This specification covers the requirements for a 15-pound size, portable, permanent shutoff carbon dioxide (C02) fire extinguisher and sh
3、ock proof mounting bracket. 1.2 Classification. Fire extinguishers covered by this specification shall he of the following classes, as specified (see 6.2.1): Class 1 - Magnetic, alloy steel Class 2 - Non-magnetic, aluminum Class 3 - Non-magnetic, stainless steel 2. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein (except for associated detail specifications, specification sheets or MS standards
23、), the text of this speci- fication shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shall be sub
24、jected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and 6.3). 3.2 Standard DrOdUCt. Accessories and components furnished under this specification shall be in the same number of components and of the same quality as furnished commercially, except for deviations required to meet this specification. 3.3 Extinm
25、isher. The extinguisher shall be a stored-pressure type with a rated capacity of 15 pounds of C02, grade B, in accordance with BB-C-101. The extinguishers shall have a minimum fire extinguishing rating of 10 B:C in accordance with ANSIDL 711. The class 3 extinguishers shall be listed as marine type
26、by ANSIDL in accordance with ANSIDL 154. 3.3.1 Materials, Material shall be as specified herein and, when not specified, shall be of the same quality as furnished commercially. shall be free from any chemical or physical defect which might effect the reliability and serviceability of the finished pr
27、oducts. extinguishers- are specified (see 6.2.1), materials shall be such that the magnetic permeability of the extinguisher assembly and mounting bracket shall be not greater than 2.0. Material When class 2 or class 3 3.3.1.1 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equipment, ma
28、terial, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this specification shall be new and may be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been
29、 collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials interpreted to-mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unless otherwise specifically specified. The contracting activity shall be provided a material safety data sheet (MSDS) at the time of contract award. The MSDS is Form OSHA-20,
31、found in and part of FED-STD-313. The MSDS shall be included with each shipment of the material covered by this specification (see 6.6). 3.3.2 Finish. The extinguisher shall be finished with an enamel or powder paint protective coating for identification and enhanced corrosion resistance. The coatin
32、g shall be color no. 11105 red gloss in accordance with FED-STD-595. 3.3.3 Threads. Threads shall be in accordance with FED-STD-H28 and FED-STD-H28/2. 3.4 Weight. The weight of the fully charged extinguisher shall not exceed the following: Class 1 - 54 pounds Class 2 - 38 pounds Class 3 - 64 pounds
33、The weight of mounting bracket shall not exceed 15 pounds. 3.5 Extinguisher comDonents. The extinguisher shall contain the following major components : (a) Cylinder (see 3.5.1). (b) (c) (d) Nameplate band (see 3.5.4). (e) Mounting bracket (see 3.5.5). Discharge valve assembly (see 3.5.2). Discharge
34、hose and horn assembly (see 3.5.3). 3.5.1 Cylinder. 3.5.1.1 Cvlinder (for class 1). The cylinder for class 1 extinguisher shall be in accordance with RR-C-901 with the following dimensions: Outside diameter: - 6-9/16 i: 3/8 inches. Length : - 27 inches, maximum. Capacity: - 615 cubic inches, minimum
35、. Valve connection: - 1 - 11-1/2 MGT internal. 3.5.1.2 Cylinder (for class 2). shall be in accordance with CFR 49, 178.46. The cylinder for a class 2 extinguisher The cylinder shall be as follows: Material : - 6351-T6 or 6061-T6 (aluminum association Outside diameter: - 6-15/16 . Packing shall be le
36、vel A, B, C or commercial, as specified (see 6.2.1). 5.3.1 Level A. B and C containers. Fire extinguishers preserved as specified (see 5.2) shall be packed in shipping containers, for the level specified (see 6.2.1) in accordance with the exterior shipping container tables of MIL-STD-2073-1, appendi
37、x C and herein. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2.1), container selection shall be at the contractors option. 5.3.1.1 Caseiiners. closure, and gross weipht. 5.3.1.1.1 Caseliners. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2.1), level A shipping containers with fire extinguishers preserved level C or commer
38、cial shall be provided with waterproof caseliners in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1. 5.3.1.1.2 Closure. Container closure, reinforcing, or banding shall be in accordance with the applicable container specification or appendix thereto except that weather-resistant fiberboard boxes shall be closed in
39、accordance with method V and reinforced with non-metallic or tape banding and domestic fiberboard boxes shall be closed in accordance with method I using pressure sensitive tape. 5.3.1.1.3 Weight. Wood, plywood, and cleated type containers exceeding 200 pounds gross weight shall be modified by the a

Fire extinguishers preserved a
41、s specified (see 5.2) shall be packed for shipment in accordance with ASTM D 3951 and herein. 5.3.2.1 Container modification. Shipping containers exceeding 200 pounds gross weight shall be provided with a minimum of two, 3- by 4-inch nominal wood skids laid flat, or a skid- or sill-type base which w
42、ill support the material and facilitate handling by mechanical handling equipment during shipment, storage, and stowage. 5.4 Palletized unit loads. When specified (see 6.2.1), shipping containers shall be palletized in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1. 5.5 Marking. In addition to any special marking r
43、equired (see 6.2.1) and herein, interior (unit) packs, exterior shipping containers and palletized loads shall be marked for shipment, stowage and storage in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1 and apppendix F thereto, Marking shall include bar coding. 5.5.1 Caution tag. Unless otherwise specified (see 6
44、.2.1) the extin- guishers covered by this specification shall be shipped in a charged condition. If the fire extinguishers are specified to be uncharged when shipped, a caution tag shall be attached to each fire extinguisher prior to packaging in the unit container with the following information: “C
45、AUTION This fire extinguisher is not charged. Follow instructions on the extinguisher for charging.“ 6. NOTES 6.1 Intended use. Portable CO2 fire extinguishers are intended for use in locations where class B and class C fires are anticipated; that is, where there is a fire hazard involving oils, gre
46、ases, flammable volatile liquids, or ener- gized electrical equipment (the gas from CO2 extinguishers combats vaporphase combustion and is a nonconductor of electricity). 6.2 Ordering data. 6.2.1 Acauisition reauirements. Acquisition documents should specify the following: Title, number, and date of
47、 this specification. Class required (see 1.2 and 3.3.1). When first article inspection is required (see 3.1). When mounting brackets are not required (see 3.5.5). National stock number and contract number, if required When fire-retardant requirements are not required (see 5.1.1.1). Level of preserva
