This type of delay composition shall be of three classes depending upon the burning time ranges, as follows: Class I 2.5 to 7.5 sec/i

16、n shall take precedence. - 3 o REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Description. The tungsten-fluorocarbon copolymer delay compositions shall be homogeneous mixtures of tungsten, barium chromate, potassium perchlorate, diatomaceous earth, and a fluorocarbon copolymer. 3.2 Materials. The materials used in the manufactur

17、e of the tungsten fluoro- carbon copolymer delay composition shall conform to the following: 3-2.1 Tungsten. The tungsten shall conform to AS 2686, Type II. These tungsten particle size ranges are considered most useful for the given burning time series. With proper adjustment of composition tungste

19、 I 3.2.2 Barium chromate. The barium chromate shall conform to MIL-B-550, Grade A. 3.2.3 Potassium perchlorate. The potassium perchlorate shall conform to MIL-P-217, grade A, class 3. 3.2.4 Diatomaceous earth. The diatomaceous earth shall conform to OS 8990. 3.2.5 Flowocarbon copolymer. The vinylide

20、ne difluoride and hexafluoropropylene copolymer shall. conform to WS 7682. 3.2.6 Acetone. The acetone solvent shall conform to O-A-51. 3.2.7 Hexane, The hexane non-solvent shall conform to WS-7692. 3.3 Formulation. The material components of the tungsten fluorocarbon copolymer delay composition shal

21、l be homogeneously mixed. follows : Advisory formulation shall be as Ingredient Percentage ranges Nominal percentages Tungsten 25 - 75% Barium chromate 12 - 62% (As required) Potassium perchlorate Diatomaceous Fluorocarbon copolymer 7% 5% 1% In order to meet the specific burning tzme characreristics

22、 required, the percentage composition by weight of tungsten can be determined by pilot mixture (see 6.3.6) Figure 1 shows the effect of percentage tungsten on burning time. which conforms to the performance requirements of 3.4, 3.5, and 3.6 shall be considered in compliance with the formulation requ

23、irements. The composition 3.4 Burning time at 24 2 4OC. The burning time of the tungsten-fluorocarbon copolymer delay composition shall conform to the basic time and tolerance specified (see 6.2.1). composition is an average value ascertained under the provisions of 4.3.2. percent coefficient of var

There shall be no delay failures at room temperature or at the low temperature specified above

27、 ignition powder ignites butthe delay column does not burn through. .performance of 4.3.2 and 4.3.3 tests with no delay failures shall constitute conformance to this requirement. A delay failure shall be a condition where Satisfactory 3.7 Moisture content. The moisture content of the delay composit

28、ion shall not exceed.0.05 percent maximum when tested in accordance with 4.3.4. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspec- tion requirements as speci

29、fied herein. or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Goverment. the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ass

30、ure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. Except as otherwise specified in the contract The Government reserves the right to perform any of 4.1.1 - Lot. A lot of tungsten-fluorocarbon copolymer-delay composition shall consist either of a manufacturers batch which has been mixed a

31、s a unit from the ingredients or a blend of one or more such batches offered for acceptance at one time. 4.1.2 Sampling, Sampling of the tungsten-fluorocarbon copolymer delay composi- tions for test purposes shall be performed following the last mixing operation and screening of the dried powder. 20

A second representative pooled sample of the delay composition is selected of a sufficient quantity tc load a minimum of 10 test eleme

33、nts according to 4.3.2.1 for the low-temperature functioning test (4.3-3). or loading in delay assemblies shall be carried out in areas having a relative humidity below 60 percent. The samples shall be stored in hermetically sealed containers and correctly labeled to show the following information:

Unless otherwise specified, all chemicals shall be ACS grade in accordance with MIL-STD-1218 and distilled water shall be

44、res are not specified for acceptance of the powder, the following procedure shall be followed: The testadapters shall be conditioned continuously for at least 2 hours at the required temperature before firing, 4OC. 4.3.2.3 Procedure for operating test apparatus. It is recommended that AD 1014 -C-L-.

45、 be used for operating instructions of the test apparatus. 4.3.2.4 Compute the burning time which is the average (X) of the time observations obtained in 4.3.2.2. The symbols and the method of computation shall be in accordance with Appendix A. Compute the percent coefficient of variation by di

46、viding (100) times (SI by X. Disposition of the lot shall be governed by 3.4 and 3.6. Where lot rejection is on the basis of the percent coefficient of variation, or 3.6, the lot may be remixed and resubmitted for acceptance under all provisions of 4.3. Computation of burning time and percent coeffi

47、cient of variation. Compute the standard deviation (S) of the time observations. 1- - - 4.3.2.5 Testing after shipment or prolonged storape. After the tungsten-fluo- rocarbon copolymer delay composition has been projerly mixed, it is possible for the fuel and oxidants to segregate under conditions o

48、f storage and transportation. Segregation appears to occur near the surface when a delay composition is subjected to prolonged agitation, particularly during shipment by rail. The surface layer is then nonhomogeneous andnot representative of the composition of the lot. shipment of a lot of the delay

49、 composition or after storage of. the lot for longer in 4.3.2. If the lot fails to meet the requirements of 3.4 then the lat shall be remixed to restore uniformity prior to test and use. of 4.3.2 shall be followed tc ensure representative sampling of the lot.
