REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material. - The material shall be as hereinafter specified. 6 - Direct reversing type Diesel engines, including accessories, 2 - Sets of reduction gears, including attached lubricating oil

15、ke horsepower (b. h. p.) continuous duty, direct-reversing type Diesel propulsion units, with a rated speed in the range of 750 to 1000 revolutions per minute (r.p.m.). 3.2.1.2 The arrangement of engines for each reduction gear shall be two engines forward and one engine aft. The after engine shall

16、be connected to the outboard pinion. 3.2.1.3 Weight and dimensions. - The overall weight of each engine, complete with a1 attached accessories, and controls, shall not exceed 45,000 pounds. The maximum dimensions shall not exceed the following, including clearance for removal of parts: Length overal

18、814B(SHIPS) 3.2.1.4 Shock and vibration. - Engine mounting supports and attachments for accessory equipment shall be designed to resist damage from shock accelerations, as shown on figure 1. in accordance with Specification MIL-1-17166. 3.2.1.5 Engine frames shall be of fabricated steel or ductile c

19、ast iron 3.2.1.6 The following accessories shall be supplied with each engine: Direction of rotation indicator Sea water pump Fresh water pump Lubricating oil pump Lube oil scavenging pump Lubricating oil strainer and filter Lubricating oil cooler Fuel oil filters Fuel oil booster pump Blower or sup

21、ating governor, overspeed governor, gages and therm ometers 3.2.1.6.1 All pumps shall be attached to and driven by the engine. All piping between attached accessories and the engine shall be furnished by the engine builder. Piping or wiring between the engine and detached accessories or controls sha

22、ll be furnished by the shipbuilder. 3.2.1.7 Operation. - The engines shall be capable of developing continuously, with a clear exhaust, .a minimum of 2400 b. h. p., at rated r. p. m. in the ahead direction of rotation, and 1700 b. h. p. in the astern direction of rotation with an ambient air tempera

23、ture of 100“ Fahrenheit (F.), an ambient barometric pressure of 29 inches Hg., absolute, and a back pressure of the exhaust trunk inlet of 1.5 pounds per square inch gage (p. s. i. g.). Temperature of sea water supplied to coolers shal not be less than 85F. 3.2.1.7.1 With the engine operating at rat

26、d 30 degrees to port or starboard. in addition, the engines shall be capable of operating satisfactorily when the vessel is rolling 45 degrees to either side. Compliance with this reqilirement shall be determined by checking the installation drawings. 3.2.1.8 Torsional vibration. - Provision shall b

27、e made on the free end of the crankshaft for.the attachment of a torsiograph drive. The mass elastic system o the engine, and other masses rotating with it,. shall have no dangerous peaks of torsional vibration within the operating range. The operating range is from the setting of the overspeed gove

28、rnor to 20 percent below the lowest operating speed of the engine. By dangerous peaks of torsional vibration is meant torsional vibratory stresses which are greater than the permissible vibratory stress, Sv, where, for steel shafts, sv = Tensile (ultimate) strength 25 and for cast iraon shafts, Tors

29、ional fatigue limit sv = 6 or critical speeds which are outside the operating range and are merely passed through, superimposed vibratory stresses shall not exceed 1-3/4 times the permissible Sv specified herein. 3.2.1.8.1 Mathematical analysis. - A complete maLhematica1 analysis shall be made of ea

30、ch shaft system for the following conditions: (A mathematical analysis will not be required provided a duplicate arrangement has been previously so calculated. ) (a) One engine per shaft. (b) Two engines per shaft. (c) Three engines per shaft. 3.2.1.8.1. i The fallowing pertinent information, to sho

31、w probable compliance with 3.2.1.8 and 3.2.1.8.1 shall be included. The location and values of maximum stresses occurring in the mass elastic systems, whether in the crankshaft, couplings, camshaft, gears or accessory drives, as well as shafting and rotating masses attached to the engine, shall be s

