subjected to the testing programs of this specificatio

6、n.1.2 Classification of the types of cartridqe actuated device release.Type ISafety of handling and installation. This type of release is requiredprior to handling and installation of CADS in naval equipment. For requirements,see 3.17.1.Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and

9、ice release. This release is required prior to anyflights or use of CADS involving naval personnel and will be granted inaccordance with the provisions of 3,17.2. The Naval Air Systems Command hasthe prerogative to authorize procurement of CADS for fleet use, subsequent toa Type II release.Type 111

10、AFinal release to service (fully documented). This type of release1s required for admission of CADs into the Naval supply system as a fullydocumented device (see 3.9). For requirements, see 3.17.2Type III BSpecial release to service (documented by a source controldrawing). If the data required for a

11、 Type III A release are not available,such as proprietary rights and patents, then a Type 111 B release to serviceis required for admission of CADS into the Naval supply system. 30、615. MIL-D-23615 is astreamlined document.3. REQUIRE14ENTS3.1 Selection of speclflcatlons and standards. Specifications andstandards for necessary commodities and services not specified herein shallbe selected in accordance with MIL-STD-970.3.2 Special requirements. Special requirements for specific

31、amlications shall take Precedence over those listed herein, provided suchspkclal requirements are”more stringent. Other conflicting-requirements aresubject to the approval of the cognizant design agency (see 6.4.3) for thespecific application invoived.3.3 Materials. Materials for the CAD shall be co

32、mpatible with theexplosive, propellant, delay composition, pyrotechnic, combustion products,and buffering fluid (if used); and shall withstand environmental, functional,service, and storage conditions to which the CAD will be exposed. Acceptanceor approval of materials for design or use during the c

33、ourse of manufactureshall in no case be construed as a guarantee of acceptance of the finisheddevice. Pyrocellulose materials shall not be included as wads, spacers, orclosure discs. Materials which are nutrients for fungi shall not be used.3.3.1 m. Exposed metals shall be of the corrosion-resisting

34、 typeor suttably treated to resist the corrosive effects of fuels, salt spray oratnsosphertcconditions to which the CAD may be subjected in storage or normalservice use.3.3.1.1” Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used inIntimate contact with each other unless protected against electro

35、lyticcorrosion. Dissimilar metals are defined in MIL-STD-889.3.3.2 Plastic parts. The use of plastic parts shall be subject to theapproval of the cognizant design agency for the specific application involved.3.4 Finishes. Protective coatfngs and finishes shall be used which willnot crack, chip, or s

36、cale during normal service life or when subjected toenvironmental conditions specified herein. Surface treatments, coatings, andfinishes shall conform to MIL-S-5002 except that aluminum and aluminum alloyparts shall be anodized In accordance with 3.4.1.3.4.1 Anodizinq. Aluminum and aluminum alloy pa

37、rts subject to wear,abrasion, and erosion or exposed to corrosive environmental elements shall beanodized in accordance with MIL-A-8625, Types II or III. Chemical conversioncoatings conforming to MIL-C-5541 may be used to repair mechanically damagedareas from which the anodic coating has been remove

38、d.3.5 Color coding. The CAO shall be of the simplest and mosteffictent desiqn

39、 consistent with the m_oDosed use. SDecific considerationshall be given-to the factors of minlrnum”size and weight, resistance todeleterious environments, reliability of performance, maintainability (see3.6.2), and safety of operation. All CADS, including the ballistic energysource, such as cartridg

40、es and explosive energy transfer lines, submitted foror subjected to the requirements of 3.16 shall be of final designconfiguration, identical in design, manufactured by the same process andshall be from the same lot. Prior to manufacturing CADS for service releasetesting, a critical design review s

41、hall be conducted per MIL-STD-1521 (see6.3).3.6.1 Ballistic energy. Prior to service release, the cartridge(s) forthe CAO shall have met the release requirements of MIL-O-21625.3.6.2 Disassembly and reassembly. Unless otherwise approved by thecognizant design agency, the CAD shall be designed so tha

42、t it can bedisassembled for inspection or installation of the cartridge(s), O rings, andassociated subassemblies and reassembled. Disassembly and reassembly of thedevice shall be accomplished by the use of standard tools.3.6.3 “Sealed-in” type of cartridqe actuated device. “Sealed-in” typeof cartrid

43、ge actuated devices (see 6.4.1) shall meet the design,environmental and functional requirements of MIL-D-21625 and the firingmechanism, shear pin, dust, submersion, iced condition and structuralintegrity requirements of this specification.3.6.4 Service life. C4DS, when packaged in hermetically seale

44、dcontainers, shall have a service life of not less than 5 years from the dateof manufacture, and shall be capable of being rendered serviceable after thisperiod by replacement of cartridges, O rings, shear pins, and similar items.Service life assignments must be approved by the Naval Air Systems Com

45、mandprior to application in service.3.6.5 Structural inteqrity. CADS shall be designed ulth a minimumsafety factor of 1.5 at the most critical temperature extreme based on themaximum calculated operating pressure limit in the most severe operatingcondition.3.6.5.1 Locked shut firing. Each CAO shall

46、be designed to withstand theinternal ballistic gas pressure developed during a locked shut condition (see6.4.4) over the temperature range -650F to 2000F. There shall be nomechanical failure or rupture.3.6.5.2 No load firing. For a stroking CAO which is designed to remainintact at the end of a power

47、 stroke, parts shall not separate when it isfired at any temperature between -650F and 2000F with no restraining loadapplied to the CAO; e.g., the piston shall not separate from the CAD at theend of stroke nor shall fragmentation of components occur.3.6.6 Locking of parts. All parts not required to

48、have relative motionprior to or during cartridge/ballistic energy source initiation shall besecurely locked by a method that will not damage components or interfere withease of disassembly. Safety wiring is the preferred method. Lock nuts shallnot be used except where it is impossible to use the pre

The force required to actuatemechanical firing mechanisms shall be 15 pounds minimum and 35 poundsmaximum. Precocked firing mechanisms shall not be used (see 6.4.2).3.6.7.1 Safety pins. Mechanical firing mechanisms shall be restrainedby single ac