32、ubmitted to the bureau or agency concerned for approval. Approval of such mathematical analysis, however, shall not release the contractor from the responsibility of proving compliance with the above requirements by actually torsiographing one complete tinit. 6- . 34、stem. The complete calculations for the conditions specified in 3.2.1.8.1 will be checked by actd torsio- graph tests of the propelling machinery installed in the vessel. concerned, torsiograph records shall be made of the auxiliary drives to demonstrate freedom of the unit from dangerous vibration

35、in any of the branches. Torsiograph records of accessory drives will be required only when the mathematical analysis or observation of the engine operation indicates that the design is questionable. 3.2.1.8.2 Accessory drives. - At the discretion of the bureau or agency 3.2.1.9 Controls. - 3.2.1.9.1

36、 Each engine shall be provided with local controls for starting, stopping, reversing direction of rotation, and speed control. The controls shall be located at the free end, on the inboard side of each engine. An indicator shall be provided to show whether the engine is in the ahead or astern rotati

37、on position. 3.2.1.9.2 Remote controls. - Engine and electric coupling controls shall be furnished for shipbuilder mounting at a remote station, for each ProDulsion shaft set of three engines. Remote engine controls shallbe of a type-wfich will permit starting, stopping, reversing, and speed control

38、 of individual engines. After the selection of engines has been set up at the remote station, speed and reversing control of one, two or three engines shall be by means of asingle lever. Remote vernier adjustment shall be provided ?or each engine to permit close equalization of load between engines.

39、 A remote injector rack position indicator for each engine shall be provided to indicate load balance between engines. 3.2.1.9.3 Each engine shall be provided with a device for emergency shut down of the engine from a remote station outside of the engine room. The device shall be designed to cut off

40、 fuel or air to the engine. The device shall be capable of shutting down the engine in 1 minute after actuating the control. The connection at the engine for the remote control shall be suitable for connectingto flexible shafting, which will be furnished by the shipbuilder. 3.2.1.10 Pipe connections

41、. - All piping connections on the engine for connection to the shipbuilder furnished piping shall be provided with Navy standard pipe flanges or unions. Root connections shall be in one of the forms shown on Drawing B-214. Companion flanges shall be furnished for ship piping connections t0-e-e or ac

An oil p

43、an shall be provided with fanged connectionsfor gravity drains to the sump tank. The sump tanks for the engines will be furnished by the shipbuilder and installed Under the engines. For standardization purposes, the engines shall be provided with a drive and mounting boss for a lube oil scavenging p

44、ump. The scavenging pump drive shall be enclosed by a cover plate. A connection in the engine lubrication system shall be provided for supplying the necessary quantity of oil to the driving side of the electric coupling. 3.2.1.11.1 Lubricating oil filters and strainers. - The engine shall be equippe

45、d with metal edge strainer, approved by the bureau or agency concerned, and a lubricatincr oil filter. Filters shall be in accordance with Specifica- tions MIL-F-3623 and MIL-F-3690, eight element, bypass type. 3.2.1.11.2 Oil cooler. - An oil cooler, using fresh water as a cooling medium, and comply

46、ing with Specification MIL-C-15730, shall be furnished with each engine. Coolers may he either type A or B. Type A coolers shall be class 4. ( 3.2.1.12 C,ooling system. - The engine shall be provided with a heat exchanger for cooling the circulating water, using sea water as a cooling medium. The co

47、oler shall be in accordance with type A, class 1 of Specification MIL-(2-16730. . x, 3.2.1.12.1 Gaskets and packing used in the cooling system shall be of a type which will not deteriorate when ethylene glycol, in accordance with Specification MIL-C-878, is used in the system. i 3.2.1.12.2 The tempe

48、rature of the engine circulating water shall be controlled automatically by means of a thermostatic valve. The arrange- ment of the cooling water system shall be as shown on Drawing 5000-S4501-64492. 3.2.1.12.3 Water pumps. - Fresh and sea water pumps shall be of the centrifugai type. The sea water
